MP is an eight division champion so what he really does want? My opinion on this, it's not about the title, it's about the money.
To depend on his belt, well I don't have much idea on boxing career of Sen. Manny Pacquiao I'm not updated on it.

I thought Manny Pacquiao was already resigning from the boxing career because of oldness but it seems he going to fight with Matthysse that younger age than Pacman now. At his age, he may retire now but still, he is going to fight but I think not for only money and reputation he has also his political career. Hopefully many will win this fight on behalf of Filipino citizen I fully supported with MANNY PACQUIAO.

Pacquiao is a hypocrite. Trying to make his image religious but the truth is he's just greedy for money. We've seen his past fights and all of them are terrible. He has slowed and there are many times that he could KO is opponent but because he's old now, it did not gonna happen. I'm sure that he's going to lose this time.
We cant predict that now. Even Pacquiao is a damn old man he can beat young boxers ass. The old man doesn't want to lose of-course.
The old man beat many young boxers who aim his belts and pacquiao doesn't give a f.

Since i am a Filipino i will support senator manny pacquiao and based on the record of lucas i think pacquiao should need to be more careful because lucas is power puncher. 39 wins with 36 ko is very impressive performance. But still i am wishing and praying that pacquiao will win the game.

Is Jeff Horn out of his head? What a complete disrespect for a Boxing Legend like Manny Paquiao he was lucky that he came out alive in the ring. If he really is the "stronger" fighter he must have challenged Pacquiao for a rematch instead of asking him to be in the undercard. Their is no doubt that Pacman's fighting career is on a decline now fighting outside of the U.S.A and his record is not good, he must need to think about a retirement as soon as he can as his health is also on the line, you will never know when it will damage your brain.

The fighting Senator of the Philippines Manny Pacquiao announced that he is fighting this coming June 24 at Malaysia. The possible opponent is Lucas Matthysse the current WBA light welterweight champion.

For those of you who is not familiar with Lucas Matthysse below is his Boxing Record

Total fights - 44
Wins - 39
Wins by KO - 36
Losses - 4
No contests - 1

What we know so far is Freddie Roach has not committed himself yet to train Manny for this fight. Bob Arum is the the promoter for this fight, it will be De la Joya's Golden Boy Promotions and Manny's MP Promotion.

Earlier it known that Manny was asked to be an under card for Jeff Horns fight but Manny rejected the offer. There were also rumors that Manny can't fight in the US like in Las Vegas because he has issues with the IRS "again".
Manny Pacquiao is already retired in boxing I wonder why he is still fighting even though we know that he is already rich and already the top boxer intire the world. Well, I think the things wil go whatever it is sooner or late even manny becomes the winner or loser at least he is already the top boxer.

As far as I know Pacquiao didn't officially retired, he just say that he'll retire but look at him now he'll fight again. Yes he's damn rich so I think this isn't about money but more than its title and pride.

Without further a do, as Filipino whatever he do he's carrying the pride of a Filipino so I'll still support him until his last fight.

Greed as its finest. This is the first thing that came up with my mind when I read this thread. I just can't believe that despite his age, MP still wants to fight and take note, his opponent this time has a good record to begin with. This just proves that people are driven by greed one way or another. MP has astounding records up until today but he will risk it just to get more money in a fight like this.

Oh well, it's his decision. I'm just hoping that this is a sound one. I'm just gonna watch this fight and laugh at him when he is beaten like pulp by his opponent. Just focus on your day job MP.  Grin

So what happened to the rumors that there will be a re-match against the former teacher, Jeff Horn? I thought this will be the first match that Manny will be going before accepting another fight.

Manny Pacquiao should retire and try not to tarnish his legacy in boxing more.
He should and there are news that he will do it this year and I thought he even said that for clarifications.

What is he trying to prove?
Nothing. He has belts already and this fight will take nothing to him if he lose but if he wins, he will gain another reputation.

I'm not updated with what's happening to the boxing career of Manny but if Freddie Roach doesn't committed himself to train Manny, do you know when he will start training him or Manny will train himself alone with the assistant coach?

Maybe he wants to try or reign in every division in boxing?

Of course, I believed that everyone is really fighting for the money. Boxing is now a big business. While others still want to fight because of pride. And then some wanted to prove that they still have it. Another classic example is Muhammad Ali. His health is deteriorating that time, but he needed money. And then Dela Hoya-Pacquaio. He wants to proved that Roach is wrong, however, we know what Manny did to him.

Pacquiao is still fighting thought he retired after his loss against the money team?

Looking at the stats of Lucas Matthysse I dont see how Pacquiao will even manage to stand in the ring with such a boxer, if this fight will be up for a wager am going with a Matthysse win.

Exactly. It seems that history will soon repeat itself like what happened in Pacquiao vs. Horn fight last year. We can't deny the fact that Pacman aged in boxing and he's really not getting younger and those who match him is young and more agitated to move so this next fight for him will like under match in some aspects. Well I hope Pacman will win despite of all shortcomings, still he is the pride of all Filipinos.

I don't know that these issues are existing with Manny Pacquiao. It wasn't reported to the news that he was offered to be an underdog or he chose to keep quiet and choose to be silent.

Correct, I thought that he has indeed settled that issue with the IRS long time ago. But I know that he has make arrangements with the Philippines BIR (Bureau of Internal Revenue) about the tax evasion filed against him.

Correct me If I'm wrong but isn't it US has imposed stricter tax laws under Trump's administration? So I think it would make sense for Manny to fight outside US soil where he has to pay like 10%-20% against the new US tax law for non-residence to pay as high as 36%. Nevada doesn't have income tax that's why a lot of high profile fight happens in Las Vegas but with the new tax reform law, it looks like it was overshadowed.
If that is about the IRS well that can be a possibility that he wants to stay away with it first so he chose to fight in other place. I'm not knowledgeable with state taxation and basic things about US' regulation about the new imposed stricter tax law.

I'm not either updated with his entire career and to be honest there are many websites that are tracking and following his career path and even listed all of his achievements. So if you want to follow his career, you can just google them all. We all think that MP will start to resign and he even said it before but the reality is that he can leave the industry because it gives him a lot of bucks and this can't be compared from his other source of income. Few punches throw, few punches received and body pains = $$$ for him.

Without reading all the other comments in the thread, my first impression after reading the title is Manny Pacquiao should retire and try not to tarnish his legacy in boxing more.

He already did enough for the sport and I assume that he already made enough money to live comfortably for the rest of his life. He is also a senator.

What is he trying to prove?

Maybe he wants to try or reign in every division in boxing? I don't know, when I watched the news he's saying that it will be his last fight whenever he will having a fight but then again he's still fighting.

Manny isn't getting younger anymore so it would be better if he retire sooner like what the others did and don't wait someone will knock him off the ring as that will what the people remember, his last fight.

It would be a great fight from overall stats of Matthysse i will not think he will become a WBO welterweight champion if he had a bad kind of fighting style like Floyd and it will be going to a perfect match to Sen. Manny Pacquiao. The odds was still confusing me it depends but if supposedly the crowd will go to Pacquiao.

As a Filipino and a Fan, I would love to manny fight again and reign again. But, given the fact that he is already a public official and doing a lot of paper works especially now that he is one of the minority leaders of one of the cases that are still under investigation, His focus might not be fully committed to his training and etc.

Plus, Roach and Manny already parted ways (based on the news here) so normally a new adjustment again (if ever) to Manny.

@bbc.reporter is correct, what is he trying to prove? Given that he already has a successful career, build and make a mark in the Boxing industry. *Though He's earning more in boxing than as a senator but nonetheless his salary as senator is just for his food allowance.*
