Very interesting to see the reactions to the newly introduced concept of merit as an additional indicator of account maturity and quality beyond just pure number of posts / activity. While this was introduced to increase post quality it has of course created a counter movement and a market place for "trading" merit - for money.
So this is just a reminder for everyone that the introduction of merit is a GOOD thing because it will help improve the quality of this forum for everybody.

"Trading" merit will undermine this and render it eventually useless.

Actually I agree with this merit system, introduce by admin theymos. But I dont think it is right to trade merit. Merit is only given to those people who make a quality post , and not to those people who also give you a merit. You can show your glad and gratitude to other people by other way and not giving merit to his unquality post. You must give itbto the one who deserve it to receive.

Yes absolutely and it has already improved the quality of the posts.

And yes not only its not right its actually not allowed to trade / sell merit and will lead to negative trust ratings or bans.

This new way merit system created by theymos is really genius. It might get some critics to some people but generally this thing completely stopped account farming or selling accounts because those things are useless with this new merit system.Account wont be easily rank up because of merit requirement but its not the main thing why this is being created but for the sole purpose of post quality, you cant easily level up if you dont contribute anything worthy to this community.
It's totally true Smiley). The account sellers and spammer can't survive in this forum anymore. I think appearance of Merit point will make the number of member in this forum decreases a lot cause I think a lot of shitposter and account farmers will give up and get out of this forum. It'll make this forum become better and better Smiley. But there are some guys still trying to cheat merit system, they think they can overcoming all moderator, DT member and admin but they're wrong. LOL. Merit seller and cheater are being hunted very harshly.

Yes quality over quantity for sure. The recent surge in interest in blockchain plus the flutr of ICO's has attracted a lot of people to the forum that are not interested in contributing but are looking for a way to quick cash.
So the addition of the merit system on top of the trust system already in place will make it more and more difficult to farm and trade / sell accounts for spamming, scamming and other non constructive purposes.

This seems best advice for the people who does not like the new merit system implemented by our admin Theymos. I personally everyone increasing the post quality getting any threten by the DT members negative feedback. Even some DT members are also taken back their feedback after this implementation has been done here.

Everyone need to contribute this forum for make everyone's life better but recent days. Alt account and shit grammer become burden to many people. This made people who are not perfect lonely. We may find the dmerit system also further.

selling and buying merit I think it's a cheat action.
because at the core of our knowledge level is really well established and our posts are more qualified and can be understood by moderators.

People can cheat as much as they want to buy Merit and get their account to rank up quickly, but the main point of importance is that they in most cases can't avoid being tagged with red due to obvious and continuous Merit rewards for posts that don't deserve any. On top of that, most of the higher tier campaign managers know how to look through accounts who potentially have been buying Merit, or got awarded Merit from alt accounts. Currently it's still the very early stage, where everything needs to adjust and be correctly distributed, but the most important thing is that at least something is being done. It's already noticeable that the overall quality has been upped by a notch -- the more people are forced to deliver quality posts, the more they are forced to gain at least some knowledge regarding everything Bitcoin is about.

Yes I agree that there is less meaningless noise and low quality posts which is great. The only concern is that more junior ranks have either no or very little merit and so they are very limited in where they can give merit. This limits the circle of members to be able to merit posts to the more senior members of this community.
It would be nice to also enable the less senior members of the community to contribute to post meriting.

Merit was made to determine one's post quality.
If someone buys and sells merit it means that he abuses the system.
I can guess that Merit trading is forbidden and those who try to trade Merit will probably get their thread to be deleted.

Merit also very helpful as it gives users the option to thank other users for their posts.
An ability that wasn't available before.
Like with many other things invented with good reasons this one will be a subject of many speculations and manipulations. In my opinion many of us are giving the best we can, who is that judge to say that we have enough quality to get merit? Until now I didn't give and I didn't get any merits, I don't have enough merits to reward many great comments, and in same time I think many of my comments pass unnoticed here, who will reward me? My English is far from perfect, I'm trying to elaborate my thoughts in the best possible way, but does that means anything to anyone?
People will trade with merits, here or somewhere else, doesn't matter. When everyone is allowed to be a judge of comment quality I doubt in fair system.
Even myself I don't really bother or thinking up too much on how to earn smerits from other people as long you are doing fine on what you post as long it is not spam and having really a contribution then it should be fine but we cant really accept the situation on where there are post of ours which aren't considered by some people that haven't given any merit which isn't really a surprising thing. Abusing the system is possible because people would really make things that will really benefit them even post are not worth it to get merits but yet they are still getting more than on those deserving ones.

I see your point and I agree. But I think people with time will start to see the merit system as something usual and will get used to sending merits to posts which deserve it.

Maybe trading merits can be an issue in the near future, but I think the advantage of the merit system can be much bigger in the long run. So I agree with the idea (even if my rank now is low and for me it would have been much easier ranking up in the old way!)  Wink

That is highly likely to happen being new member acting in old way will benefit oneself in the merit system because only the old member can give you sMerits, thus if you leave a constructive post/comment to some topic they might notice that you are genuine and didn't want to shitpost your way up there.

I agree that merit is a good thing, due to reduction of low quality posts. And trading isn't an issue, because everything is checked and controlled by forum moderators (hopefully) and they'll cut off such actions. But there are some other problems: people give merits quite seldom, if we compare to "likes" on fb, and it would be great if people truly gave merits for what they like. But the thing is - lost of people barely even read others posts, or even if they do they don't feel like meriting someone due to rivalry. But I like the conception and I hope that it will go off well.

It can really be treated or act on different way which merits can be used also as a show of appreciation among other user not only on post quality for sure. Abusing the system is the thing that cant really be avoided because there are people who do really make some advantage for the sake of leveling up but well theres no worries since theres always an eye for these kind of trading behavior. They would really be tagged as long they are caught on abusing this new system.

can you discuss to me what is merit all about? thankyou Smiley

Read- https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/merit-new-rank-requirements-2818350

There have already been some bans considering the merit trading, but just ask yourself is it actually worth it? If someone was to buy ~50 merit points, he might get 1-2 lower ranks but he'd still need to buy that same merit 3-4 times to get to some higher rank. For example you'd need to buy 5 times 50 merit, to get to Senior member, 5 times from different users or 1 time from one person (or multiple) every month and if that doesn't get suspicious, I don't know what will.

if you're buying merit, you'll sure to get banned sooner or later, it's just a matter of time.

Accounts (farmed or hand grown - some even hacked) are sold pretty openly...

We already know that, once they're caught they should receive negative trust for their action making the account useless. The merit page helps us track people who abuse the merit system. Checking their history of merits sent could easily determine which users are abusing the system. If you see one you could always put up a thread in the meta section so DT members could put a stop to those users.
