Arsenal are fortunate to have a goalkeeper as great as Raya who was able to ward off an Atalanta player's penalty kick and followed it up with a classy save when blocking the rebound. If it wasn't for him who performed brilliantly under the crossbar, perhaps Arsenal would have lost at Atalanta headquarters. Yes, maybe Arteta prefers to play cautiously to prepare his team for another Big Match against Manchester City in the EPL. Arsenal back line plays very well but was not matched by the midfielder and front lines, perhaps this is a lesson for Arteta who does not want to bring in a new striker at the start of the season.

Arteta has no choice as there are many games in the champions league and he's going to have his opportunity to win other games but he couldn't sacrifice losing this game against Manchester city for him to win against Atalanta. Drawing was a better choice and it was the game plan Arteta had for Arsenal from the begining of the match. Both team tried but I wasn't enjoying the game as they lacked goals. I thought Atalanta was going to win but the goalkeeper had an awesome game and it kept Arsenal in the game. Saka not taking his chances when it came was annoying to me as I thought a player like him is supposed to convert his chances to win the game for Arsenal.
Atalanta is actually lucky enough to be able to face Arsenal when they are in a limp like today, because I think if the injury storm is not experienced by Arsenal at the moment then it is likely that they will play very impressive to beat Atalanta, performance shown by Arsenal in the match was not the best game Arsenal remembered the lack of chances created in the match,  So far we can see Arsenal collective play and also often do attacks that are built through the midfield and we don't see it happen when Odegaard is injured at the moment, so a draw is indeed a fair result for both teams although actually Atalanta was unlucky when their penalty kick did not result in a goal in the match, the ability and also the reflexes possessed by Raya are really quite qualified and he is indeed worthy of being the number 1 goalkeeper Arsenal currently,I don't think any coach will sacrifice points in the Champions League just for the sake of victory in the next game that they can't necessarily win and the draw Arsenal won in that match is indeed a form of their inability to beat Atalanta after their poor performance in the match.

Stegen has many options to make a pass to the right, left, center or a strong pass ahead to middle of field, but he chose a worst and most terrible option. Yamal scored a beautiful goal but it's not enough for Barcelona to have three points with only ten players since 10th minute.
I really agree with you. I understand the disappointment of people with Garcia's mistake of getting a red card in the early game. Because it really devastated them. However, Garcia's position seemed to reflect in a desperate manner. I was more focused on how could ter Stegen play that poor when he kicked the ball towards the opponent's area, while there was still very close to the penalty box. It was a very bad pass. I understand this will be a debate about who is to blame, but one thing is for sure, they have lost and should get 3 points in the next match.

Barcelona red card

Because there are still 7 matches left, anything can happen it is possible if Inter, Manchester City and Arsenal are able to sweep all the competitions in front of them. And for clubs that have won 3 points in the opening match still do not feel safe in their current position. For now, sharing the points might be better than losing badly.
Arsenal and Man City both got draw match result. And in the next match, Man City will play against Slovan Bratislava while Arsenal will play against PSG. Man City has a big chance to win, while Arsenal, this will be a much more difficult match than Man City got.

Both of Monaco vs Barcelona and Atlanta vs arsenal are not a huge surprise as many people are portraying it. Atlanta were the Europa league champions beating last season Bundesliga winner Leverkusen. Monaco too is a second team in french league last season. Both of Atlanta and Monaco were playing at home. Manchester City vs Inter Milan was much surprising for me. But its first round of league and there are plenty of matches to be played.
The results obtained by Manchester City vs Inter Milan in the Champions League this season are reasonable and not very surprising if we look at their respective strengths this season and last season both were also teams that won their respective domestic leagues. But the result of the Monaco vs Barcelona match surprised me a little because before the match started I thought that Barcelona would definitely be able to win over Monaco, but in reality Barcelona had to lose in the match, even though Barcelona's strength was not that bad this season.

