This is practice, there are rarely any teams showing their real power during these periods, they will of course end up doing something as low as possible, and just test the systems. They end up adjusting everything during these periods so that they would not get penalty for changing it later on. This is known by any F1 really, the results of practice means literally nothing, absolutely nothing at all.

I believe that it is going to be probably another boring max win. I am not complaining, we had 7-8 years of Mercedes domination, so it is cool to at least see some other teams do well for a change, and I am guessing that even with the changes, the bouncing is still there for Mercedes hence why they will not be great.

First the weather conditions seemed bad for Saturday only but now it is the same for Sunday too. If this comes true then this race week can be really interesting.  Grin  Hamilton has been really good when it has rained so far. Maybe we can see him doing more than being on the podium. But for now if I'm to talk realistically, a Ferrari or Red Bull driver would win this race. Sainz seems good for now but I don't expect him to get past Leclerc tomorrow. We can see a good fight between Verstappen and Leclerc for the win.

I would not underestimate Sainz,I think he has had enough of being shadowed in almost every race by Leclerc except the last one where he in some moments even thought of fighting for victory.I think that has boosted his morale and  seeing him at the top spot today I would not be surprised.

In this track I would say that if Redbull showed their true performance yesterday (which I highly doubt) it means Ferrari should be easily on pole, but we have a question to answer in the official qualifying and that is,what is the true pace of the Redbull team,if they will really have that massive upgrade working I think then it is game over for the whole F1 season as most probably Max will dominate it.

Aleix Espargaro is the only driver who has been most consistent in this half of the season, and the events in Assen and Catalunya are things that I think are very unfortunate but other than that the possibility of Aleix Espargaro becoming world champion is very big this time, the Aprilia Bike is also very supportive, the factory team Italy is very developed this season.
Aprilia manufacturers also take advantage of the privileges they get in MotoGP to develop the tools they need and also the engines to be competitive, so the results are starting to show now that Aprilia is already a World Title challenger in MotoGP and that's what Aprilia wants. And that is clearly not wanted by other riders like Fabio because he is also trying to defend his title this season.

RBR was down on power in "safety mode".

The track should be not so bad for overtaking with this new car, as often happens Mercedes is close to the top on Friday.

They are gaining performance.

I also think that Redbull just didn't give it their best performance, they usually didn't care in the last couple of races in the free practice session but they have been consistent in winning all the six last races.I don't know if Mercedes are gaining performance as they were in the same performance as in Canada but tomorrow the official qualifying session will show us the true performance of the cars. Most likely with Sainz showing the potential of Ferrari it will be one of the Ferraris on pole, maybe Redbull will show their true performance in qualifying but I doubt they will gain what it takes to be on pole.

After some changes in the rules Mercedes also have found an opportunity to improve their car more. It seems like they have started to make progress already but I still don't want to be prejudiced by just looking at the FP2 results. We are going to find out the real deal tomorrow in qualifying session. Silverstone is a meaningful track for Hamilton and Russell both but it is more special for Hamilton of course. He would like to finish the race in top 3 at worst but it would still be difficult for him even if the car becomes better in this race.

It may flatter Merc a bit, as it's a very smooth track, so will alleviate the bouncing and mean they can run lower, closer to their optimal window... and the track also lacks the slow corners that have been a problem for them. But having said that, they may have made a step forward, yes.

And yes, RB remain the favourites and the ones to beat. Max will take some stopping. Leclerc needs a run of victories to get any chance back.

^  Yeah but it doesn't really mean anything considering the track conditions.  I had FP1 on but didn't really watch it.  I just couldn't get my eyes off the market.  Lolol.  I feel like an 8k red candle down is gonna happen anytime now causing mass panic.  I don't think there's real panic happening yet.

Anyway here are the results for FP2.  Better track conditions this time.

It is nice to see an Alfa Romeo on top of the standings no matter the circumstances, this first free practice session doesn't show us anything to see before placing our bets because most drivers didn't even bother to try at least a lap in the rain.Hopefully this will change in the second and third free practice so we can have some information, especially I am waiting to see Redbull if that promised massive upgrade is working or not but none of the Redbull drivers did a lap out in this first section so hopefully they will do in the upcoming one.

We have left the first practice session behind by the way but the half of the drivers didn't even have any time recorded. The first three drivers were like Bottas-Hamilton-Sainz. We can't have a clear opinion from a session like this of course. It is expected to rain tomorrow also and I started to think whether Hamilton who is the master of rainy weathers would be able to do something unexpected in qualifying. But I still don't think that the car would let him do that.

