NEW YORK COIN COMMUNITY INITIATIVE - PLEASE VOTE HERE

Does the NYC Community want to implement an automatic 1% donation of all NYC transactions to an FDNY charity fund?

It may be able to be written into upcoming fork code. I will discuss with dev. If not, block explorer can be used to calculate 1% on a monthly basis.

The NYC Community would need to come together and reach into their pockets to donate/pledge enough NYC to make sure we have enough NYC to fulfil this commitment. Max donation pledge total of 1b NYC.

NEW YORK COIN FOUNDATION hereby pledges 250 M NYC for this initiative. We need a total further pledge of 750 M NYC in order to implement this amazing ongoing donation fund to New York's Bravest!

From NYC developer:
User is referring to solo-mining via the getwork interface which was deprecated some time back.
True solo-mining is available still via getblocktemplate (bfgminer supports this with scrypt asic's still); however separate software is required to do stratum mining (this is the traditional pool approach).

Your friendly neighborhood Crypter.
Just downloaded the wallet and testing it right now.  Just waiting for it to fully sync.  Maybe we can get a bootstrap for the wallet, hopefully soon?

Trying the new wallet now.
Stratum mining works but solomining doesnt.
ehm...?

using newyorkcoin.conf as config file

Edit: I guess this is because clone of newer litecoin / bitcoin code , stratum proxy  is needed?

New wallet appears to working well and without issues. I'll do some more testing with send/receive but so far, so good. Synced quickly after finding peers, faster then the old one. Install went smooth over top the old wallet preserving wallet.dat and putting all the bits in the right places. Good job so far...

Hello. May be able to get down to the parade Smiley.

I do like the coin look but when I first saw it, it looked like a Roman type coin with brown colors and font style. NYC is mostly modern with steel/concrete (grey, black etc) with trees here and there. It is sort of hard to relate the colors of this image with NYC. Immediately of course Lady Liberty is obvious but the rest seems conflicting to a visual of NYC. of course though not everyone has been there so this is a thought expressed out loud.

Hoping to recover an old wallet with NYC coin and look forward to the website updates.

The original coin reminds me of a penny. Most likely it's intended ultimate purpose for this coin representing the hustle and bustle of the Big Apple. I honestly believe NYC was created by same person/group as bitcoin. Dev disappeared at launch Mar 6, 2014 (same year Hal Finney died). It was given a much faster 30-second block to enable it's use where bitcoin was simply not practical (everyday small purchases). Original code, github account has never been touched. There was never any response from original dev, original domain name expired and was picked up on godaddy. They created and 100% disappeared. No premine. No shenanigans. NYC has a good story to tell. Check out her upcoming coin design (next couple of weeks) and let me know if it breathes more of a New York essence.

Upgrade to lower block reward of 1,000 NYC and implementing annual Jan 1st
I think this is acceptable, for the number has been mined out, there is no need to change, 100 billion though, but this is not the key, such as: XRP, XLM, Doge, they can have an enviable price The It is important that NYC need more people to agree with it, accept it, develop more applications, and get some more useful improvements from other excellent competitive coins, such as going to the center of the exchange, introducing BT dollars, BTY , BT and so on. On the other hand, it can be like dogecoin, and other coins mining, increase the power. Change POS may not necessarily be a better program, not as good as this time and manpower spent more useful place. Of course, this is just my personal advice.

UPDATE FROM DEVELOPER

Upgrade to lower block reward of 1,000 NYC and implementing annual Jan 1st New Year's halving thereafter will be a very simple, straightforward upgrade.

However, implementing a POS from an original  POW coin is very difficult, very time/labor intense with many potential pitfalls that is beyond the resources available in the NYC community at present.

Okay, here is my 2 cents on this matter, #1 issue to me is, I thought our votes were gonna count for something, or why waste everyone's time. This statement quoted above, is definitely not gonna help this coin. The reason being, Look for instance at HeisenbergHex Coin, max 23 Billion coins, and the halving started way, way earlier in the block chain than this one. Here is a link to compare: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/annhex-heisenberghex-too-many-cooks-spoil-the-broth-un-updated-502589, and you can't give away HeisenbergHex, I've got millions of them and they are listed in several exchanges, if there isn't gonna be any REAL change to this coin, then why waste our time? 100 billion, and just that little change that you suggest, sorry, but, NOT gonna work.

If you need funding and are REALLY gonna make the changes voted for, then speak up and find a way to get it done, tell us the cost, and see what can be done, don't just give up.
Who knows how many of us might chip in? I'm willing, but not without REAL CHANGE.

#2 Whatever you do, just be completely up front and honest with us, and we can make this into something great, otherwise, I've already invested enough time and effort, because it will never amount to a hill of beans. 100 Billion with No Real Changes will not work.

Anyway that you choose to look at this,...... there is only so many things that can be done without losing trust, you can't go backwards and change the total amount of coins to millions, without losing all trust, because Billions have already been mined, that only leaves 2 options...lower the Billions to an amount that hasn't been mined already, which will require the same DEV wallet $ to change the specs, as the amount you say we can't afford, or change to POS specs like everyone is in favor of, according to the vote, and find a way to fund it.

I would rather take my chances on helping to fund it, and make something worth putting some effort into, rather than put a whole lot of effort into something friv·o·lous. "not having any serious purpose or value."