In Manchester City vs Inter Milan match we saw the expected result. Both teams played well in the match and that was normal. Because Inter Milan and Manchester City are both very strong teams. We cannot consider any team as weak here. Both teams have the ability to beat their opponents. And we got to enjoy a competitive match. The match did not see a goal, but there were plenty of attacks by players from both teams.

However, in the Monaco vs Barcelona match, we all considered Barcelona as favourites. If Garcia had not received the red card at the beginning of the match, the result of the match might have been in favor of Barcelona. This was the major turning point in the match. There is also no denying that Monaco's players played well in this match. They won the match by playing well.

I think it's 100% the goalkeeper's mistake, no one else is to blame. The one who makes the decision is responsible, he made the worst decision possible.
By the way, I heard that in pre-season games Monaco beat Barcelona 3-0, so in some sense you can say that Barcelona is progressing  Grin
This game looks like an accident rather than a logical outcome, so I hope everyone (including the bookies) continues to overrate Barcelona.
That is the fact that previously Monaco managed to beat Barcelona in Trofeo Joan Gamper 2024 which in fact was a tournament they made themselves in pre-season and in yesterday's official match their chance was actually revenge for Trofeo Joan Gamper but what happened was the opposite where they had to be willing to lose 1 player and lose points in the first match of the Champions League Cheesy

Regarding the communication error or maybe it was more Ter Stegen's fault for something like this in the game there are always things like this and of course this should be used as a situation where they can improve even more because this is not the first time mistakes have occurred in the Champions League because if we remember last season they also did the same thing when meeting PSG in the Champions League which in the end made a loss for themselves.

The second week they will face Young Boys should be a calm before the match against Bayern returns with an interesting situation between Barcelona, Flick and Bayern.

Atlanta were just playing base on instructions we all know how dangerous Arsenal as a Club are when it comes to set pieces that will lead to an air attack. Arsenal have players who are very good in the air and this has been one of their routes to getting goals.
It may be quite surprising with the result, but if we look at the statistics, Arsenal really is not that good this time (except Raya).

There must be expressions of regret and disappointment, so next week, they must try more optimally, to get a win. Although this will not be easy for them because they are also against PSG.

Indeed, Monaco is a top team in the French league, of course that's why they entered the UCL. However, to be honest, sorry if compared to Barcelona, their team strength should not be balanced. Barcelona should be superior in all lines. However, unfortunately, it is not because Monaco is very strong, but because Barcelona only played with 10 players from the beginning of the match. It was really difficult, 10 vs 11.
Most people think that the Atalanta tie with arsenal would just be like a walk in the park for arsenal which I strongly disagree in the very onset, they don't know that Atalanta is not a push over as they initially thought, they forgot so easily that Atalanta is the the current champions of the uefa Europa league, and on that day, arsenal was the team that was even lucky to return to england with a draw, because if Atalanta had converted the penalty they had, and with some couple of chances they had, they would have won that game.

Then as for the Monaco vs barca tie, to be sincere here, Monaco would not have won that game if Barcelona wasn't a man down so early in the game, and to me the early red card change the whole course of the game into the favour of Monaco, so it was very clear for everyone to see why Barcelona lost.
Then as for the upcoming  tie between arsenal vs psg, it's actually going to be a fascinating encounter between them and it's a game am actually looking forward to.

Yes of course it would be different if Barcelona was coached like Pep Guardiola. Barcelona will definitely change their formation more intense to defense and and maximize their wingers. Gonzales slightly pulled in back to help defense while Casado maybe a little bit ahead to help supply a ball to Yamal and Raphael. When I look how their play, that look their defense very open and make attacker Monaco easier to build attack. Because Barcelona have Lewandowski a head, so it's easy to organize players on center to pulled back when Monaco player planning an attack.

It is difficult to create a formation when facing a superior number of players, because it will not be balanced and in my opinion implementing a defensive strategy and utilizing fast counterattacks is the best option. When they build a strategy by relying on ball possession, it will be more difficult because the space will definitely be more closed because they lack players who can create open space to receive the ball.
Honestly, I usually hesitate when a team has to play with 10 people against 11 people, because the strategy used will look lacking because there are no players. Although in some cases the team can win even with a lack of players, but usually the match is very different in terms of team level.

