At one of the local gambling shop I visited during the weekend I happened to listen to a conversation between two bald looking gamblers at the shop talking about one of their gambling colleague who had won a big amount of money amounting to a million in the local currency and due to that win this colleague of theirs' has been avoiding them since e won that money. From their conversation it was obvious that they were a circle of close three friends that gamble together.

After all I finished with my bet headed home and was asking myself what could the colleague act that way avoiding his close friends they all gambling together and just because luck shines on him first he decides to create a distance and class. I couldn't actually annex a good reason why anyone should do that.

Op that is human being, though there is individual difference by the way but way concluding a matter hear the next person serves best , because sometimes things happen before it's called event or history.
Some person you hardly see them near their friend when there is money but only go close when in need and complain, it's hard to take away greed from human  there is one popular saying a friend to a thief must be thief I believe those friend complaining must have similar characters because show me your friend I will tell you who you are.

If your friend is not favourable unfriend and stopped complain, friendship is not persuasion but conceptional.

People can hardly control the greed of money, so if someone wins a huge amount of money and tells the people around him about it, then many people can't control themselves and try to steal that money. Relatives will ask for money as a loan.  Such incidents can happen in many ways.  So it is always better to keep your financial status a secret. Then it will be possible to keep yourself safe from all sides. Not only gambling wise, the sector from which you earn money if you have a lot of money should be kept secret from everyone and even from your family members.

I think that avoiding friends when they get a big win is really a fact that often happens, and I think there are several factors that are the reason why they prefer to hide it rather than tell other people especially their friends, one of the reasons is obviously that they don't want to share part of their winnings with others even if the other person doesn't ask, but they always feel worried that other people who know about it will ask for a share especially if they are one of their friends, which means they are clearly someone who has a fairly stingy personality.

And the other reason might be that they really need the money for something, like buying something important for their life, or saving money or whatever, and actually I admit that the winnings are entirely your right and it's up to you to share some of it with others to party or to celebrate your winnings or not at all, all the choices are yours, But what I would suggest is that if you don't want to share any of your winnings with anyone then it's definitely better to keep it hidden and never tell anyone about it, because usually if you do tell and your friends want a share but you don't give it to them then it can cause problems in the relationship.

Maybe he's trying to save up or whatever the reason behind we can't judge things out and same with your statement we need to look at it on all the different sides of a possibilities.
Yes, we have to look at it from another point of view and we can't just look at it from the bad side, there must be a certain reason that he did that because it was to avoid or prevent his friends from borrowing money from him or something else, it could be saving money like you say, therefore we cannot accuse someone of something bad without having to know why he did it because everyone has a view on this matter depending on how they see it from any side.

I will also definitely do the same thing because I am not a gambler who actively gambles with my friends, let alone gambling together, so when I win my friends don't know I won gambling, so I can enjoy the money with my own family sometimes. Sometimes if my friends know I won they will come borrow money to gamble, but if they borrow money for their living needs I will definitely give it voluntarily without having to use a loan status, to be honest for me it is better to give money to my friends than I have to lend it and have to make me collect the debt and sometimes that can break my friendship with my friend. That's why avoiding my friends is better when winning gambling.

Aside all you mention,is there is any other need to keep off from them, just because of a Million made. I thought you could have made mention of hate, jealous observed from them. I don't see any need for the distinction though we can't conclude.

We win we avoid them, when we were still in this stage of losses we never avoided them, and you boldly say you're a good friend, laughable. Win in gambling isn't satisfying or secure anything except you use it wisely, in a nutshell the money will finish.

Money has power and untill some people have access to money, you wouldn't be able to know there true nature. We can't really tell the kind of friend they where before one of them won the gamble but it's common that when you've won a big amount of money through gambling and the information circulates around your neighborhood that you would in most instances like low for the moment and when the information calms down, you can now decide to come out open and plan for others to know that you've won such amount of money.

I wouldn't blame him totally cause might be playing safe at such instance which isn't the wrong thing to do and somehow, some friends have this kind of entitlement mentality that makes them feel as though you owe them anything because you've all been gambling together. No one owes you anything and they shouldn't take it seriously on thier friend. If he thinks it's right not to carry then along because he's won at the moment, so let it be and it's just just a chance that can happen to others also.

A lot of true friends can actually act the same school envious when you find have one a lot in gambling and you’re winning, you can actually start the fighting the person or strange. This really happens several times even if it’s not just gambling some activities that your friend is doing more than you do, it’s bringing a lot of grogginess and misunderstanding between the both of you, so we can apply this in gambling. It happens in gambling a lot especially gambling is sometimes make people sad.
My Dad would always advise that if i want to know my real friends, i should test them with money and if they pass the test them in good to roll with them, and he's right afterall cause I've had friends who betrayed me when it comes to things involving money, a lot of poor people are humble and loyal but ones they lucky come across a huge sum of money then you'll know their real self, a true friend would always stand by you whether rich or poor.

Well, I don't want to be too quick to Judge cause a something could come up and hinder him from linking up with his friends after he won big, maybe he relocated to another environment and couldn't reach out to his friends but then the OP mentioned that they’re very close pals who gamble together therefore he could've reached them through call. Well different individuals have their different character so im not surprised if he actually ditched them.

