In the long term, the chance that all your altcoins will cease to exist at times more, but they can bring much more profit.
Is this question based off overall performance or near future performances? Bitcoin will lead in the multiplication factor for overall performance. At one point Bitcoin was worth almost nothing. Since we have seen 1000 X's returns with Bitcoin. I do not predict any coins to ever reach those kinds of returns. But I also do not see BTC climbing much further than 40k usd. Other newer coins do have a chance at those kinds of gains. So future performance I think Bitcoin will loose, but overall without it the altcoins are useless, for trade value that is, as you trade for either BTC OR ETH OR USDT

I think you should consider bitcoin as safe house as it can save you from all the losses all the time. So see the Bitcoin always gains more weightage when it comes to buying which coins? The bitcoin shovel be invested more than 30% of your total investment into the crypto currency. I usually only buy Bitcoin but if there are any projects which are new and taking heads up then its always great to get them on board. For example, REMME coin is their, IOST, SCL, JNT etc.
These are some of the newly formed coins which I am currently holding. You may wanna refer them from the CMC for more info.
Investment is always dependent on our choices of coins we have for investment. Crypto to ALT COINS can't be compared it may have a lot of simelarity but still it is on the investors choices. Bitcoin price may go up and down but the price value of ALT COINS may goes ups in different way as to Botcoin.
so is tantamount to supporting the progress of future coins to earn larger profits.

I can prefer to you the bitcoin it is good for the long term to hold and probably it gives more profit because bitcoin has a small quantity in the market so there is possibility to increase the price rapidly anytime in the market much better in bitcoin.
Bitcoin ofcourse, Bitcoin is one of the best currency now, specially bitcoin is really cheap nowadays, Bitcoin is on dump now. That's why I am really watching Bitcoin, for every dip of Bitcoin I always buying, so no worries in Bitcoin. Most of altcoins nowadays are really scam.
I would prefer doing both, actually, I am holding Bitcoin in my wallet for over 5 months now and will continue to hold it for long-term. To be honest and without bias, I think that alt coins have it better than bitcoins. This is because alt coins have a lot of tokens to choose from and every one of them have different features that are just as capable or let alone, better than bitcoins, in that aspect. Given enough money, I'd buy a lot of alt coins and minimal bitcoins. I just think there's no more room for bitcoins to grow in its current state.

you can buy Ethereum and hold for some time. but to me I would have ask you invest in up coming ico's that will give you a better chance make more profits
of course the better is to buy Bitcoin, because in my opinion investing in Bitcoin is more profitable and safer, it is because the price of Bitcoin always increases faster than the price of altcoin.

My advice: Buy ETH on the level 200-220. Buy bitcoin on the level 5100 (not higher). Forget about other altcoins.
Ethereum will be as a silver on time of market boom and it will be growing at a much higher rate than bitcoin because of its utility application to many different projects.
I would say both are good way of investment.
BTC - a strong and stable coin. if the price drops, it will rise again after some time.
Altcoin - is more profitable than BTC. just make sure that you invest in the right one.

Well I think you just need to look for the market trend well. This may lead you to have an idea in which coin you are going to choose. In my opinion you the best thing to do regarding your investment is to divide with different choices.
big risk always brings big profits. Of course you can lose money. If you look at the graphics over the years. btc always behaves before the bull runs. but at the same time, altcoins are really cheap now. I see a great opportunity. I'd put my money on the altcoins in your place. but long-term need to think.

I recommend you to buy bitcoin by buying bitcoin means you're contributing to the growth of its price and on the other hand can increase the popularity of the entire cryptocurrency. Bitcoin's a perfect and effective choice because he's the only best coin for us to make assets. For altcoins, today there are still many people who are confused about the variants. I believe there are among them who have high potential, however the potential's easy to disappear quickly and this is very different from bitcoin.
It depend on the amount you are investing, because i feel if you are able to buy nothing less than 1BTC, then you might consider getting the bitcoin to your portflio. Even at that, i think you can try considering investor into some good coins, because when you buy a coin that has a low price and you are able to gte so many units, then you will get more profit in there than buying even 5 btc. Although, bitcoin is a well established coin.
If you are looking at long term return, you should invest in bitcoin, bitcoin does well in the long term. Altcoin investment however will be good on a short term basis. Once you are clear about your objectives, then you should be able to reach your goals!
I am a fan of both altcoins and bitcoin. Bitcoin is a great investment but its price is so high so I preferred to invest also in altcoins which had a lower price.
