Sorry but I think you might not win the first leg, but if you do, highest kudos Smiley

Actually, even a while before this, when we were pulling out Jota mid-game, after the match and after the cup final, we were already contemplating playing the kids to "underprioritise" the FA Cup and Europa League. Not giving up, mind you, but protecting our chances for next season.

Don't think many will be surprised if we lose. A draw will be considered positive.

Sporting Lisbon is now playing against Atalanta... Before the game, bookmakers gave Sporting odds of 2.0... But after the first half the score is 1:1 and Atalanta plays better than Sporting... I hope that the second half will be no less interesting...

Figures that Atalanta reserves their best for tonight, was a poor showing their last outing in Serie A. I miss the away goal sometimes but on nights like this with 10 minutes left at 1-1, and Atalanta still playing with gusto, you can appreciate the away goal scrapping.

I didn't watch the game, but the game stats say the two were evenly matched. Atalanta is slightly superior in building attacks, but Sporting are not too bad either. The two still drew 1-1 even though in the end I saw Atalanta as the team that deserved to win this match.

Atalanta might not have much influence if they only draw in this first leg. Atalanta will play at home in the second leg and they will make good use of it. The problem is, Atalanta must avoid defeat at the José Alvalade Stadium today because then they can maximize their home advantage in the second leg.

For tomorrow, Sparta Prague vs Liverpool and Roma vs Brighton. Those are two interesting matches, but Liverpool and Roma look like they will take the lead in their respective matches.

Poor Sparta Prague. They were about 40/1 to win, and then after drawing us, 100/1. Same thing happened with Qarabag after drawing Leverkusen. It would seem as the two big favourites (current leaders of Premier League and Bundesliga) have some of the easiest ties, but you never know. Our first leg will be tough already, we've got a huge pile of games sandwiched by City in 2 weeks, and 12 senior players on the treatment table.

Books are not being fair, the odds for us to win EPL and Europa have actually shrunk!

Sparta Praha will be very unhappy with those odds drop too, actually, because it means sportsbooks and even markets no longer see them as strong underdogs.

Liverpool first leg gonna be with graduates rather than Salah I bet. They're way too occupied with the next game versus Manchester City.

What Sparta Prague is crazy. They were big underdogs against Galatasaray, they were few minutes away from reaching draw in Istanbul and now they destroyed them at home 4:1. Galtasaray with such expensive squad getting eliminated so early is big upset
Braga made big comeback against Qarabag, but it wasn't enough as Qarabag survived by scoring goal in extra time.
Now all eyes is on Feyenoord - Roma overtime

Sparta destroys Galatasaray. After Galatasaray destroyed Manchester United.

What does this say about the English team which is the most expensive in the world? This was the stat I read last week. 1+ billion pound squad, lol. They have a new guy saying a lot of things now, repeating Ferguson's famous words about perch lol, but somehow I don't think that's really gonna change anything.

Anyway, see you guys in 2 weeks when the Last 16 games start!!

Yeah, this match is interesting but luck might be on AS Roma side because the second leg match will be played at the Stadio Olimpico this means that it is clear that AS Roma will dominate and do not want to be embarrassed in front of their supporters,  Feyenoord really needs luck if they want to go to the next stage.
Roma and Feyenoord are always balancing in quality last three seasons with five matches totally. Starting with UEFA Conference League final match, to Europa League last two seasons with 4 matches, differences between them are very slim but Roma have won after all in three seasons.

This match is difficult for AS Roma even they hosted it at Olimpico but in general Roma created more opportunities in this match. They lacked of accuracy in their shots to have a winning goal in either 90 minutes or 120 minutes. In penalty shootouts, Mile Svilar made good saves and brought Roma to a next round.

I saw some changes are happening in Roma at their goalkeeper position. Started with last matches under Jose Mourinho, Rui Patricio began to lose his main position to a young goalkeeper Svilar.

Quote
By the way, today AC Milan is playing the second leg against Rennes and AC Milan was 3 goals ahead in the first leg so AC Milan just needs a draw today. Rennes keeps trying to score more goals and they have just scored the 3rd goal but 1 goal lead today won't mean anything at least Rennes must win with a difference of 4 goals unfortunately, that's impossible because there are 20 minutes left in the match.
It will be easy task for AC Milan with great advantage they had from the first leg match and they are strong and experienced enough to avoid a big defeat in the second leg that was what happened.

They lost to Rennes but 2 - 3 is enough for AC Milan to be a winner in an aggregated result. Rennes deserves to have a round of applause but AC Milan deserves to be a final winner.

