Yes, that's true. But even if the market has been on a downfall, I think that it's a huge opportunity to grab the most prominent coins in the blockchain space today. There are quite a few coins which have outstanding features and technology, that are quite superior than Bitcoin. What Bitcoin has nowadays is first-mover advantage, but in terms of technology and scalability it sucks. In contrast, many altcoins have already scaled and have unique consensus algorithms which make them quick and cheaper than Bitcoin itself.
But as with any investment, it's always recommended to do your own research, as even the most promising coins can turn into a scam in the future, if the development team close shop. In my opinion, altcoins like Litecoin, Dogecoin, Ethereum, NEM, IOTA, Bitshares, and Steem will be here to stay for quite a long time. As such, I'd recommend anyone to invest in these coins since they're always active in development (except for Dogecoin) and have supportive communities behind them.
