Well for me, I commonly sell my coins if there are times im in need but the main reason I sell my coins is dependent to the market situation. If I think bearish trend will come and my bas lower potential then I will sell it to cut off losses.

I usually set targets when I make an investment as to what I want to get out of it the other end. If I have hit my targets then I will cash in without thinking twice. I will also selll if I think a coin is going to irreversably tank and never recover it is importnat to preserve capital at the right times also.

It depends on the situations. I sell out some of my coins when i need it badly for fiat purposes and daily needs. Some of it hold them if i think that it will pump someday. Some i directly sell it because it will dump forever.

Usually I sell my coin in panic time. This is one of my way in preventing larger losses. I just cut it off early so I can easily find comeback if the market will recover. Sometimes selling in panic time is way convenient.
I sell my token from bounty because I think that token from ICO will not last forever. I usually wait until the price higher especially coin that potential. But, if it doesn't potential at all, I will sell immediately and change it to ETH.
I sell my coins to earn profit of course. Well, I think we are also the same. I hold my coins for long term especially now that the value the coins are not that high. However, due to some financial problems I tend to sell some of my coins when I desperately need it. Still, I am waiting for the time when I can sell my coins at a good price.
