This fight will be joke for sure. It would look like a battle for grandpas. Pacquiao should move on. It's not about him anymore. If he loves boxing, he can just train upcoming fighters rather than putting up  unsatisfying fights.
The only reason he is still fighting is to get as much as money as possible, he is well past his prime and he is not that focused in his boxing career as he is doing many other things as well and he is making millions with every fight and why not, this is a tight window and let him make as much he wants. I found a good article about the supposedly divorced of Manny and coach Freddie.

https://ph.yahoo.com/sports/freddie-roach-isnt-mad-things-ended-manny-pacquiao-just-disappointed-005848468.html

Freddie was really honest that Manny really changed his life for the better.

Quote
“He made me a better trainer and a better person and of course, I’m a lot more famous now and I’m a lot richer than I was.”

And maybe this is the real reason of their separation.

Quote
“I told him that the way his career is going, being a leader in his country and being a senator and dealing with all the responsibilities that come with that, he might have to give up boxing. Boxing is a very physical sport and a very rough sport and having two jobs like he has is so tough. He’s just always going like crazy.”

Maybe Manny took it personality and was hurt about Freddie's statement. And as far as Manny getting Buboy to train him.

Quote
He said he thinks Fernandez will do a good job for Pacquiao. Fernandez has never worked at a high level, other than as an assistant to Roach, but he’s worked with young fighters in the Philippines. Pacquiao trusts him and that will be important, Roach said.

But this really sad to hear though. Freddie said that he wasn't told that he was fired and he just learned it from the news.

Quote
“If Manny would have called me and told me what he wanted to do, it would have been a perfect ending, but I learned a long time ago life is not perfect,” Roach said. “If there is anything I’m disappointed in about this, obviously, it’s that I had to read it in the newspaper and I didn’t hear it from Manny first. That stings a little, and it’s disappointing, but there are no hard feelings.

Back to the old days on when everytime pacquiao do have an upcoming fight you can really feel the thrill but now the interest is somehow depleted.I dont know for other boxing fans of him but i do feel that way. Manny did able to prove himself already to the world.Im not really much concern or eager that he will win this fight or not.
You have noticed it correctly. Here in our home when he has an upcoming match we are all talking to it all the time but now we are all grown up and it seems to be no talks about it anymore. Time flies so fast and people who used to be an avid fan of him are starting to feel some nerve that he should retire and choose what he really want to. If he wants to be a coach, let him be, if he wants to be a pastor let him be. But for this fight still we are giving him the support that we can.

You're not alone. I guess most of the fans have got tired on watching Pacquiao fights due to various reasons.
This could count from change on religion view, lack of interest (he have other gigs like being a senator) and most importantly, the missing firepower/speed he had in the past.

There's an explanation for that missing firepower of Senator Manny Pacquiao. Remember his fight with Ricky Hatton where he knocked out Hatton on the second round? They were fighting as junior welterweight. After that fight he climbed to different divisions. Going to different division is tough because you will face bigger fighters. Fighters that can stand punches from someone who came from lower division like Manny, but if you bring him back to the division where he was known as the M*****n executioner, then you'll see his firepower is still there. Age may have slowed him down a bit, but its still there.

How about Mayweather vs McGregor? I think that's more of a joke fight than Pacquiao vs Matthysse.

At least with Pacquaio vs Matthysse, it's going to be a exciting fight because if you are a boxing fans, you should know that both of them loves to bangs and have heavy hands. I don't think that Pacquiao will train upcoming fighters as that is not his forte, I'm sure that he can help a lot of upcoming boxers in the Philippines from behind (like financial support and boxing contacts) and I think he has done it already with Filipino boxers as well. And not only that, he is being look upon as inspiration as well, but training fighters? not his cup of tea. What unsatisfying fights have you watch lately with Manny though? He may have lost his speed, but he still give it all. As far as the Jeff Horn fight, we all know who really won that fight.

this match maybe not so interesting such as Pacquiao several years ago when he still being defending champion and when he has several times able to knockout his opponents but i think this match can makes Pacquiao fans satisfied because admitted or not Pacquiao is one of the best boxers that ever existed

Or maybe we can see if Manny Pacquaio has still the drawing power and can bring people on the arena. I also don't think that this is a joke fight just because he is old already and not on his peak. But Manny really loves to fight and for me that's really important because we can see that he will give his 100% every fight whoever is opponent is.

