Congrats for Nadal for coming back from 2 sets down and to win his 21th grandslam! It still shows that despite the rise of the young talents that the big 3 is not done yet and can potentially dominate for some more years. There was a lot of value on Nadal to win but too bad I only placed a small bet on him.
Really impressive that nadal managed to win again at his curent age but i think the fact that he didnt play match last year due to the injury helped him a little since medvedev has been really competing almost all year long, i think with nadal new grand slam we will see more rivalry from djokovic in the roland garros tournament its gonna be fire.

I'm really looking forward to see Djoko get in he next GS

Well... potentially more drama to come. I believe France are cracking down on the unvaccinated, they said a couple of weeks ago that "all athletes have to be vaccinated"... so unless that changes, in a few months' time we could be watching Rafa win his 22nd (22nd Slam I mean, not 22nd French open... although he's not far off!).

https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2022/jan/17/djokovics-french-open-title-defence-in-doubt-over-covid-pass-ruling

it would practically mean that he gives up tennis.
I really don't believe he's Djokovic going to throw away his great career because he does not want to be vaccinated. Wimbledon will certainly not be able to play without the vaccine there the rules are even more rigorous and clear. US open probably will do the same rule.

impressive win by Nadal at Australian open tonight.
He seems definitely in a good shape... he can deserve a good position in the final rank if he continue to play in that way.
now there is live another interesting match/players Mannarino, Adrian - Karatsev, Aslan, interesting to follow Wink interesting to place quick bets (like single winning and moreover)

A fantastic race for a true phenomenon!
I should quote myself Roll Eyes because I had noticed his excellent form, but I was not really sure he would be able to achieve such a result ... he is not young anymore and a lot of players are ready to fight in a decent manner.
Well honor to a great sportsman.
He gave prestige to tennis at a time when it was in danger of becoming a battleground for legal, medical, lawyers etc etc  Roll Eyes

yea great final, over 5 hours of great Tennis from both players, lots of breaks,
lots of drama and super trick shots. The service game played a big role for both
today, Nadal's wasnt great but became more effective as the match progressed and
Medvedev's was super for the first set but started to weaken as the match progressed.

Rafas stamina stayed true while Medvedev seemed to suffer late in the fourth set.

Medvedev's drop shots were not great, neither were Rafas but better, to me Rafas forehand
winners were better than
Medvedev's backhand ones.

Looking at the stats for the game Medvedev's are marginally better but its about
"the moments" or "key moments" which I suppose experience can make the difference.

Well done to all who backed Nadal, I'm happy for him and it will be hard to bet against
him now.

Well done on your picks for this one Trofo! I only played cheeky money on two 3:2 wins either side so I actually end up making a few dollars but was just ready to sit and enjoy.
Had to go out now, did not expect match to get in this long but have a feeling will return home to see Nadal get his 21st.
What a turnaround of events in this match. Nadal really managed to come back after being 0-2 behind and win his 21st grand slam. I would guess that only the most loyal Nadal fans expected him to be able to do this after he lost the second set in such a close and dramatic way. I have to say though that nadal can thank Medvedev 100 times for throwing the match away. Medvedev was 2-0 sets up and he already had 3 break points again in the second set while Nadal was serving, but then he somehow stopped playing aggressively and he gave away all those 3 break points in a very weird way in my opinion. After that the momentum changed and Medvedev was not the same anymore.

This has to go down as one of the best comebacks in the history of Tennis. Specially I have to say that the audience played a huge part in Nadal winning the trophy.

You know, Medvedev was so close to the win but since he made a mistake, the audience got the better of him as they cheered a lot for Nadal and maybe that's why Medvedev got nervous and eventually lost his momentum giving away the trophy to Nadal. I have to say great resilience from Nadal.

I think it's hard on Medvedev to say he threw it away. Rafa, Djokovic and Federer can't ever be written off, even 2 sets down in a slam final. I think it was much more Nadal winning it than Medvedev losing it. Medvedev would have beaten everyone else (except maybe someone who might have wanted to play but got deported).

