Guys, anyone has an idea which card issuer does wirex use for cards? Visa has terminated its agreement with Wavecrest and my last card from Shift is unstable after the email about closing cards in April.

That's who they work with. I've never heard of them before. As far as I know they don't work with any other crypto company. They signed a three year deal with Wirex. They have a separate deal for the US with a joint named i2c who I've never heard of either.

The fact that their deal is unique might make it more resilient. I get the impression Wavecrest didn't give a shit who turned up at their door.

Hmm, I've never even heard of these companies before.

I also tried to get some answers from the telegram group but all the scam accusations there are very unnerving. The only responses I get are canned responses or 'I'll chase that up with the team'. It is so frustrating.

I just wanted to know if Contis is the one that deals with the money that you deposit into your account or if it is another company or bank? Is the money really safe?

I had some bad experience with epassporte when I had something like 104$ on it, tried to withdraw 100$ equivalent, the atm told me not enough funds and I got charged 2$, not that big sum but could get annoying.

Not let me see how this works with Wirex if I'm in Hungary or Romania.
I do a transaction, they charge me €2.00, the bank charges another fee (Huh) and then there is a forex shave on top of that?

Judging by your post history you're from Romania, so a quick example taking into account the 4.75 rates(?), if I have 100 euros it's safe to say I'm not getting more than 450 out of the ATM? Or not even that?

I've withdrew only 2 or 3 times in Romania from Wirex. About one year ago. And I've done some 5 other attempts in which I didn't withdraw.
In those 5 attempts the bank tried to do the exchange for me at an awful exchange rate, so, "thanks, but no".
One bank's ATMs allowed me to get Wirex exchange rate (allowed to select if ATMs bank or Card's bank does the exchange) which looked better, but back then I don't know for sure if I knew about the extra fx fees, which were not displayed as good as today.
I had to pay only Wirex ATM fee and Wirex fx fee.

In Greece, as I said, I withdrew EUR a few times at Wirex fee, then, at same bank's ATM, the bank attempted to charge extra. Then I've checked a few other banks ATMs (in one mall) and all were charging extra.

At least the ATMs started showing more clearly what they charge. The Wirex fee is clearly there charged extra, that's for sure.
Unfortunately I don't have more accurate info because I don't spend lately as much Bitcoin as I did in the first months of last year.

Edit: fixed/made it clearer

There'll be an FX fee plus their usual ATM fee. It's possible the bank fee will be on top but it'll depend on the bank and the country. In the US I've never found a free ATM and it was sometimes up to $5 extra. In much of Europe it was nothing.

All the problems I've got with the current Wirex card were small. There are some 2-3 shops that don't accept the card. So you better always have one more working card with you.
Another bad surprise was with an ATM. After about 3 or 4 withdraws at "only" Wirex fee (EURO ATM), the bank added one extra fee on top of that (luckily displayed by the ATM). However, withdrawing from Wirex card is not a good business. Spending in Europe is, on the other hand, Okay.

If your local currency is not EUR / GBP you'll have Forex fee added separately. Wirex writes you've spent 7 EUR, but you'll see in the details of the transaction 1 EUR extra for fees and actually 8 EUR missing (not too obvious).

Not planning on doing any withdrawals for cash but let's just say I would find myself in this situation in a non-euro country.

@Wirex,

Is there any possibility to have an instant conversion from crypto to fiat (like the old xapo and coinsbank, former bit-x)?

Also especially at the gas stations, especially in week-ends, you may get more money reserved for the purchase than the normal cost, but that usually normalizes during the next week.

I've never had any type of prepaid card work for fuel. For some reason they always fail. I had the same with non crypto USD and EUR cards in the past as well. It's more than a little inconvenient.

Because the gas stations charge your card not only for the petrol but it also takes collateral (equivalent to the amount you're buying). And because these cards are considered as a prepaid card, they can't take the collateral and so accept the card. That's the same when you rent a car or pay for the hostel. It's not only the prepaid cards, but it's also the same with the cheap Visa banks give you.

I've read the topic a few times before ordering, a few times while I was waiting but it has been a bit dead since last year so anyone here with a card, any feedback on what issues can appear with it? I know the part of not leaving BTC there Grin Grin Grin

I've never had any issues with actual usage. It's the only crypto debit card that's worked everywhere I've tried it. The others were Wavecrest cards and they crapped out in quite a few places.

Logging in can sometimes be problematic. If you try to bypass that by resetting the password the link through email gets very confused between the app and the website. Once you take the spread into account and the monthly fee it's not cheap. Overall I'm happy with it and I'll make occasional use of it until it dies. Which could well be any second.

Got my wirex card today.

It took about 7 days, got a tiny parcel in the mail (good that I spotted it and didn't throw it along with some pizza and Lidl offers) activated the card and now....I'm wondering....
I only plan to use this as some sort of exchange BTC for products without resorting to cash withdrawals from a major exchange, which I only do when bigger sums are involved not a few tens or hundred euros.

Is there alternative good crypto debit card service except for Wirex? It looks like these guys don't accept any application from Asian countries and I am left only with Revolut account. Revolut metal card had a monthly 10$ fee and they offer atm withdrawal without paying any fees. ANy suggestions are welcome.

There are very few left. I can't think of anywhere that covers Asia.

Revolut has nothing to do with crypto other than the ability to park money in it. You can't withdraw or deposit crytpo with it.

This is the most comprehensive list = https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1DRbTeMCzb4UeXI0YlAzBxMc2u2i0cN_17Ql6eMngK6E/edit#gid=0

Well, whaddya know. That's improved my life.

I'm glad to hear that.

I didn't find the original set up all that intuitive either.

I prefer the lists stay vertical and I miss the fact I could exchange from any currency to another no matter from which view I tried. And the fact that the topmost amount shown (total balance) is not the amount I can spend is just silly. The only good thing now is the option to hide the shitcoins. Still, I find the current interface much worse than the previous.

Thinking about all the apps I use most regularly I genuinely cannot think of a single one that improves over time in terms of functionality and intuitiveness. They all seem to gradually strip things away rather than tune them and I don't think that's me being curmudgeonly.

I've got a nice surprise from my main banking card app (not wirex). They finally noticed that they can also notify my phone when funds from my card are spent. So yeah, some have started far behind they still improve  Cheesy
On another hand this same feature @ Wirex was lagging last time I used their card.

Imho it's less intuitive. Yes, it can be learned, but it doesn't change the fact the wallet now shows the funds from all the cards first (including my closed cards) and it also doesn't change the fact I have now to go to the Bitcoin wallet to change into Euro, I cannot do that anymore from the Euro view.

And about hiding the shitcoins, did you try preferences->accounts? I've hidden all those coins. The feature is there just.. less intuitive  Cheesy

It doesn't seem any better or worse than the previous one, perhaps a bit less intuitive but that can be figured out in a few minutes.

I really wish they gave you the option to hide the shitcoins. That takes up space in my mind that isn't welcome. I have no plans to add Wollo or whatever the fuck it is to my life so I don't want it licking my face every time I'm in there.

I'm using Wirex wallet like one year and I'm really satisfied with it. It's the only SW wallet I ever tried and I have no reason to change that.

But... I'm kinda indecisive because I don't know what to think about the new redesign. What do you think guys? For me it seems much less organized and intuitive.

Let me know your thoughts about this major update. Have a nice day crypto freaks!

Does support on wirex exist? I'm waiting 5 days for an answer, but still nothing. Getting an error "something went wrong" when i try to login...

Check the footer of their website and join their telegram. You should receive a faster response there. If not from the staff, from the community who have a similar issue.