I'm sure like any boxers before him, its really hard to quit boxing because they really love it and no matter what the fans and the public has to say, if they feel that their can still go and can still pull the trigger then why not?

He's one of the best fighter in the world and most of his fights now aren't satisfying as a fan. He needs to retire and he has political career to focus on.

I agree with you, this fight is more of a joke than this fight.

Experience is everything and Pacman is have it but their older age may become the problem.
Nobody expect older boxer will come be as the winner especially when we are all know that boxing is not absolute match so anything can happen.

Though you are almost correct with your statement about choosing to train another fighter for his glory but we knew that Pacquaio really loves to play
whatever his critics will say he will continue and still wanted to show his ability, he doesn't need to compete in terms of what he already achieved and
ever he have right now, but one thing is still sure he wants to fight and he's eager to win for his fans all over the world.

Manny is too old to fight. Don't get me wrong, I love Manny, but he should be retiring and not fighting anymore. He doesn't have it anymore, too much luxury, joining politics, church stuff, etc. He is too preoccupied to even be fighting anyone. He doesn't even train as hard before a fight like he did back then. This will be a clear win for Matthysse, but gambling wise, we'll have to see the odds.

Well Matthysse is 35 yrs old now and Pacquaio is 39 so I think it's not a big deal after all.

Matthysse is a heavy puncher? What about Pacquaio? - Soft puncher?

Matthysse gave a hard fight on his peak? What about Pacquaio? - Hmm so the Pound for Pound king is a joke?

Matthysse is an aggressive fighter? Is that the main course of Pacquaio? - Smiley

Manny is old? Oh so old that he make young and prime Jeff Horn looks like a punching bag.

Stats don't lie but in general , the verdict will happened on the ring on the day of the event. Goodluck to all.

That may be true, but seriously, if he is still holding that Pound for pound king title, he should really be stripped of it. He hasn't knocked out anybody for years now. He has not had a good fight in ages as well. He may still have the quickness and the sharpness to fight, but the problem is the guy is totally pre-occupied! He's even a senator for christ sake! Aren't they supposed to be working all year round? Not only that, he does so much other things aside from boxing that he doesn't train as well as he used to!

The fact is, he doesn't have that hunger he had before. When he was hungry for a victory just to feed himself. Fame and fortune has gotten way into his head and it is showing.

You get it wrong. I don't say that he is still holds the Pound for Pound king today. Im comparing that on the peak days of Matthyse as others say that this boxer gaves hard fight during his peak so how about Pacman during the peak?

At first Im disagree at his desires but you can't see the positive side if you are only looking at the cover. Didn't you know that despite of his busy schedule he is one of the working Senators? And no, it's not about KNOCKING OUT but the outcome he is giving to his opponent. Look at young Jeff Horn's status after the fight with the old Pacman.

And to those people who keeps saying that he must resigned now to boxing, it doesn't making sense. Whatever Pacquaio's decision is none of our business. "We will never understand him because are we a boxer itself?" It's hard to left your passion that raised you on being poor since his childhood days. Those who resigned at boxing are showing bad signs already at their body unlike Pacquiao that thinks he still can. He will stop if he knows he can't fight anymore.

Well said. Thumbsup. Hope this will clears now. And if anyone didn't know, there are still offers for Pacquiao recently to fight Terrence Crawford prior to this Matthysee fight. Imagine how come he can still be a great picks from youngsters? And to add for that, Manny Pacquaio already answered lots of times about a question if when he will hang his gloves. His response, he still can fight and that's it. No more questions.

