Thought I’d add a photo of the current Olympic medal count.  Obviously just posting the top 10 here. China and the United States currently in that lead for total number of gold medals. Both also having quite a few “overall” medals.

It’s been a really fun summer Olympics so far. I do wish we’d have another great sprinter like Bolt to make track and field a bit more exciting, but..we may not have anyone challenging Bolts 100 and 200M records anytime even remotely soon.

Over it’s been fun!

China and the United States are always in first place, they really are a world power when it comes to Olympic sports. I would like to know how the medals of Russian athletes are doing, since they also always stand out when it comes to the Olympics, but for reasons of force majeure they cannot be counted in the official medal table.

Any information about this? How many medals have they won so far?

^^ It's not the feet but the torso that need to touch first, and so Noah Lyles was the first one to, and that separation is being compare to a blink of an eye.

Lyles - 9.784
Thompson - 9.789
Kerley - 9.81

As you can see in this overhead shot,

US finally ended Jamaican dominance in the 100m final thanks to the luck going Noah's way. He was actually lagging behind Thompson for most of the sprint until the ending part where he barely overtook him.

None of them were close to breaking Usain freaking Bolt's WR though. Also, it was great seeing Bobby Finke beat the WR and win gold in the 1500m men's freestyle.

Yeah, it was such a controversial race, I'm not really sure what the rules are, but it seems that the Jamaican feet was in the line head of Noah Lyles. But I guess the rule is the it should be the chest?

But yeah, no one can touch Bolt's record for a long time, he is a freak of nature. Although there are races that he might have lost to Tyson Gay, but during the Olympics, the Jamaicans are untouchables in the 100 meter.

Every year the interest in the Olympics decreases (and this particular Olympics has become disgusting to many due to the opening ceremony, general poor organization and the participation of men/mutants in the women's categories) and I heard that the organizers have seriously reduced the price of tickets because many seats in the stands remain empty.
Today, the good news is that Maguchikh won gold (with a rather modest result of 2.0 meters).

I think it will be fair (but not profitable) to run separate Olympic games for such kind of athletes. Since there are Paralympics games, why those "special" have to participate in men/women Olympic games? Let them have their own competition. Or let Paralympic athletes compete together with other athletes. I know it sounds wrong and it is wrong to say it like that, but they should divide athletes on categories and let them participate among equal opponents.

Hello everyone.
In my opinion, this Olympics is not as interesting as it used to be, but the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games has slightly warmed up the interest in this event.
My only bet, which was before the start of the Olympics, is the gold of the Ukrainian Khizhnyak in boxing, today he won in the semi-finals and soon the final awaits him.

the 100 meter dash is the race that the whole world watches and it is always a pleasure to see that an Italian has normalized being there it is a strange thing because we are used to always seeing the same nationalities while marcel jacobs in addition to having given a sumptuous performance and in any case a really important time was there in the final and I would like to congratulate the American who ran a truly beautiful race

Turkey's loss to Italy wasn't a surprise. Italy has been really good at the Olympics and looks like a real threat. But let's break down what really went wrong for Turkey. Their pressure on Vargas was way too high. If your star player doesn't do their job, the whole team falls apart. Wake up, Turkey, and change up your game plan. They should not put all their eggs in one box. Don't forget that they did well against the Dominican Republic, so there is hope. Their game just needs to be more steady and smarter. Our loss serves as a wake-up call. Turkey needs to step up their game if they want to keep in the championship race

I think Turkey did not play impressively throughout this Olympics because many teams were already quite familiar with Turkey's strategy and games, therefore they had prepared the anticipation. It's true what you say, Turkey have quite a big dependence on Vargas and that makes their game monotonous (it was different in the past when Karakurt and Baladin were still in their prime).

Turkey will play against China in the quarterfinals and I think this will be a tough fight for Turkey because China is on fire and although China is also quite dependent on Li Yingying but they have quite a variety of attacks, and what is clear is that China has incredible stamina. If the match has to go through a long rally, then China will have the upper hand.

It is interesting for other spectators who are following some athletes. You may be interested to one sports but for other viewers especially those countries with small delegations, they are surely watching every event of their athletes. I also find myself watching some sports that I previously not watching. Maybe, it is because of some viral discussions like the air pistol event. I believe a lot are now familiar with Yusuf Dikec of Turkey, even if he didn't get the gold but he got the attention of the people.

Just the 2 popular images circulating over the net and you will understand why Yusuf & Yeji Kim is the hot topic of discussions these days. Remember, a lot of spectators here didn't watch air pistol before this event

Despite those issues raised I still find the Olympics interesting since there's lots of thing happened and everything still results or wins gain by athletes is really amazing since able to see how they play hard just to achieve or win a gold medal in this tournament.