As I wrote in a previous comment, Monaco strength is very difficult to predict because they have not qualified for the UCL for a long time. Monaco were lucky in this game because Barcelona had to play with 10 men and a fatal mistake was made by Ter Stegen, if both teams played 11 vs 11, maybe the result would be different.

Yes that is right Recent surprises in European football like Monaco beating Barcelona and Atlanta beating Arsenal should not be shocking. Atlanta won Europa League against  strong German team Leverkusen and Monaco did well in French league last season. They also had advantage of playing at home. What really surprised me was Manchester City result against Inter Milan. But let's not forget, it is just the beginning of the season and teams have many more chances to recover and change the outcome.

What I noticed at the end of the games was that Atlanta was so observant about a set piece for Arsenal. They rather prefer the ball to go to the throwing side than being a corner. It was just 2/2 corners for both teams before the game ended and the reason for Atlanta being watched over those corners is that Arsenal has created more goal chances during corners. And if they have multiple corners they may end up scoring one and then winning the game. To be honest Atlanta's coach is a good coach and his boys played against Arsenal so well that they deserve more than the draw they got in the game. The penalty would have sealed everything if they had scored it.

Atlanta were just playing base on instructions we all know how dangerous Arsenal as a Club are when it comes to set pieces that will lead to an air attack. Arsenal have players who are very good in the air and this has been one of their routes to getting goals. Last season Arsenal defender Gabriel had 6 goals with which all of them were headed goals from set pieces. Yesterday Atlanta knew Arsenal wanted to use it against them and stopped them from doing, if I can remember the only corner against Tottenham in the league was the goal they got to score and win the match so maybe most teams are actually studying how they arsenal had deployed method to get goals off opponents.

Overall yesterday Arsenal were simply just poor, I think Arteta needs to find solutions to the lack of creativity coming from the midfield in the absence of Their club captain. Against Manchester city it will be very risky to try out a new formation yeh so they could stick to the Tottenham formation for now but if it doesn’t work again like the previous too matches then it will be worth for Arteta to actually experiment the young man Ethan Nweri who is their only creative midfielder left
Arsenal couldn't do much when facing a team with a good defense, even they were lucky enough to bring home 1 point. Arsenal controlled the game in a quarter of the match, but they slowly lost their balance, it was very clear. Even in terms of statistics Atalanta is superior in various aspects, Arteta squad really lost creativity when their key players were absent. As we all know that Atalanta is a surprising team, they are the champions of the Europa League last season, clearly they are not easy to beat by Arsenal.

Clearly the draw is a bad capital to face Man City in the Premier League, Arteta is really faced with a very tough challenge. If Arteta had recruited a sharper number 9 player in the transfer window yesterday, maybe they would have easily won every match. Their next opponent in the Champions League is even more difficult to beat, because PSG also has a fairly good squad depth. In the end, Arsenal journey was very steep, lucky if they could get through this difficult period undefeated.

Barcelona's start to the Champions League season was poor; they lost to AS Monaco. It was a defeat that surely hurt, but all the same, Barcelona still has the chance to make amends in the next game. Sure enough, in their second game, playing against Young Boys, Barcelona should capitalize on this opportunity and get three points because, especially because Young Boys do not have the same strength as Monaco.

Sure their stat was somehow poor tbh but they made use of their shot despite they didn't had alot of chance like Monaco did, Monaco had upto  18+ shots I think while Barcelona had less than five  shots attempt inqhich they had 1 to be successful out of it. They had to do more of defensive playing due to one of the back player gone the coach had to use another strategy to keep the team balance, inshort they tried... even though I thought it's gonna be a draw or win, the second half was a little bit tougher than I expected but nevertheless, it was a 2 to nil which Is not too far to close.