He have lots of money, lots of businesses, lots of investments, already a boxer hall of famer, achieved lots of records etc. Now what you guys think why he is still fighting up to today? The answer is above and it was clearly nailed.

Believe me when I say this, I am a fan of Pacquiao and I would support him. But the fact of it is that he doesn't do what he used to do back then. He doesn't train like he used to nor has the drive to prepare mentally and physically like before.

He is too pre-occupied in things like being a Senator. I know he is a working Senator mind you and that is exactly the problem with it. He does not have the time to spend for training anymore because he has commitments with other things.

The reason why new commers or youngsters want a shot at Manny is basically for fame and fortune. Think about it, if you were a new rising star boxer would you want to fight someone that is at the same level with potential of improving your ranking or get a shot at fighting a someone like Manny who has difficulties finding time to train but has super star status and will garner you shit tons of money? I think that's a clear and easy choice.

For sure he has that passion, but again, he does not have the time for it anymore. Usually back then when he was only concentrating on boxing he trains all year round and has a heavy training camp 4 to 6 months before a fight. But now, he can't train all year round because of what he is doing and the only time he can get off his work as a Senator is just about 3 months before a fight. This is also true back when he was just a Congressman.

Looks like you missed my point at my recent post.

It's not about the time and being occupied. Just look at it, if time is the main problem then he could stopped anytime. You know it's not important to him if he will lose or win in his match as long as he will give his all since like he said, as long as he knows that his body will not work, then he will stopped. Simple as that.

We fans don't know his status. We are just reading news and stated opinion all we want. If Pacquiao still wants to fight then just let him do it until he finally decided to hang his gloves. We are out of that decision. We don't need to request him to stop boxing anymore because there will be a "thing" that will make him stopped and that "thing" is not coming yet so still he will continue.

Regarding his upcoming fight with Matthysse, it is confirmed by his financial adviser Michael Koncz that he parted ways with International Boxing Hall of Famer Freddie Roach last December 2017 and one of the reason why Manny decided to part ways with Freddie Roach was about his last fight with Jeff Horn. It looks like Freddie Roach said something in the media that Manny didnt like. So this fight with Matthysse the chief trainer will his childhood friend Buboy Fernandez.

So its clear now that Freddie is out of the picture. Well, I guess every good things must come to an end. But knowing Manny, I think they parted amicably and no bad blood between the two as we have heard Manny saying that Freddie is like a second father to him. And good thing that they keep this quiet because we all know how media will spun this one and put words on their mouth specially Roach as we all know that most of the time he blurted things and media will put another meaning on it. Just sad though to see them parting ways.

Trivia: When Manny Pacquiao was knocked out by Juan Manuel Marquez last 2013, the first word/name that comes out of the mouth of Manny when he started to regain consciousness was the name of Buboy.

They are best buddies. But I don't know how good Buboy being a trainer though. Maybe he learn a lot from Freddie and I'm sure that he will still apply those tricks to training Manny for his upcoming fight with Lucas Mattyse.

Well manny pacquiao won't be manny pacquiao without freddy roach. And with how things are going on in his corner, i think its clear that it's not the best decision for pacquiao to continue fighting. The loss to jeff horn should've been a sign that times are different now for the future hall of famer

Right, Roach has made Manny what he is right now, specially during his peak. He's destroying every man he fought under Roach, but probably Roach had seen Manny's best days and he doesn't Manny to continue fighting. Personally, I think that's one reason why they decided to separate.

Manny considers Buboy one of his best friends and his lucky charms. I remember seeing Buboy on a casino about 3-4 years ago, should have take my chances of getting a picture. lol. Anyways, that Manny won and its gonna be interesting to see him fight without Roach at his side for the very first time.

They been together for the long time, and for sure buboy already adopt how freddy roach approach to manny's training, so even we knew that
the trainer really influence manny from how well he became to this industry, sometimes there's things or reason to part ways, maybe freddy
already seen that he's not the old manny and its time to move away but as instinct inside manny still loves to play and regain his thrown.
