Manny is too old to fight. Don't get me wrong, I love Manny, but he should be retiring and not fighting anymore. He doesn't have it anymore, too much luxury, joining politics, church stuff, etc. He is too preoccupied to even be fighting anyone. He doesn't even train as hard before a fight like he did back then. This will be a clear win for Matthysse, but gambling wise, we'll have to see the odds.

Well Matthysse is 35 yrs old now and Pacquaio is 39 so I think it's not a big deal after all.

Matthysse is a heavy puncher? What about Pacquaio? - Soft puncher?

Matthysse gave a hard fight on his peak? What about Pacquaio? - Hmm so the Pound for Pound king is a joke?

Matthysse is an aggressive fighter? Is that the main course of Pacquaio? - Smiley

Manny is old? Oh so old that he make young and prime Jeff Horn looks like a punching bag.

Stats don't lie but in general , the verdict will happened on the ring on the day of the event. Goodluck to all.

That may be true, but seriously, if he is still holding that Pound for pound king title, he should really be stripped of it. He hasn't knocked out anybody for years now. He has not had a good fight in ages as well. He may still have the quickness and the sharpness to fight, but the problem is the guy is totally pre-occupied! He's even a senator for christ sake! Aren't they supposed to be working all year round? Not only that, he does so much other things aside from boxing that he doesn't train as well as he used to!

The fact is, he doesn't have that hunger he had before. When he was hungry for a victory just to feed himself. Fame and fortune has gotten way into his head and it is showing.

You get it wrong. I don't say that he is still holds the Pound for Pound king today. Im comparing that on the peak days of Matthyse as others say that this boxer gaves hard fight during his peak so how about Pacman during the peak?

At first Im disagree at his desires but you can't see the positive side if you are only looking at the cover. Didn't you know that despite of his busy schedule he is one of the working Senators? And no, it's not about KNOCKING OUT but the outcome he is giving to his opponent. Look at young Jeff Horn's status after the fight with the old Pacman.

And to those people who keeps saying that he must resigned now to boxing, it doesn't making sense. Whatever Pacquaio's decision is none of our business. "We will never understand him because are we a boxer itself?" It's hard to left your passion that raised you on being poor since his childhood days. Those who resigned at boxing are showing bad signs already at their body unlike Pacquiao that thinks he still can. He will stop if he knows he can't fight anymore.

Well said. Thumbsup. Hope this will clears now. And if anyone didn't know, there are still offers for Pacquiao recently to fight Terrence Crawford prior to this Matthysee fight. Imagine how come he can still be a great picks from youngsters? And to add for that, Manny Pacquaio already answered lots of times about a question if when he will hang his gloves. His response, he still can fight and that's it. No more questions.

He have lots of money, lots of businesses, lots of investments, already a boxer hall of famer, achieved lots of records etc. Now what you guys think why he is still fighting up to today? The answer is above and it was clearly nailed.

Pacman is going to win, I am pretty sure of it. People seem to discredit Pacquiao after his Mayweather defeat, but don't get confused, Pacman is a straight beast.
I also believe that he's going to win this match. They are now underestimating Manny because of his past losses not only with Mayweather but also with his lost to Jeff Horn.
No doubt it will go the distance, as have his last 10 or so fights, but I expect him to win by UD.
Before Manny's matches aren't even reaching the decision, most of his matches are due to T.K.O but now he's getting older and older, his stamina becomes low same as his endurance but still he has the guts.

The final date for the Pacquiao vs Matthysse fight was announced and its going to be July 15 in Kuala Lumpur, so thats July 14 in the evening in the US. The President of Golden Boy Promotions Inc. Oscar De La Hoya also announced the date through his official twitter account. Now I am waiting for the odds.
Something to consider:
Senator Manny Pacquiao last fight was July 02 2017 lost via unanimous decision to Jeff Horn.
Senator Manny Pacquiao has been out of the fight scene for more than 1 year.
Lucas Matthysse last fight was January 27 2018 and won via KO in the 8th round.

What we know so far is Freddie Roach has not committed himself yet to train Manny for this fight. Bob Arum is the the promoter for this fight, it will be De la Joya's Golden Boy Promotions and Manny's MP Promotion.

Earlier it known that Manny was asked to be an under card for Jeff Horns fight but Manny rejected the offer. There were also rumors that Manny can't fight in the US like in Las Vegas because he has issues with the IRS "again".

I wonder what Manny is trying to accomplish. You have made a good run in the world of boxing, you are loved in your country and even a representative of your people if played well, he could lead the country one day and want to still go out and embarrass himself in front of the whole world watching. I love Manny and would want him to win but losing this game would do more harm to his reputation than the hit it has take from his match with Mayweather. The only option is that he just must win.
The only explanation that I can find is that he loves fighting, while they are many people that enter boxing with dreams of becoming rich and are only doing it for the money, there are probably people that love to fight, that love the challenge and when you think about Manny and all the things that he has accomplished he has nothing left to prove maybe he just wants to do it because he can.
Considering your statement, If he just love to fight then he might also  wanted to please his fans, those people who still loves seeing him inside the ring, hoping that they can still see their champ fighting with pride again, we knew that he already achieved what everyone dreams of, so whatever the reason is, we should enjoy the outcome of this fight.