Aside the first day games, I don't think I enjoyed any of the other games that I saw. I watched Liverpool, City and Arsenal games and all of those games except for Liverpool were nothing to write home about. Imagine Atalanta and Arsenal sitting very deep for the entire game. It was a pain to watch. That match reminded me of how Nottingham Forest had an airtight defense against Liverpool in the premier league and it got them the win because Liverpool wasn't playing the same tactics and used a high line instead. This is beside the point though. I'm looking forward to future games hopefully they'd be a lot more interesting to watch.

I don't want to see City playing goalless draws with anybody.

It was a real surprise. I am not underestimating Monaco but Barcelona is a team on a level above Monaco. Almost everyone thought Barcelona would be able to win this match. Or if Barca played badly they would get a draw. The match was going well and Barcelona were dominating the match. But the red card received by Eric Garcia in the 10th minute changed the match significantly. Playing with 11 vs 10 made Monaco play aggressively using the man advantage. And Monaco managed to play well and won the match 2-1. This is not a good result for Barcelona. But there are still a few more matches and I am sure they will get a win soon.
Obviously everyone knows that Barcelona is far far better than Monaco. Monaco is a small club they are really not the most competitive club in the UEFA champions league despite Barcelona being big. In the match between them everyone is expecting that Barcelona will be victorious but at the end they lost the match. Here is guys point to be noted recently Barcelona have won their league matches with good strength and when it's come the turn of UEFA champions league they lost their first match although Barcelona are more favorite for winning. Guys it is a UEFA champions league not a La Liga it is much harder than La Liga not easy like La Liga. Therefore Barcelona are lost again they don't have any good quality in UEFA champions league competition always they got failed. UEFA champions league is not like La Liga it's too hard. It's need a lot of effort. UCL is a competitive league, and only clubs like Real Madrid have this kind of ability to win this title not like Barcelona.

Not quite the same when it comes to UEFA CL matches compared with some teams performing in their country league, where the whole tactic should be played for winning that specific match and not a long run and points calculation. The great example is Barcelona, where they surprised me after failing to secure a win against Monaco which they are in 3rd place standings at France League. However, it’s only the first match in UCL the new edition and there are many upcoming matches where every team should do the best to resolve many issues.

Personally, I find this new edition a little bit more interesting than the previous ones, although I wasn’t really sure about it before it beginning. More opportunities for us to secure winning bets and suitable odds?
For Barcelona i think it's not only you who surprised they will lost from Monaco because previously we have already to talking about this match and mostly people are very confident Barcelona can able to overcomes Monaco because in Laliga they were unstoppable but in fact they have lost and i am sure most of bettors have already to lost their money through an this match

Besides Barcelona we have seen too Arsenal has unexpected result and similar to Barcelona we all know Arsenal performance in Premier league is very impressive but in this competition Arsenal has opposite performance and they even almost be lost from Atalanta but luckily David Raya was performing well at that time and Arsenal can avoiding to lost

New format of Champion league indeed very interesting because on week 1 we have seen some of big teams were failed to beat their opponents but this is only the beginning of league and those who already gets unsatisfactory results still have a time to bounce back as long as they can win from their opcoming match

Yes, the Champions League is a special competition for the best teams across Europe, definitely its games will be completely different from other domestic leagues since all teams will be playing against best four teams in almost all the top Europe Leagues. You should not expect same performance from any team as they used to play in their local or domestic leagues.

Barcelona lost to Monaco yesterday because of the red card that was given to Barcelona players in the first ten minutes of the game. After the red card, Monaco's attackers had some motivation which led them to the victory they had at the end of the game Monaco really deserved to win because they were creating good chances and attempted to win the match which they did.

Sure enough, in their second game, playing against Young Boys, Barcelona should capitalize on this opportunity and get three points because, especially because Young Boys do not have the same strength as Monaco.

But the real test will be in the third match, against Bayern Munich. Bayern, on the other hand, have seen a great improvement in performance after the change of coach and have once again proven how strong they are in Europe: a resounding 9-2 victory over Dinamo as evidence of their current lethal form. Barcelona has to watch out because Bayern are known to be a team that more often than not kills off their opponents with big scores. It will be a very difficult test for Barcelona, playing against Bayern, to demonstrate whether they can compete back again at the top of European competition.
