He has surprised everyone and not just you.He was a normal driver or at least we thought of him to be a normal driver because he had not until yet the possibility to drive a winning car.Now that he has this opportunity he is shining in every race and only increasing his performances except at Imola where the pressure to do good in front of Ferrari fans got the best out of him and he made a lot of errors.He is fighting hard to win every race but a lot of problems got the best of him lately,a power engine failure in Spain,a catastrophic team error in Monaco,another failure in Baku and now in Canada forced to start in the end of the grid.Difficult for him but if he is good enough he should take advantage of the not so fast tracks that we are going to visit in the next couple of races.

The distance from 1st and 2nd place was almost 10 seconds,,, not as far away as in Baku but again just proves the dominance from Red Bull, even when one of them somehow fails to finish.

Nobody could see how easy the next few races would be for him after not even finishing the first two. But the season is long and if Ferrari moves in quickly, they have a big chance.

LeClerc finishing 5th is one heck of an achievement.

Leclerc really shined and it's a shame that the events of the race prevented him from having an even more wonderful day... first he was stuck behind Steban Ocon on tires that could have given him a few more important positions, and after the pitstop a few more. DSR that prevented him from advancing... finally we could still see him shine at the end of the circuit and finish fifth. but I believe he deserved at least to have won another place on the podium.
I hope he continues to shine in the next races, he is a driver who has surprised me since he started in F1.

Charles will have a big advantage later in the season, with the penalty they choose to take they will have a lot of free pieces.
And considering the fact they have problems with the engines at the moment, they are the only team that could have a free upgrade.

Sainz is not a driver who could be a threat to drivers like Verstappen.He has not shown being aggressive in any way or any race now and even before he joined Ferrari at McLaren he didn't show anything even when he was in situations like this of today fighting for victory.Verstappen is the world Champion and cannot be overtaken that easily but what Verstappen did was to make a difference in the first sector of the track where DRS was not used and managed this gap in the second and third sector of the track in the last stint of the race after the safety car.

Now he is leading comfortably and he can even afford to lose two races with 0 points and still be in competition to fight for the title.

Bagnaia had made a bit of a mistake at the start of the race trying to push the bike harder, whereas with Hard tires front and rear it shouldn't be pushing too hard at the start of the race because it can be so dangerous that the result is a Crash. And Aleix from Aprilia also didn't get a podium so Fabio's points in the standings were starting to look far away for Aleix to chase.

It was a really close race in the last moments of it actually but still we didn't see the leadership changing hands. Sainz had a big chance to overtake Verstappen thanks to safety car but he still wasn't as fast as Verstappen even though he took advantage of DRS many times. Verstappen was very quick during the whole weekend. It was a really unfortunate race for Perez as he couldn't complete the race. Aside from that Leclerc did a great job by reaching the third place. He could have done more but it is still good.

That was one of the cleanest races despite three DNF, they weren't big crashes. Mick Schumacher was unlucky again, I wonder when will he get points. Bad day for Sergio Perez but good for his teammate. Verstappen won another race without too much pressure. Last ten laps were exciting but Sainz couldn't find an opportunity to overtake Max. Good race for Mercedes, Hamilton got another podium and Russell finished fourth, and driver of the day was definitely Charles Leclerc. He went from last place to finish fifth. He could've been in better position if he didn't get caught in the traffic after pit stop. Fun race though, not the best one we've seen.

Good recovery from Ferrari but Sainz had no possibility to overtake Max.

Impressive race for Mercedes, they are getting closer to the top once again.

Yeah, not most difficult win for Max. Sainz gave him some pressure in the end, but he wasn't even close from real chance to overtake him. But I don't think that Sainz should be disappointed about result. Yeah, he wanted to win, but after so many races with bad outcome this season, 2nd place is great result. 3rd place for Hamilton is great thing too. This season is so difficult for him, so this result is a bit relief for him.
Tsunoda crash on pit exit - wtf was that and how?

