Another rumor is, after that Abueva trade, Matthew Wright now asking for a trade.

What could potentially happen to the Phoenix then? They'll be a team like the Blackwater and  DYIP where are always at the bottom. If that rumor is true then I guess Abueva was blessed he was traded to a team with the capability to pay a good salary for their players.

If this true then expect that instead of getting a good competitive position in this incoming season Phoenix will struggle, if their main superstar is no longer happy with what the management did after trading abueva, it will affect the entire game play. It's not healthy to the team if your leading scorer is no longer in good rhytm, he knows how big abueva's help to get the team to a good position, they are more competitive after abueva's arrival in the last bubble.

Might be a frustrated Matthew Wright to expect if ever the ask trade won't happened for him, PBA have a lots of surprises we don't know what would happened along the way while waiting for this new season..

Looks like the rumor is true, another Phoenix player has not yet signed by the team, and we know this player can contribute to the team.

Brian Heruela plays waiting game as he has yet to be signed by Phoenix

Oops... another great player that was not sign yet, I think there are teams that will be interested with him, with his kind of hustle in floor, I guess he will help a team to improve more on their defense, he can be useful with the Ginebra San Miguel, that if they still have some space to sign him.

I hope the team is not in serious financial trouble, we don't want to see this kind of talents getting wasted.

I have a question guys, in your opinion which team will benefit more on this trade?

Win-win situation.

Phoenix
- In return, they got a good offer, not just by acquiring Banchero but a 6th 1st round pick and another one on the 2nd round. Draft 1st-10th pick in a first-round is a valuable pick so hopefully, they can land a good rookie so Phoenix just has to be wise picking a good rookie.

Magnolia
- we are all aware that Magnolia isn't the Magnolia before due to some of their key players now showing signs of slow down or now past their primes. With the arrival of Abueva, they can now back again on the top. There will be no problem with the chemistry as you guys aware of the Pinatubo trio.

Can you guys wonder how this trade becomes possible after Phoenix already signed a 3-year extension contract to Abueva? This just shows that there are no other team owners aside from SMC and MVP groups that can shine in the PBA and ability to build a super team, due to financial capability. Abueva on the other hand is happy with the trade.

There are rumors that Phoenix is cutting their operational cost. The team is said to be in financial concerns as they only maintain 8 players and 3 coaching staff members. The team has no plan of re-signing Alex Mallari, that now decides to stay in Hawaii. Another reason is swab testing every 14 days is so expensive.

Another rumor is, after that Abueva trade, Matthew Wright now asking for a trade.

Biggest news in the PBA by far, and I think there's no bigger news that this.

Phoenix has become a better team when Abueva came back from long suspension and now they traded him to Magnolia, what a waste of talent, it looks like Phoenix doesn't want to win, or they have other reason that we don't know, but one thing I'm certain, this will make Magnolia a great team to watch.

Imagine, Calvin loves to drive the ball and Paul Lee does not need to carry the load so hard anymore. They are not big enough but Sanggalang and Calvin Abueva's aggressiveness will make them a big threat against all teams in the PBA, including SMB and BGSM.

I may be the first one to bring this news here  Wink.

I don't see this coming as i think that Calvin Abueva have already found a home in Phoenix but i'm wrong.

Seems to me that Magnolia is dead serious on capturing a All-Filipino title very soon.

https://www.spin.ph/basketball/pba/calvin-abueva-traded-by-phoenix-to-magnolia-for-banchero-draft-picks-a793-20210217?ref=home_featured_big

I don't get why Phoenix traded him, they just threw away a gem, I don't know maybe he still has the attitude?

I guess this is the time that I believe Magnolia will become a championship contender, they are now a better as a defensive team, honestly, I think they are now better than the SMB teams.

Really surprising! I saw some post from a friend from facebook a picture of abueva and Sanggalang together wearing stags uniform. It never came to my mind that they will be seen again with the same uniform, not sure what Phoenix is thinking for trading him' as we know what impact he brought out from the last bubble.

But knowing what really influenced this league, is no longer your sincerity to play but the right amount of money that will offer to you and the secureness of your career while you are still in active and playable status.

Letting him for Banchero and a draft pick is truly a gamble for phoenix, not sure if still the attitude or something behind,
lets see if this trade is for the best interest of both side, looking forward to see the hotshot competing back for the title,
really an exciting season to come.

Phoenix needs a good point guard and I believe Banchero is playing the point guard position and if Banchero will be effective with Phoenix, that would lessened the load of Wright, I guess that's their plan, their big 3 (Banchero, Wright, and Perskins) will blend well with a good PG.

WHAT!?Huh??

This news is really surprising, we didn't see it coming, the player that was rumored to be traded is Manuel but what the hell happened?
Banchero was struggling with Magnolia so it's understandable that the team wants to trade him, but Calvin just give the best of him during the bubble and he was even one of the candidate for MVP iirc.

Maybe the management are already tired for making an experiment, so they get back their old coach to once again lead the team.

Agree, I thought Reyes was officially retired but he is back. However, I don't want to hype his return because this is an entire different team than he managed before, and this is what coach Chot said in an interview.

