in my opinion there are not many to compete with ethereum and i think zill and Quarkchain are the main competitors. Sparkster has a chance to surpass ethereum but they do different things.
My opinion is that the competitors of Ethereum are WAVES and NEO, they really have the potential for much development. Ethereum is still in the lead. 
I don't believe NEO, EOS and the most hyped ones having a better proposition.
Holochain is really innovative and I think it is ahead in the game with sharding. I guess they will deliver it and scale faster than ethereum.

For the moment I do not see an altcoin that could be competitor to ethereum. But if they are developed, eos, neo, xlm might be competing.
According to me Litecoin can be a competitor to ethereum, it may give a tough competition to ethereum in future.
I think that at this time there is no coin that can compete with ETH, but in the future there is nothing that can not happen.
The mose competetive alternative cryptocurrency for Eth is Eos I think, they have qutie similar trends from my point of view that make them really strong.
a lot of people said EOS but i think stellar can be ETH's competitor. Since it is old coin, Stellar is coin that still stable until now, i mean it is not pumped dumped and then die in market. until now developer still manage it too
Ethereum is also a competitor crypto currency to the number 1 coin and it is competing against bitcoin so i guess altcoins are not aiming to surpass ethereum but bitcoin. Even though they've got good technology and features. Bitcoin is the pioneer and no one can beat it's popularity in terms in acceptance as payment.
the list on coinmarketcap gives us a good sign that there will be new competitors for each coin and not just for ethereum. and for the list of competitors, only bitcoin is more expensive than ethereum but litecoin has the opportunity to be expensive too.
I think only NEO can be a worthy competitor to the ethereum.

I believe there are two coin can compete with ethereum. One of them neo which it created own are into crypto. other one is waves. waves is great project and they know what they doing.

ok, let's see... as for me, i consider ripple, iota and litecoin. i can't say whether they remain the way they are now, but they are ptomising at least
The best ethereum competitor that I can think of does not ripple ut litecoin, although ripple has a higher market capitalization the transaction volume of litecoin is increasing and that too at an increasing rate when that happens litecoin will replace ripple in market cap and compete with ethereum
I think EOS will be Ethereum's biggest competitor. If EOS can achieve what it says, then I believe it will go beyond Ethereum. With a strong competition, the industry will develop faster. I think this is a very good phenomenon.