Well, it's just funny on how gamblers do act especially if they win money that is not enough for them, you will hear them saying that, I have profit enough or what I have now it's not even up to what I lost or once they win, they disappear, they will want to leave immediately to avoid friends from begging then, some will even behave as if they are hearing anybody again just like my friend, I was at home that day and he came to and say, let's go and gamble and I told him, I don't have money and he replied that I shouldn't worry about that, that if he wins, he will give me some of his money to gamble and when we get there, he gamble up to two times before winning and when I ask him for the money, he promised me, he started shouting at me and I was like, what happened, did I say something wrong or is there anything the matter and he keep shouting till he left there, leaving me behind and I left in shame and that is the end of our friendship. So gamblers always act funny in they win and also causes some to lose their relationship etc.

I believe that a person would never avoid friends for no reason. If that person from first post made such a decision, then there must be a strong reason for that. We can only predict reasons. Maybe that person is greedy and dont want to share. Maybe this big win is his life changer and he has decided to quit gambling, so he avoid those friends, because they might drag him back into gambling. Maybe that person is no longer interested in gambling. He has caught his luck and dont want to test it anymore.

It's not everything that our friends must know, some people pretend to be friends but are haters and backbiting agents. It is important to know your friends very well because that's what can grant the level of information you given to them about your achievements. If you don't trust your friends because you believe they can do anything to harm you once they know you are successful than them, you don't have to tell such people anything good about yourself. One thing must lead to an action, before taking any decision, there is usually a cause for that decision. Some people stay away from friends after big win because they are don't want to share any money with their friend, if the money is big enough, I can tell my friends I won small amount.
It is better not to tell friends about money there are many friends who try to harm their behavior. Many friendships are destroyed in an instant because of money. That's why I don't want to share with friends after getting big money. Their decision may be better than the loss of a good friendship better to keep it up.

Yeah right, It's a matter of trust and confidentiality. Even I, doesn't tell everything in my friends especially if it's money related or even the career growth because there's a possibility that you will be having a problem towards them because you didn't know that some of your so called friends envy you. We need to learn how privacy works nowadays because what others didn't know, they can't be ruined.

Then we should choose friends wise. For example I share with friends most of my achievements. The moment I sold and bought new car. The moment kid went to school for the first time. I've got a annual bonus at work and etc. And I never saw envy light in their eyes, not their attitude to me changed, nor they ever asked me to share.

With situation with this guy, it might even be not his decision to part with them. That guys girlfriend, wife or other friends can suggest to do that, if they saw that those friends drag him down. Life is complicated. We can look on a situation from different angles. Not only from "that guy is greedy and dont want to share".

Yeah right there are influences that might change the mindset of such person though the big chance it's all because of the money and he don't want to share his blessings, looking at the perspectives, they all in the same spot before the guy wins that huge amount and right after that luck he change his mind and he doesn't like to be with that same company again.

Maybe he's trying to save up or whatever the reason behind we can't judge things out and same with your statement we need to look at it on all the different sides of a possibilities.

If everyone could think like you, of course there would be no dispute between those who win their bets and those who win their bets of course have the right to use it for what they really want and we have no right to forbid them or ask for a share of the winnings obtained, however I think it really depends on a person's personality and I often see those who win their bets celebrating with their friends.

This is a wholesome reply. Instead of judging the trader, there is a level of understanding what could be their reason behind why they are doing what they are doing. Because keeping in mind that we all have a reason why we are gambling. Some gamble to make friends or waste time, some is there to bond with their friends, yet most were there to make money and bring food to their home. This is just the reality. We don't want to force our friends to treat every time they win. Let them have their choice, because after all they also have their own reason why they are also gambling.
In fact, if someone finds out that their friend is getting a jackpot from gambling while we are losing. I definitely hope that the friend who gets the jackpot will give him the little he has earned so he can continue playing together.
but it depends on each personality. Some people really want to give a little gift, some don't.
Or it's true, as @bakasabo said, it could be that he is distancing himself from his friends because he wants to end his gambling activities.

I think keeping things personal is one of the fastest ways to grow. When you tend to share your progress or findings with friend they most times expect you to carry them along or share with them, how you do it. Now what many fail to understand is that they think they are being honest or nice to tell that to their friends without them knowing that they are not yet accomplished and fulfilled to be in the position to do that. Its different when you have strong foundation on something that whatever happens it won't affect you to when you are just new into something, and you want to bring all your friend to participate or share that blessing with you.

Many are saying that the "friend" disappeared with the money, but I have another theory:

I believe that when he won, he wanted to make a "smart" move by betting again with the money he had won in the hope of multiplying it again and keeping entirely the winnings from the second bet, dividing only the winnings from the initial bet among his friends.

However, as with most greedy players, he was unable to multiply his winnings, quite the opposite... he lost everything Tongue
As a consequence, he now needs to suffer the heartbreak of his defeat without the courage to tell his friends about the trouble and what he got himself into... he prefers to be called a "dishonest" than a "stupid".

Each person has their own priorities, and in the eyes of the person who won the money, there will be many future plans to continue to improve their life thanks to that money, people usually think about going to college, starting a business, even buying a house and settle down with their spouse. It depends also on how mature the person is.
I agree we should not judge these kind of situations and stories without having further context, though, I lean myself to think the wanted to stay away from gambling and since his friends continued to be gamblers, then he decided to cut ties with them for the sake of his own future. His former friends may have not understood that decision and took it as something personal.
Just because one won big st gambling, it does not mean one is expected to party and waste all the money in frivolous stuff like alcohol, women and small luxuries.

Sometimes fame can really get to you  and it even attract and brings attention that isn't really wanted because that's the way some persons act when someone close to them actually got a big break of winning huge money from gambling and this notion doesn't only applies to Gambling winning, I believe it can be  in every field of life. More money attracts more person and that makes things awkward and make people shy away because at that moment they only feel love because of their money.