Just an update on this fight. The schedule will be moved to July 8 instead of June 24 of this year. Fight will still be held in Kuala Lumpur. According to news articles, Senator Manny rescheduled the fight to give way to the Ramadan or Muslim Festival which will start by May 16 to June 14. World Boxing Association Welterweight title is on the line.
If that's the reason of moving the schedule then Manny Pacquiao is really caring for the Muslim brothers, let's settle down and don't tackle too much with religion. I hope whether he wins or not, he'll retire.

Easy brother, they are going to fight in Malaysia and not US so you have to take into account their religious view here. But yeah, win or lose Manny should retire for good, there's no point in fighting anymore. He has the power and the money already.
I'm on chill mate. I know that he's fighting for something but now it's not about the country's pride or even he's pride because he doesn't care anymore if he win's or lose just like the last time which is clearly like a staged game.
Manny Pacquiao switched to the Muslim religion? He was Catholic before was he not? As most of the Philippines are of Christian and Catholic faith. As I last checked it was something like 65-75%.
Wouldn't this affect his political advancements in the polls next election? And even affect him trying to become president of that country next administrative term?
No he didn't switched religion. What I'm saying is that he cares for Muslim brothers. Not because I mentioned brother, he's also a brother in faith with Muslims.

From my perspective, it looks like Manny Pacquiao really wanted to show the world that he can still win. And after the lost from Jeff Horn, he's pride takes over and eager to show again his talent and let the people know he is not that old and he is still relevant in the world of boxing.

But for us fans, we see different, we are calling for Manny to just retire and just focus more on his day job as Senator of the Philippines. There are reports that he is already out of his contract with Bob Arum so it really doesn't make any sense for him to really fight. We would understand if the contract says that the still needed 1 fight before the end of the contract. But if the report is true then we really don't know that is the reason for him to fight.

Are there any options? In each fight no matter what would be the sport is, the important thing is to win and that's the mindset of most athlete that's why they do really compete with others.Just the thing you have said on here Manny already proven himself to the world and in my view hes already old to continue to his career in the world of boxing. If he still fights then its his personal reason but we can already see that he had everything. Money & reputation but he still decide to fight but though its his own choice for the supporters of Pacquiao then we would really like for him to win and then stop completely on boxing.
Pacquiao era is already over not just like before that when he had a fight the hype is too high and you can feel the intense but now when there's an upcoming fight the excitement is already gone. The world already saw on his past performances and the eagerness on fighting had already been gone which is quiet understandable because of his new line of duty into his own country which will really lead into dis alignment or not too much focus. No matter what would be the result it is already non-exciting.

- Let's go back to the topic of discussing about the match.  Smiley
I think this match is made for Manny Pacquiao's political ambition. When he fights almost everyone in the Philippines will see him and remember his name come election time and also the proceed of this fight might be used to fund his election campaign.
He's too popular and he doesn't need anymore exposure what I'm thinking this fight is still for his purpose of making money. You know it's money matters, he has a lot of career to lean on and this fight is one of it. And you are right that this fight will gather additional fund for his political purpose, whether he run for a higher position in the administration or not, we don't know. What's the best thing to do right now is just support him at his best for this upcoming match.

As much as I love Manny I think the time to retire has come, not only he is becoming older something that is not his fault but he has other stuff to do, boxing is no longer his first priority and in my opinion this has shown in his last fights, it can be really difficult to admit that you are no longer the person that you were but he's no longer the Manny of a few years ago.

Will, if we talking about experience and power and speed i  rather choose pacquiao in this fight, because all of us here already know that he is the former 8 division  champion i the whole world compared to his opponent Lucas Matthysse a young opponent hunger to become  a champion and proving his own record that he have a right to become  a champion.maybe pacquiao now is to old compare to mathysse in terms of age but the hunger of winning back  again is still there and the power, speed is still there, because he want to regain back  his tittle.

Lucas is not that young anymore, although you are correct that Manny is much older that him. He last lost to Victor Postol via KO (although he seems didn't want to get up, but later he said that he injured is eye). But he then strung up 2 successive wins leading to this fight. However, I also think that Manny has still the power to outlast Lucas and I'm sure that Manny will win this and maybe retire after this fight.

I heard Manny is aiming for the next presidential position and yes if he'll win this everyone will remember him that he bring home again the bacon but for me this isn't enough for him to qualify as president. Well, his capabilities and experiences are just limited and I prefer him seeing in the ring than in Malacañang palace. He's so damn rich and if he'll say that he just want to help the poor, well he can help them without any position if he really want to.

I still go for Manny. I believe it is not the size of the opponent that counts/matters but the experience, the tactics, the moves and the fighting spirit. I believe money pacquiao have it all. It is just my opinion but i still do respect other’s. Goodluck to both.
If the fight goes to the distance I am 80% positive that Manny will win the fight. Matthysse  should aim for a knockout to seal his victory with no doubts coming from sports analyst and fans. Just like what happened when Marquez fought Manny for the 3rd time and he win, he retired and go back to his country ending the Marquez-Pacquiano trilogy.

Marquez is on steroids during the third fight. He is full of Clen form Mexican meat. hahahha

I totally agree with your analyst that as the fight takes longer, 6 rounds plus, I think Manny would have a great chance to win because Lucas is not that type of fighter who has a lot of gas. He can easily tire in later rounds, while Manny even though is older, has a lot of stamina and can even have a second wind if the fight takes longer.