TNT coach Chot Reyes says competition in PBA tougher than ever

That same words will difinitely bring this team to another level, remember way back when he still coaching this super team, the management will surely back him up with good sets people.

Chances that adding new role and star players will be there knowing how close coach Chot to the Pangilinan,
he'll get whatever he needs to bring those old glory days of this franchise.

Chot Reyes just same with Tim Cone the management will provide if there's a need or demands from him.

Bong Ravena: TNT looking to become better defensive team with new signings

Quote
TNT’s desire to improve its defense prompted the Tropang Giga to sign Glenn Khobuntin, Dave Marcelo, and Ping Exciminiano for the 2021 PBA season.

These are known to be defensive players, and hopefully with a new coach they will be utilize wisely.
Having coach Chot back to TNT and the team shall be one of the strongest teams to come back. The PBA website should also update the rosters and changes to have in their list of teams. I'm searching for updates there and it's not published about coach Chot Reyes' back to TNT as head coach.
The list of the roster for the teams there isn't updated yet but I guess they'll do it once the season starts.

PBA website is not like the NBA website where they do a timely update of the information, sometimes other sites have even more news about PBA than its official website, Spin.ph is mostly what we are using here, right?

Yes, coach chot should be a big help to the team, his experience would hep to improve the TNT.

Maybe the management are already tired for making an experiment, so they get back their old coach to once again lead the team.

More about Kai Sotto.

https://www.spin.ph/basketball/fiba/let-kai-sotto-achieve-nba-dream-without-adults-getting-in-the-way-a2244-20210215?ref=home_featured_4

This article is worth reading if you want to know how people have mismanaged Kai for their own interest. Damn, i pitied the kid more upon reading this.

Quote
It is a bad omen when a coach refuses to vouch for a player and plays Pontious Pilate instead by washing his hands on the issue before turning it over to a higher power.

"That's something that will be determined by the people that are above my pay grade," Ignite coach Brian Shaw replied when asked about Kai's fate after the kid's botched attempt to play for the Philippine national team.

I'm not being pessimistic, just realistic.

Look, if everything were fine and dandy, Shaw would've said something that sounds like this: "We're glad he's on his way to the bubble and we can't wait for him to get back to work."

But nah, Shaw was curt, dismissive.

Reading the article, it's just that schedule gone wrong and Kai Sotto will be probably wasting time here in the country instead following his timeline. Doha had to cancel the games due to the pandemic in the Middle East. SBP itself are fine with Kai to pursue his career in NBA G League for now as schedule wasn't fixed yet.
NBA G League I believe is his key towards playing in the NBA, that's his ultimate dream, therefore it's his priority. Honestly, I don't follow the schedule for the FIBA Asia games if this is what we are talking about because I think the roster are not coming from PBA mostly and I don't know the players outside the PBA.

Yes, that was his priority and you are right there. But reading some comments e.g social media, others are misinformed and think that Kai Sotto leaves because he doesn't want to play for the country which is actually not the case.

As I mentioned, the FIBA schedule gone wrong so Kai needs to go back as the schedule will be a conflict with his G League tenure. As of today, there's still no progress about the FIBA schedule so it's a good decision to go back to the US instead of waiting for nothing here.

Honestly, I feel bad for Kai Sotto as everyone is putting hopes for him to play on the country. He is still in the process. Surely he can't focus on his dream with some people pressuring him to play to avoid being criticized by the local community. https://www.rappler.com/sports/nba/what-is-next-g-league-ignite-select-team-returnee-kai-sotto

That has really been their problem based on my observation, TNT vs BGSM, you know who will win, of course the defensive team. I hope they would really improve defensively and that is going to be seen when the regular season starts. Their consultant was a fan or 3 point shooting that's why TNT was too focus on outside shooting and forget to make good plays in big games like playoffs and finals where games are more offensive.

It's really hard to win without much defense, it's needed to have a good balance between your offensive attacks and your defensive
strategy. Having both brings good outcome, adjustment from the players and how coaches will handle everything.

The former coach seems to forget about dealing with all the factors not just the outside shots but also to take care of additional plays if calls is needed the players to execute.

Now that Chot Reyes is back, expect TNT / Pangilinan group to be more competitive and aggressive in winning another title.

The former is taller and more agile than our own Kai but look at how Tacko's career, he goes back and forth between the NBA and G-league as he lacks what is expected of him, that alone can give us how Kai will end up, it hurts but that is the reality.

You have a point @bisdak40 , this is really true, Tacko was hype during the preseason but I'm not seeing him anymore now in the Celtics line up, tall guys with thin body has a little future in NBA, Kai Sotto should work on his body, maybe be like Kristaps Porziņģis.

I don't know but I guess the most successful big man that we can consider as really tall is only Yao Ming, that was back in the old days but now I'm not seeing anyone who have the same height that are successful in NBA.

Maybe because the type of plays have already change, it's from a defensive type to an offensive type, teams love to run now so if you are so tall, your mobility is limited, by the way I like to add Boban Marjanović, this guy is really tall and strong but he is not a starting 5 in any teams he played.
