ETH will not be overtaking BTC anytime soon, not until it becomes more commercially viable.
As for me I was thinking about this to and from what I see Ether is performing way much better than Bitcoin, Because everybody see bitcoin and lose their trust in it, and here we have our Ethereum, which is much better and more fresh.
The cryptocurrency market as whole is psychologically entwined with Bitcoin. When Bitcoin plummets, the market plummets, although we’ve seen signs of change in the last few weeks. In 2018, I predict that Ethereum (or another platform) will surpass Bitcoin
I think that Ethereum will have better development in the future, but the gap with Bitcoin is still very large. This year it cannot surpass it, but I believe that the future of Ethereum is beyond the possibility of Ethereum, and I hope it can get better and better.
In my opinion it's hard now to guess who's the winner of this year because were in the middle of the year. Both is affected when the market is down and up we can see the result when it end of the year.
I think in the near future we will see the growth of the Ethereum, so now is a pretty good time to buy a coin. Ethereum is a stable coin, so you can expect 1000 by the new year. And of course, we will wait for Vitalik Buterin's promises to be made on the Ethereum. If everything is fine, this will very well affect its price in the future.
BTC is still the winner of the year because, BTC is already high enough that it is very difficult for ETH to beat BTC in the near future, I think ETH still takes a very long time.

I will place my bet on bitcoin, the lightening network which will encourage mass adoption of bitcoin has seen massive growth in last couple of months, and should institutional funds start pouring in, I think the first choice will be bitcoin. ETH is not doing badly though.
At the end of the year it will be seen, but Etherium is not yet ready to make such a breakthrough. This option is possible in years 2-3 years.
For now I think Bitcoint remains the top among the other coints, until now ethereum can not compete with bitcoint, but for the next few years we do not know yet, because it can not be predicted
We cant just compared now since we still have several months to the end of the year but am certain bitcoin will be the winner..
the two bitcoins and ethereum are fighting in 2018 they have moved in spite of the fact that their prices are not perfect yet the values they bring us are wonderful they deserve coin win of this year

Recently, I was thinkig. Is there really any reason for the BTC to be the market leader? The only thing that is giving the value to BTC is pretty much the fact, that it was the first crypto currency. It is the grandfather of all cryptos. But we know it has its flaws... It was never designed for broad usage, it has scaling issues and so on.
On the other hand, we were given ETH. The Crypto Kitties or w/e the awesome internet meme ETH appliction is called showed us, that ETH network has issues with high amounts of usage. BUT, 90% of all altcoins are based on the ERC-20 standard, brought to us by ETH. The smart contracts using the Solidity are extremly good piece of technolgy.
So my question is. Do you think, that BTC will keep its leadership, or will ETH be the winner of this year and surpass its ancestor?

Sure thing Bitcoin will keep his leading position, as it is the trend setter for 98% of coins on the market.
Needless to say that you must have bitcoin to be able to buy some particular altcoins.
Ethereum is not bad at all, i really like this asset too and i believe that there will be some great changes in the ecosystem of ETH in 2018, but i don't believe that ETH can overpass bitcoin, at least in the near future.
We have to wait until the end of the year to say with certainty who the winner is,I think bitcoin.
You have answered the question yourself. Or have you asked your self why dollars is the standard universal accepted currency even in countries they are at war with? despite all other currency doing better than dollars its still the one accepted in different places just a standard is a standard .
I believe with BTC coins because currently the price of bitcoin is still decreasing and not yet rising therefore I am sure the winner of this year's coin is Bitcoin while for Ethereum now also go up and because I know if the price of Ethereum decreases the price of bitcoin and altcoin will go up and can returns well at the end of the year

Yes, Bitcoin is very low in price now and it cannot go below 5000$. I think soon we will see full bullish market and it will be the time when we shall see new heights of bitcoins. This time everyone is hope full that bitcoin will cross 50K by the end of this year.

As for me it is quite hard to say for sure because they are both strongly damaged after big dump in the firth quarter of 2018. But now Ethereum seems to be more perspective. Somebody even wait for ETH to be miner 1 the next year.
Bitcoin will still remain number 1 and Ethereum will still next to it. And we all be the winner if we invest to both of them until the end of this year because it will going to set an all time high again.