The major topic has been the racist language Nelson Piquet and Juri Vips that have used toward Lewis Hamilton, all the teams immediately stood by Lewis being 100% right and also Juri Vips is terminated from continuing to be a Redbull test driver just because this incident.

Maybe all the teams, but not all the drivers. Entirely unsurprisingly, Max Verstappen has come out on the side of Nelson Piquet. Who'd have thought that would happen?  Grin
Apparently it was all taken out of context, Piquet is great, not a racist at all, he just used a wrong word. Poor, misunderstood Piquet.  Roll Eyes

"I’ve spent a bit of time with Nelson, I think more than the average person in general, and he’s definitely not a racist. He’s actually a really nice and relaxed guy, and I’m pretty sure that also the statement he released, I think you can see the word in two ways. But I think it’s still better not to use it."

Not that Piquet has any history of this sort of stuff at all... the stuff back in the 80s about complaining Mansell's wife is ugly, and Senna is gay, etc.
But on the other hand, you can see why he gets on so well with the Verstappen family... Max's prospective father-in-law may be a racist bigot, but Kelly Piquet's prospective father-in-law was arrested for attempted murder. I don't know what a family dinner would look like... probably a load of pointy white hats.

Now it is official (even after the official cancellation of MotoGP not to race at the Kymiring 2022) the owners of the Kymiring are insolvent. So there will be also no Formula 1 race at the Kymiring in the future. When the MotoGP was cancelled, it already appeared that the owner was insolvent, nothing had been built for a long time and it was impossible to complete the project by the time of the MotoGP.

It's actually a shame, but the operators have overstretched themselves enormously or the money has simply seeped away.

The only MotoGP rider who always finishes in the points zone is Aleix Espargaro of the Aprilia factory, meaning he has never crashed in the first half of the season except for two incidents he didn't expect such as in Catalunya and Assen. If only Aleix Espargaro could manage to finish second in the Catalunya race (without a blunder incident) and be able to win at Assen (without a collision incident), then the number of points would be the same as Fabio.

Silverstone will definitely be a high point of the season. It's a very prestigious track and winning here means a lot for every driver. I think Williams is doing something special, I am not sure what they are doing but they said that they are coming with basically a brand new version of their car, which means that there is a chance they could be a lot faster. They say that it's close to 1 second faster on qualy pace, and that is of course amazing for the regular race as well.

Qualy is a bit different since you usually race with fresh tires for a lap or two, and race would see you on tires that would run down. But I think they could actually have a hope to get points. I am considering to bet "williams to get points" if I can find that anywhere.

If they are one second faster for real then it would be very nice to see them through the race and I think if they manage to get a consistent of 1 second faster every lap compared to their old car then it is a sure thing that they will end up in the points. They ended up a few times already during this year if I am not mistaken because I see they have points in the constructor Championship. It would be nice to see Williams improve after so many years of them failing miserably to be where they belong,to the top fight.

As for that bet you ask I didn't find any offering from betting companies as of yet.

That bend 5 makes him desperate, I don't know how he feels when crashing in the same place. Quartararo uses a different strategy for this time, maybe he wants to improve but it's not perfect until he can't overtake Espargaro and fail. But he is still on top with 172 points, in the 2nd is Espargaro with 151 points (for 4th position)

He looked like he wanted to overtake Espargaro immediately. Maybe he realized if he was far enough behind he'd be in more trouble. But it seems their impatience made him careless. He should have been more experienced and more patient. Not getting points is very detrimental. The point difference is getting closer. When I fell the second I was actually surprised, because the place is the same. I don't know why it repeats itself, It seems he was too tilted and the tire grip was lost. The next series at Silverstone in August looks like we have a 2 week gap.
I still don't know why Quartararo got the penalty?. is will it affect the Silverstone?. this is the race where the racer is ahead of each other, when we look Espargaro didn't crash, and still continues to race. Maybe Quartararo's bike still has the same problem of tire or something else because he crashes in the same spot (bend 5), which I think still has time (2 weeks) for investigation.

Wait, what?  A penalty?  I'm only now getting around to watching the race, I should have stayed away from this thread until I finished.  I just saw Quartararo's second fall.  Second fall!  That was painful to watch.  What the hell was he doing out there anyway?  It was obvious he wasn't getting back in the race, probably still shaken from that first fall and his insistence to stay out there was only putting himself in danger.

I'm off to read about the penalty.

ETA:
The penalty was for being too aggressive when attempting to pass Aleix Espargaró, and he'll have to take a long lap at Silverstone this weekend.
