In fact, Ethereum has a lot of competitors, but many of them are simply not able to compete with it, because they simply do not have enough strength, resources and money. And the one who has already started the war is EOS

I would choose litecoin for a more mainstream approach or Cardano, even though the latter is more recent and has shown less reliability, it is still a great option.
According to me NEO and LITECOIN is main competitor of Etherum. Etherum is also a strong coin after bitcoin but NEO & LITECOIN also gives fight.
many will target Ethereum's current position and the most likely are XRP, EOS, ADA and also NANO with increasing sales volume and market conditions.
Maybe QuarkChain or PChain will be main Ethereum competitors because they are faster, smart-contracts compatible but in testnet stage now only, mainnets are planned in the end of 2019.
The most possible Ethereum competitor is Blockchain Credits,because it has more facilities than Ethereum and there is a faster transactions than Ethereum.
But overall, Blockchain Credits are a bad cryptocurrency, just average and hard to compare with ETH.The direct competitor to ETH right now is NEO. NEO is a strong coin and good platform like ETH. Therefore, NEO is being evaluated at par with ETH at this time

For me XRP is the most possible and soon competitor of ETHEREUM cause its speeder than etehereum and have a low fee
I think Ethereum is quiet good in 2nd place after Btc. And there is very less chance any altcoins surprassing Ethereum in near future. Though according to me the best competitor of Ethereum is Neo. Though it may not overtake Ethereum ever but everything can happen.

Today, Ethereum platform becomes more popular. I think it's hard for other Altcoin beat the Ethereum's popularity.
But I do believe there are many Altcoin which has the same quality with Ethereum such as NEO platform and Waves Platform.
I think the ripple is the strongest competitor to ethereum. Ripple has designed a payment system like Blockchain. Ripple technology allows customers to transfer money in real time and instantly.

Probably, cardano and EOS, I think there are previous members of ethereum working on the teams of those projects, so a lot of innovation could be expected from those two.
The largest competitive project is NEO. This project also has very good technical parameters, in many ways even better than the Ethereum. In addition, China is behind this project.
From a technology standpoint, It's obviously Cardano (ADA) that has the biggest potential, but it still needs to mature and demonstrate it's more interesting ideas.

I agree with you, but in terms of price Cardano (ADA) is still too far away. Maybe in the future everything can happen. I think WAVES is not too significant even though many projects use WAVES but there are not too many enthusiasts The team is stellar, though.
Eos? I suppose that Eos is too able for this competition and maybe it will even beat Eth at once. It is the raising alternative crytpocurrency and it has potential.
in my opinion there are not many to compete with ethereum and i think zill and Quarkchain are the main competitors. Sparkster has a chance to surpass ethereum but they do different things.
No one has the slightest chance to surpass Ethereum. It will take a very long time to take second place, and when someone who can get around it, it will be a completely different story about other tokens. My opinion is that the competitors of Ethereum are WAVES and NEO, they really have the potential for much development. Ethereum is still in the lead. 
If I think ethereum's best competitor for now is neo,because I'm sure neo has bright potential in the future,
the most important thing is we just follow the progress so that it is clearer
