I guess that if an event gets too big, like the BCA or the pizza contest, a notification wouldn’t be so bad, but actually it would be impossibile for any active user not to be aware of this, so the very act of notification would be useless.

Maybe you could add an option of being notified about these "social events": I would be an happy user of this feature!

Some members do not regularly visit the Meta section, where such big things are often started and surely there is a significant number of those who are not informed about such contests and events.

@TryNinja This can be useful if you have time to maintain the activity, but if you implement something similar, be sure to leave the possibility for each user to turn this type of notification on or off. It must be optional.

Over the year, Events has  been taking place  on the forum and users has been participating in such events but maybe not everyone.
Although,  users get to know about such events by following such boards and staying active on such boards but  not everyone  gets to know about these  events  as early as possible even with the awareness, which lead me to making this topic.
For example,
Last year I didn't  know there was a vote for awards which was given until i saw the thread this  year, maybe because I was new to the forum then
I didn't know  o_e_l_e_o dropped a thread for his absence (although it's  a touching one) until I was going through his thread

In my view, can we have  happening event  threads maybe at the right side of the the second  header section, It's kind of similar  to Altcointalks but we can make ours just for happening  events threads and new announcements threads or maybe anything we with to add

With this users  can easily spot what is currently happening either event or announcements.

This made me think... what if I manually send notifications about big yearly events to the users using my telegram notification bot (~1000 users)?

For exemple, icopress' yearly Bitcointalk Community Awards, the Bitcoin Pizza competition etc...

I could send a one time survey asking if they want to know about these big events (which happens like 3-4 times per year, nothing too spammy).

But then, which ones are "worthy" a notification? Maybe you want to know about the yearly community awards but not about a prominient member leaving the forum (because you might not care, etc...).

I have been using this Telegram Notification bot from last few days and I really love this thing. It has allowed me to reply all those people who mentioned me or who quoted me. I'm thankful to TryNinja for developing this amazing bot. You're really done a great job mate!

Who noticed the New features added to the Bitcointalk telegram SuperNotifier? or am I just seeing it?
Yep, released it a few months ago:
Am happy for the improvement as it has reduced the stress of typing the whole name of the topic before one can track he's own topics.
However I can say that a lot of people that are using the Bitcointalk telegram SuperNotifier don't know how to track their own topics even when the details are there on the home screen but this new feature will help them because immediately they click on post after writing their threads the notification will pop up and they just have to click on it (yes, add to tracked topics). It's street fee that's why I loved it and I also believed that many others here in Bitcointalk also likes it too.

But when I was trying to track a topic, the topic name was shown as "test" when the current topic name is something else. Maybe the original topic name indeed was "test" and later was edited.
It was the original name, yes. Maybe I can make it so the first time someone tracks the topic the name is rescraped, I don't know... I'll see. Smiley

So, I was tracking Royse777's posts and recently I noticed that I didn't get any notifications from his posts. It looks like this happened because he also recently changed his username. Just a suggestion: I think it would be better to use UID instead of the username if this is the case. I think this a valid point. This could help ensure that notifications  delivered to users who are following specific accounts regardless of any changes in usernames.
Right, but name changes are still rare and using the UID seems worse for the user experience. I have an idea if it starts happening more often, but it's not my priority right now.

Hey TryNinja  Smiley

Not an issue, your bot works like magic.

But when I was trying to track a topic, the topic name was shown as "test" when the current topic name is something else. Maybe the original topic name indeed was "test" and later was edited. Thus the difference. I dunno, maybe that's the case. Anyway I'm letting you know. It's your bot, you would know better how it worked. Correct me if I'm wrong anywhere. Thanks.

Who noticed the New features added to the Bitcointalk telegram SuperNotifier? or am I just seeing it?
Yep, released it a few months ago:

New Feature

Auto-Track Own Topics - if enabled, every new topic you make will be added to your tracked topics list (after confirmation).

I saw myself having to manually add most of my new topics to my list, so this makes life easier for me. Hopefully it's useful to other people. Smiley

How to enable it:

You can enable this feature on the "Notifications" menu (if needed, run /menu to get the main menu).

Who noticed the New features added to the Bitcointalk telegram SuperNotifier? or am I just seeing it?

Some days ago, I create a new topic and I was asked if I would want to track the topic and I didn't pay attention to it because I haven't seen it the first time.
But today I created another new topic and I was asked the same question and this time I clicked yes and I was happy to see that I can track my topic immediately I post any new topics.
However, one can also track his/her own topics and other topics even before now but my happiness is this new feature is stress free as you don't have to type in the title of the topic before you can add your own topics on the notifier.
Thanks to TryNinja for creating the SUPERNOTIFIER

Wow, this is incredible, I can't believe I never saw this before. I can't wait to try the bot on telegram. For a noob with this bot can anyone kindly tell me some of the coolest things you can do with it? It looks like people have asked for improvements/ given ideas, have many of them been implemented and also is this still being upgraded today?
If you experience some problem like wrong merit count then you can use the command /setmerit (correct merit count) then your good to go. I am quite surprised you haven't checked the bot when it's basically in display in meta board as this thread have many replies so it will stay on the first page of the board. Well, that's what I can share to you and it's up to you to check other features of the bot by checking the menu in the bot.

Besides @darkv0rt3x, would anyone else like this option? Cheesy
I wouldn't want the option.

Not everyone knows how to use the @ when writing to a particular user, they just type out the name in full, sometimes incorrectly spelt even. Not worth it having a notification bot and still missing where you were mentioned in discussions which you may have wanted to see.

If it's not too much of a hassle you can make two options, one to only get notified of quotes and another to be notified of all mentions.

Personally, it wouldn't be a function I use - notifications don't bother me.

Either way, if the development is not too complicated, it could be an interesting new feature.  Wink

A quick question.

Some people might get annoyed when they are notified every time someone writes their name. Maybe you only want to get a notification when someone quotes your post or when you're tagged with an @.

- "Notify me every time someone mentions my name"
- "Notify me only when someone tags me (@TryNinja) or quotes my post"

Besides @darkv0rt3x, would anyone else like this option? Cheesy

@Tryninja, could you please check why I can see this difference between Bitcointalk information and the information in Telegram via your bot:
~~
The merit count seems to be mismatched by 1 unit! Can you check if this is supposed to happen or if this is indeed some bug?

Ive met the same issue before and just ignored thought they would make an update, but mine has 3 merits discrepancy, I would like to verify that this code

given by TryNinja works well on my side.

Yeah, exactly. I think it was the first time I used commands with this bot. lol. I never noticed the merit was wrong so I never explored the commands that could be ran with the bot. And I thought somehow the bot was able to read the data from the users from the database, so information should match.

I guess the bot doesn't match it's calculation against forum database, so when its count get tangled a little bit, the two numbers can differ.
I think checking the merit balance would add a too elevated number of enquiries to the forum, and I think this is the reason TryNinja didn't implement it.
Anyway the /setmerit command works as a charm, and I find myself using it every few months when I realise my merit count is off by a little.
Probably this is a good compromise between accuracy and resource usage for both the bot and forum infrastructures.
