Extending the Championship seems the right option but its not an easy task due to FTP (Future tour programs) Which includes every bilateral series, ICC tournaments and so on (Already fixed). It could happen if all cricket board sits together with the ICC and start brainstorming, if not then we are going to see many series similar to NZ vs Eng (last year). Because of ftp complication this series was not part of the WTC.

Well.. I would agree. The only solution is for everyone to sit around and reach a consensus on rescheduling the matches. But then, how can they reschedule the tours, when it is not known for how long this pandemic is going to continue? All the 5 test playing nations in the South Asia region are severely affected, with the outbreak yet to peak. At this point, they can't guarantee any fixed dates.

PS: How is everything out there in India? I read in the news that the corona is spreading at an alerming rate in there? I hope you and other who are from India in here are safe and healthy.

Indians wanted to win the corona race and believe me we are winning it but we changed the goal post. India already standing strong at 4th position Now we just wants to beat Brazil (2nd) and Russia (3rd), India might replace Russia soon.

Other than that everything is calm, some friendly activities on borders #Indiachina. Nothing too serious except dozens of casualties. Situation is very much in control as both armies building up arsenal on their side of borders, in case someone feels itchy fingers.

In short yeah all good n safe.

Govt. just left all of us in our own faith,
Until there is a cure, we all are in danger. It's time for everyone to practice the safety. India is a place which is too crowded and honestly speaking without creating self awareness no one can control it even the government. I really hope your people are trying their best to keep them safe when they are going outside.

Pak also reached England for their series after West Indies series.
So it seems England is the only country who are trying to go back to their normal sporting habits. After football now they are opening their door for Cricket too.

Eng vs WI : First test 8th July ( Not 1st) Cricinfo pulling prank on you.  Tongue

WC : Only 1% chance, almost all hope lost as far as i can tell from the all news source.

IPL : Yes, BCCI not going to miss out the opportunity.
LOL
No, it was not cricinfo but me who got the wrong view. 1st July they have a warm up match :-P
Yeah, from the 8th the series is starting and good to hear that cricket will be back wih this.

Seeing IPL instead of world cup would not be that boring. I hope they make it.

Guys any cricket around?
Cricinfo is showing West Indies tour of England 2020 is starting on July 1st. Is this happening or is going to postpone?

I believe there will be no T20 WC. I heard this that IPL wanted to host in the T20 WC schedule or something. What about it?

Either they can extend it to December 2021, or they can cut short the championship. But then extending the championship may add another set of complexities, as the second edition is supposed to start from July 2021.
There is nothing complex here, all they have to do is extend the lost time period and then extend the second edition and these are not situations that occur regularly and these are global situation you need to adjust according to the situation and to have a fair situation the ICC will extend the Test championship rather than cutting short the matches which is not going to be fair for all the teams.

In my view this could be better option for ICC sit with other boards and discuss about this and extend this WTC for extended and use this few series will not included in WTC because right now they have no other option schedule is already very busy for them and still uncertainty around may be they will able to have this all ok.

Right now many countries facing trouble just because of this Corona so may be ICC will do some planning about this and extend this WTC because if they will not do any favourable plan then surely its going to hurt their future plans about WTC right now situation is not in any country's control so its better all do some better suggestions and ICC will try to settle this all.

The only viable option in my opinion, is to extend the WTC by another 6-12 months, depending on the pandemic situation. Originally, the first edition of the ICC World Test Championship was supposed to run from August 2019 to June 2021. Either they can extend it to December 2021, or they can cut short the championship. But then extending the championship may add another set of complexities, as the second edition is supposed to start from July 2021.

Some cricket board lost few test games due to pandemic but it hit Bangladeshi camp real hard, they were schedule to play at-least 8 test games this year. I think ICC should extend the World Test Championship and reschedule the fixtures.
Unless ICC extends WTC, can't make up for cancelled Tests: BCB

Quote
With the latest postponement of the Sri Lanka tour due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Bangladesh have so far missed eight Tests this year due to the virus - one away Test against Pakistan in April, a two-Test series against Australia in June, two Tests against New Zealand along with three against Sri Lanka. All eight were part of the ICC Test Championship that was launched on August 1 with the first Ashes Test and was running smoothly until the COVID-19 pandemic.

Quote
"Unless the current ICC Test Championship cycle is extended there is no way we can play those eight Test matches in the stipulated time frame of the first cycle," BCB cricket operations chairman Akram Khan told Cricbuzz on Saturday (June 27). "We are looking forward to see what ICC does with the Test Championship because unless it is reshuffled there is hardly any possibility to play the eight Test matches that got cancelled," he said.

Its good to see that there will be some test match cricket played in the coming month between England and the WI. I think that the series will be evenly matched as there hasn't been any cricket played for so long so we can't really say one team has an advantage except for home ground advantage. Anyway I'm thinking of betting on the WI to win the first test match as some value as we don't know how well the teams will perform with no playing for so long.

Finally we are going to see some live cricket action from 1st July, 2020. After  long waiting it will be good to see some live action from England.
First Test will be played at Southampton while the 2nd and 3rd test will be played at Manchester ground.

1st Test England Vs WestIndies  8   July
2nd Test England Vs  WestIndies     16  July
3st Test England Vs WestIndies  24 July

@vella85 yea England only has the home ground advantage, but it’s also pertinent to note they can’t shine the ball and without the shine I don’t think that they’ll benefit from playing at home. Also WI player’s attitude feels like they’re over confident of beating England, hence I’m tempted to wager on England as I feel that WI will loose due to their player’s arrogance/over confidence.

Both teams have to follow the new rule, wherein they will not be able to shine the ball. The advantage for England is that they will be playing in their home ground and are aware of the pitch condition as well as the climate. Whereas WI have to first adapt to the condition. Therefore England is in a better position than WI.

This new rule of not shining the ball is introduced keeping in view of the covid-19 and these are the temporary rules. The ball cannot be shine with  saliva but what if it is shined with the sweat of the players ? Players hand are wet from sweat and they can use it to shine the ball. Can't they ?

The other great rule is that if a person develops symptoms of covid19 in a test match he can be replaced with other player and neutral umpires is another good step including in the rules.

The players will only get the warning if they tried to shine the ball with saliva. If they did it multiple times , two warning will mean 5 runs to the batting team. If you are playing cricket in England, Australia or NZ, these places have cold climate and players hardly sweat there.  No match is being played in asia recently, so by that time this rule may be lifted or modified.

^^True, when we talk about all-rounder then Kallis's name comes to mind.
Jacques Kallis is the last true allrounder we saw in world cricket and Andrew Flintoff is another close player who had the potential but he showcased his bowling potential only during the 2005 Ashes but he could not fulfill the potential constantly.

I still do not agree an inconsistent player who has always displayed immaturity on and off the field can be considered as a great all rounder. Pakistan has a history of brilliant and respected all rounders in the past. Comparing Afridi as a game changer, game saver and an all rounder is a disgrace to those legends.
I never said Afridi was a consistent allrounder, historically there is only one allrounder for Pakistan and that is Imran Khan and there is no other player that can be tagged as an allrounder in the history of Pakistan cricket if you are looking at that lense.