It's really interesting that the Portuguese teams are so difficult.Benfica has a good performance in the league and the current squad is really strong and capable of fighting with tough opponents.I didn't expect them to struggle so much against Toulouse. They managed to win with Di Maria's goal in the last minutes.I didn't think Toulouse would struggle so much, especially on the road.

Just surprised at your support for them, that's all. Share a bet some time, so we know you got your money where your words are Wink

Toulose? A proper team, just not destined to go far, I feel. Loads of proper teams at this stage, just lacking the more cynical side needed of champions (game management, defensive dark arts, shithousery haha).

Anyway, they're still scoreless at the break, but do we need to talk about Milan..? Sure they had the 3 goal advantage but plenty of time for Rennes to score two more goals... and they almost look it.
I don't support Benfica, but it was interesting that they had such a difficult win against a team like Toulouse. Maybe if they had scored a goal they would have had a chance to go through.Wouldn't it be funny to think that Benfica, despite having such good and valuable players, lost to a team that almost got relegated in the French league?
I don't think Benfica can go far with this game, I think the team that struggled against Toulouse will struggle even more against their future opponents.

Like you rightly said, the most interesting fixture in the UEFA Europa League competition this week for me was the game between Feyenoord and Italian Serie A club AS Roma but unfortunately for me the game didn't produce as many goals as I thought it was gonna produce.

I think we've not reached the most interesting stages of the Europa League and that I think will start after the current knockout stage is completed.

The most interesting match so far is Rennes and Milan. 60 minutes played and the score is 2-2. Rennes are playing well at home, but there are big doubts that they will be able to score three more goals to play extra time. Milan have a good advantage and shows their serious intentions in the Europa League this season.

Portugal has great football but so does Turkey and yet those two never really get it super far in big competitions, wonder why.

Money.

Turkish teams I don't really know but Portuguese teams rake in a lot of money from player sales, look at how so many Benfica or Porto players got transferred, one single player is worth more than entire budget of half teams in La Liga.

Or maybe, because they just want profits, they don't care how far they go? Green balance book is what you're saying here? Smiley

The Europa League is definitely full of surprises.  Grin  I have no idea how Qarabag managed to destroy Braga by 4-2 in an away match. I mean even if it was a home match I would have still been shocked with the score. Because technically there is a huge power gap between these teams, right? One wouldn't expect this kind of a score as a result.

Because of not being able to trust many of those matches yesterday I just preferred betting on Galatasaray and Milan to win. Galatasaray made me really worried but Icardi relieved me with the late winning goal.  Smiley  When it comes to Milan it was too easy for them. Even easier than I imagined.
Yes, you are right, EL is one of the most unpredictable tournaments, I hardly follow it, but I was interested in the confrontation between Feenoord and Roma, mostly because I am interested in how De Rossi will cope as head coach. Overall the match turned out to be good, I think they should be happy with this draw in the away match. By the way, Benfica was also surprised, they needed two penalties to beat Toulouse, it looks like it’s too doubtful.

Whoa Slam, you spotted Toulose, a bet worthy of consideration for me usually, completely forgot we had playoffs. Icardi saving Gala at the death and no surrises yet, do I hope you snag Toulose. Portuguese teams are scary these past few seasons though. Find it hard to bet against them if you watch them play.

Tough call, execijutiere. You Swiss?

Chose the wrong Portuguese team to lose, but Tou didn't even deserve to win, their only goal was from their only shot, they wanted the draw and almost got it, that wouldn't have done anything for my bet.

So I know it looks like Benfica stole it with 2 penalties but their match stats prove they tried to win anyway.

Young Boys normally have no chance against Sporting Lisbon for the round but a home win could change things. That's why today's game is important.Lisbon might not care about this game because being champions in the league will be more important for them. That's why I don't think they will be able to get a win in this match, I think they will rotate some of their players and not play them.Young Boys can take advantage of this and win and if they get a possible draw away, they can be the team that will pass the round.I can say that everything depends on winning the match they will play today. If they want to pass the round, they need to defeat their opponents at home today.
Sporting Lisbon will probably prioritize their domestic league campaign, but the players have desire to perform in European competition. The significance of the game cannot be overlooked for Young Boys, who have a real opportunity to turn the tide in their favor with a strong performance at home. Sporting Lisbon's potential rotation of players could indeed impact their lineup, but they have a better squad capable of maintaining a high level of performance. But I think every player is likely to be motivated and eager to prove themselves on the European stage.

Sporting Lisbon's position as group leaders may actually work in their favor that allows them to approach the game with confidence and freedom. While they may not be under as much pressure to secure a result as Young Boys, they will still be determined to maintain their momentum and secure a positive outcome. Young Boys have only montentum at home for their aspirations in the competition. While a win today would certainly bolster their chances of progression, it's not the sole determining factor.