If you don't like those issues ignore it and focus on the sports you like since for sure you could able made a lot of fun watching your countrymen competing to win gold and honor your country.

Basketball is one favorite sports there. But also watching other sports category because every game is exciting since the level of competitiveness is different and after the game its good to see how people celebrate their wins especially when they win the gold medal on the sports they are participating.

They did the same time 9.79, the queen event in athletics and perhaps one of the most anticipated, Gold! had the winner in the States, recovering the gold medal after 20 years, in the Olympic games.

5 thousandths decided the gold medal winner.   Cool

And in the athletics extra, the mixed 4x400, incredible finish by the Dutch athlete, one of the most exciting competitions so far, well the queen (100m) event was so good, but it only lasts about 10 seconds...  Smiley

Well done Holland, there is a very popular user of this board gambling from that country, congratulations to him too,,,  Smiley

The Philippines just won its second gold in gymnastics courtesy of Carlos Yulo. He did it first in artistic gymnastics and again in the men's vault.
Prior to Hidilyn Diaz winning gold in the 2020 Olympics, we had a 100-year drought. Now, the Philippines has the potential to add more gold as there are still three hopefuls: two in boxing and one in the high jump.
The Philippines is now leading the medal haul in the South East; the Philippines has really come a long way.
Funny how and this has already been joked around for a while now, that the ones our sports committee pay little to no mind about, are the ones that are giving us golds and silvers all around. Basketball on the other hand while being funded and supported like crazy, couldn't even perform against B-list countries who didn't even have that much care nor love about the sport as much as Pinoys do. Goes to show just how stupid people are in this country.

In any case, not posting this to take away at the success of Carlos Yulo and the folks who really gave us a chance to be noticed in the Olympics, and as far as I know they are getting much deserved praise and love from our government recently. So good for them.

Simone Biles is seriously something else. She keeps winning gold after gold at this Olympics despite her issues in the Tokyo Olympics and has solidified her status as one of the GOATS of artistic gymnastics.

On the other hand, we have Katie Ledecky who keeps dominating 800m freestyle and has solidified her status as the best US female Olympian so far. Titmus tried hard, but the gap between them was pretty evident. Legends!

If Simone didn't have that set back in Tokyo she would indisputable be the goat but even still not only the Olympics but the world's amd every other major tourny for the last 8-10 years she has just killed it.  She gets 2 more shots tomorrow to add to her legacy.  Same with ledecky, she said she is coming back for the 2028 games so she will likely end up at least for the US women's swing team the GOAT, which she already is

I was expecting a better time for the final of 100m men, something like 9.75 or less.
But the final was good anyway.

I think it is the 1st time in the history where the gold and second place got only a difference of half of one cent of a second crazy.

Timers got faster in the last year since they use high tech shoes.

Damn, men 100m final was even better than I expected. It was such equal run that photo finish was needed to decide winner - Noah Lyles and Kishane Thompson had equal time 9.79. It's persinal best result for Lyles and it was rewarded with gold.
Women high jump final was a bit disappointing. Yaroslava Mahuchikh didn't faced much competition, only Nicola Olyslagers reached 2.00m. Mahuchikh also was far from her World Record 2.10, just 2.00 from first attempt was enough to take gold

The Olympic quarterfinal pairings have been announced.

Serbia-Australia
Brazil-USA
Germany-Greece
France-Canada

USA has the easiest quarterfinal match. USA will win this match very easily.

The other matches are really even, let's see which countries will reach the semifinals.

Petty Officer Senior Sergeant Yusuf Dikeç
No special glasses, no headphones, hands in his pockets and he won the silver medal. He left his mark on the Olympics with this style and stance and will be remembered for a long time.
Congratulations...

Everyone is talking about him on social media. He has suddenly become very popular. I read a statement that he gave to the press today. He describes himself as a natural athlete. He thinks that if people compete with their individual talents, it makes the sport more meaningful. I think he has a great philosophy. It reminded me of Far Eastern philosophies. I think races where everyone has equal conditions would be more meaningful. Some equipment is better than other equipment. And some equipment puts talent in the background. I think Yusuf Dikeç is right about this.

She still has chances to win 1 more right ?
There are still two events remaining for Simone Biles. One will be the balance beam and the other one will be floor exercise. Both will take place tomorrow.
Simone Biles should have a big chance to win two more medals. She was ranked first at floor exercise qualification and second at balance beam qualification.
Also, i'm strongly supporting Simone Biles as my favorite person to win this medal come tomorrow, and which between the floor exercise and the balance beam games, she's more skilled at performing in the floor exercise than she does in the balance beam this olympic tournament, Therefore I believe that when it comes to floor exercise, this is where she's most likely will have another golden opportunity to take home with her another gold medal. But if at last she is able to win the two medals, then that would be an amazing thing to do.