^  Yup.  It was a mostly a boring race and got a little interesting the last 10 - 12 laps with Sainz getting close.  But in the end it was nothing.  It would've been more interesting if Leclerc was behind Verstappen.  He could've pushed Verstappen more imho.

Vertstappen has won the F1 can Montreal. Everyone thought beforehand that it would be an easy race, and that he would quickly get away from the rest. However, it was very different because of a different strategy. A safety car and a virtual safety car on the track, that changes everything. The difference was minimal, but if I have understood correctly, Verstappen has already won 6 races in a row. Then you are also world champion worthy of driving. Leclerc had to start from 19th place so there was no competition today.

Again a strong performance by Fabio, for Bagnaia it was probably a small preliminary decision regarding the world championship, so it will be more of a world championship battle between Fabio and Aleix. I did not expect this season in any case, so it will be with a Ducati title again nothing after the strong last season.

Race in around 5 minutes!  And remember guys...  Always head on Formula Dan for the lulz.

That is pure dreaming.Even if Alonso gets past Max the Redbull power is much bigger than that of Alpine so Max should stay calm even if he loses the position in the start of the race,he should be very careful to not lose this race because of the first turn,he should do the best to avoid any crashing and if he does so the track then permits for him to easily take back the position from Alonso.I know that Alonso is a two times world Champion but in this track that does not mean anything,because you cannot just defend with a slower car in big straights like this track has against a much quicker car like Redbull.

Honestly Alonso at upfront when starting will become one of the funniest things I have ever seen in a long time. I hope that Max gets out fast and doesn't lose position, because after that Alonso will "defend" max better than perez, that dude is a master at defending and not losing a position, doesn't matter why and who and if points or not, all he cares about is not getting past. Remember what he did to Hamilton last year in Hungary?

Hamilton had one of the best cars in history, nobody came close to him, and Alonso kept him for soooo long. That is what Alonso will try against everyone, which I assume will work only for a while and eventually people will pass him, but if Max goes off right away, he can have a 20+ second free pit stop type of advantage after a while.

Yeah I watched a bit of qualifying while watching the UFC.  When I saw the red flag and seeing that Charles Leclerc not having a chance to win me a bet I just turned it off.  But yeah if the UFC wasn't I would've continued watching.

Anyway from a betting perspective what do you guys think of Mercedes both cars to be within the top 10 by the end of the race for points finish?  'No' is lined at 2.70.  I feel like Hamilton drops some spots and would be finishing 11th or 12th...  Dunno.  Cnut?  What do you think?

And what about Leclerc finishing top 3 at 3.25?  I feel like he can do it.

Seems to be a good decision to do that to be honest. I mean even if he starts from the last position he can still easily finish the race in the 5th place or so if everything goes as planned because all the other cars, including the mercedes, are just significantly slower then Ferrari and Red Bull. I don't think that it would be a big difference if he starts from the 10th or 20th position because he has no chance to attack the Red Bulls under both circumstances.
To the qualifying: It was pretty interesting to watch because of the wet conditions. I am happy for Alonso that he could show his class once again and i am a little sad for Mick Schumacher too, because he was so quick but he was unlucky with his last try where he messed up the first sector. I think position 3 or 4 would have been possible for Mick today.

It must be really disappointing for Leclerc to start the race from the last place in the grid. But Ferrari had no other choice about this because they want to give a smooth car to Leclerc for the rest of the season. He must be aware of this also of course. Besides, the qualifying was really delightful in my opinion. We saw some different drivers making big surprises as well. For example, Alonso made an incredible job as he finished this session at the second position. Rain helped him a lot too but he was very quick on dry track also though. I can't wait to watch the race now!

Not true, they needed to change only the turbo.
They choose to change everything so in this way, they will have an extra engine until the season with no penalties.

They took the double penalty and got 1 free engine, 1 free battery, 1 free electrical engine, etc, they changed everything so they have more items.

Redbull is still under the limit but if they will go near the limit they will do the same thing.