Yeah, that's unfair on him. This wasn't about the Russian throwing the game, it's about Nadal reminding everyone that today, the modern great athlete ages like fine wine. Imagine, how good can all the current crop of 20+ year olds will be after a decade of experience?

Well, I got the women's and men's winner right, and made a little bit of profit... so my betting record is improving a bit, even if the women's winner wasn't remotely surprising and the men's winner wasn't a huge shock either... so it's not exactly a proud achievement, but I'll take what I can get!
Is 2022 my year for tennis betting? Cheesy

Ash Barty fine, was a clear favourite, but I think getting Nadal right is worth some gold (given his age and the rise to prominence of so many young ones). So you deserve every pat on the back for that.

I'm really looking forward to see Djoko get in he next GS because someone needs to match Nadal's 21 now. I know I've said so many times Fedex has his last shot but I definitely want to see a swansong. All the elite athletes of 20+ GS in one tournament

Medvedev is the rising star of tennis and was close to winning a new title, but the score went from 2-0 to 2-2. Now the final set will determine the champion. There is no taste of Australia without Djokovic, I haven't watched the previous games but the last set of the final will not be missed. Medvedev will make history if he wins. Now the era of the big three is over, the new generation is taking over.

Is Nadal's great return to this match imminent?
He seems to be pretty close to taking this match to the fifth set and then the psychological advantage would definitely be on his side.
I mentioned earlier that I think that Nadal is a much more experienced tennis player than Medvedev, he has played a lot more matches like this and he copes better with the pressure.
If the match goes to the fifth set, I think Nadal is the favorite to win.
Great match.

Well here we go, 1 set decider.

I fear a bit for my bet on Medvedev to win, he was looking a bit de-energised or
less energised than Nadal at the end of the fourth.

Nadal has a real chance to take this title, as said experience at playing
5set finals will stand to him.

Oops wrong calls on the double from me !
good third set win by Rafa.
Medvedev annoyed again with the crowd and ball kids.
Now the fun starts, I want too see Medvedev loose it a bit so we can properly test his mental resilience.

I was afraid for my bets when Nadal lost second set after being in front couple of times but this one should be enough for all my bets to pass. Now I can enyoy the match without added stress Smiley

wow that was some second set, 2 breaks for each player. Medvedev had a fantastic
first set but his service game fell off in the second set. I cashed out my bet on Nadal
to win a set when Medvedev broke back for the first time.

Nadal's service game is in the 50's for 1st serve and too many unforced errors into
the net are not helping him.

Fantastic match so far though, some super shots played.
IMO this wont go past three sets.

Medvedev's last break was long and impressive how many break balls Nadal fended off, I'm curious if Nadal can still win the set. If Nadal loses the set, I think Medvedev will win the tournament, Nadal's backhand is not very good today and Nadal's first serves are weak.

At the moment it really looks like that everything is going into Medvedevs direction. He seems extremely fit and now, after he has won the second set also after a very close tiebreak he also has the psychological advantage clearly on his side at the moment. Even now in the third set Medvedev seems to have not much problems at all to win his serve games, while Nadal seems to be under pressure in almost all of his serve games. I think that it is 99% sure now that Medvedev will win the Australian Open this year because i don't think Nadal has the fitness yet to show his absolute top performance level over 5 sets and he would need to do that today to have a chance.

I also think that the momentum and advantages lie with Medvedev, Nadal also has problems with his serve, should Medvedev now manage the break, I assume that Medvedev will win the match in 3 sets, but also with Nadal a lot is still possible, even if it is rather unlikely.

Once Special Ks and Barty took their seats, I thought it was only natural Nadal would join them but after losing the first set, and properly too, I guess we should be preparing for the Russian to take a bow at the end, huh. Still hoping the crowd spurs Rafa on. But Medvedev probably realises this right now that shutting up and talking less makes him a better player Wink
