After the terrible weekend Ferrari will try to anticipate the update of the Car.
The new floor of the car was expected for the next month but they are working hard to make it possible for the next race.

Can they do it?

Also Mercedes will bring a new floor for the following GP

I think so, at least I'm not aware of any rule that prevents this.

But regardless of that, I see this anticipation as very positive. Because in addition to the main focus of this update being the car's floor to improve tire warm-up and get them into the ideal operating window more quickly, these modifications would also bring about ten points more downforce to Ferrari.

In addition to the natural desire of every Formula 1 team to put new components on the car as soon as possible, debuting the update at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya brings another very strategic advantage... Ferrari has a vast historical database of the Spanish track, since pre-season tests have already been carried out at this circuit for a long time. Therefore, the weekend in Spain is a very representative moment to evaluate the development of aerodynamic innovations.

These type of races are great right after a race like Monaco which was as boring as it gets. I understand the historical value of Monaco GP and we are just used to it at this point, there is one boring week for sure, and a few more if things go different.

However, a rainy Canada was something insane, specially that Haas start was just out of this world, it was so much fun and I think people should realize how much this means to all of us, we are talking about something that is finally entertaining. For the past like a decade F1 has been quite boring at the very top, first Hamilton, now Max. So, seeing these type of races where everyone battles with each other is definitely something people do enjoy seeing without a doubt.

The last GPs have been unusually enjoyable and the Canadian GP was one of the most entertaining races in recent times. Russell and Verstappen's lap in the same split second was monumental and one of the most iconic moments in F1 in recent years.

Ferrari said after the Monaco GP that they were in the title race, but the Canadian GP showed us that Ferrari was wrong again. If Ferrari continue to make strategy mistakes, they will be the underdogs in the next grand prix. McLaren are getting better every race and their motivation is good. Verstappen didn't have the fastest car. McLaren and Mercedes were clearly faster, but none of them could drive as consistently as Verstappen, and Verstappen took the win. On a track where everyone else made mistakes, he came first. This guy is an absolute genius.

I also believe it was quite a delightful race.  Smiley  We saw many overtakes. I really liked Russell's determination here. He did his best to keep himself at the top as long as possible. But his car wasn't strong enough so he couldn't hold on after a point. Still it was so much fun to watch Verstappen - Norris - Russell trio fighting each other for the win for a while.

Norris could have really won here by the way. After Verstappen made a mistake - and maybe got some underfloor damage - Norris had a gap like 8 seconds in the lead. But that SC and a wrong strategy caused Norris to lose his advantage.  Sad

I haven't much words to say about Ferrari. A total disaster... When it comes to Perez, Red Bull has just extended this guy's contract.  Grin

^  Yeah Russell is a decent driver but he tends to get pressured in tough situations.  Seems like he's breaking too early or breaking too late when the pressure is right there wringing around his neck.  Lol.  Guys like Hamilton would thrive given they're under a lot for pressure.  And it's not like Russell is a total noob in F1.

And Ricciardo did pretty good.  Grin  I mean with the car he has and all.  Not bad imho.

The racing was quite exciting, where there were lots of overtakes and the wet track made it more challenging for the drivers. However, it is very unfortunate that both Ferrari drivers had to DNF, and it made me quite stressed watching them. And for Russell, this was quite a challenging race for him, where he not only had to fight Max but also Lando, but in the end he had to give up his P1 and finish in P3, even though I hope that at least he can get P1 in this race, but yeah luck wasn't on his side. Overall this race was quite exciting, but I just didn't really like the results.

as expected the race was full of twists and turns, but not in the victory. Max is the only driver to have made just one small mistake and for this reason he deserved to win.

Disaster at Ferrari with the worst race of the season, with engine and grip problems.

Better to lose one game 7-0 than to lose 7 games 1-0

Perez disastrous, his non-competitiveness confirms max's comfort zone and for this reason Verstappen wants him as second driver.

Its sun for the moment in Montreal but according to google at the moment of the race we will have almost 60% of possibility of rain.

Save the afternoon, if rains it will be one of the best races of the year for overtakes.

It was a boring race despite the rain being there too.It was a total disaster for Ferrari and Perez, surely not the way to celebrate resigning with Redbull, luckily as always for them Verstappen saved the day.You could easily spot in the paddock high profiles of Redbull racing like Adrian Newey were missing, this for me means only one thing,it means trouble for the upcoming races for Redbull and a great opportunity for teams like McLaren most of all to fight back with Verstappen to let us enjoy beautiful races throughout the remaining races in what it is the longest ever Formula 1 season.

What a nightmare for Ferrari, both cars out but this is not the worse, the worse is they lacked speed,0.5 seconds losing only on the straight and this means they have to work,I mean work very hard if they intend to keep fighting back against the faster teams.

The shocking part of the session was seeing Ferrari drivers out in Q2 already...  Sad  The reason is predicted to be cold weather. Because Ferrari has tyres which need more time to be warmed.

Lastly great job by Racing Bulls! Ricciardo got the 5th place and Tsunoda is behind by 3 places.

Yeah, I watched the qualifying, but I fell asleep 10 minutes into the session, because it's 4AM in my country, and in the morning I was a little disappointed with Ferrari's result and quite surprised at how Russell got pole position. But even so, I still have hope that Ferrari can improve their performance in the next racing session, at least they should be able to get a top 10 position.
And for Daniel and Yuki, they both really showed very good performance in yesterday's qualifying session, especially Daniel who answered his self-criticism by showing that he can still give his best performance with a car like that. I hope the best for them.

^  Yeah I watched quali as it was an hour before the UFC started.  But didn't pay close attention tho, was also goofing around some airdrop tasks.  Grin  But yeah...  Sad for Ferrari.  Lol.  I really thought they were gonna be bringing the momentum at Canada and right before the Spanish GP.  But they're prolly gonna bounce back...  We'll see.

And I really didn't notice Ricciardo doing well against Tsunoda at Q3 tbh.  Wasn't Tsunoda out pacing Ricciardo at Q1 and Q2?

Anyway, Verstappen at 1.68 to win the race seems decent here.  And what do you guys think of the head to head market between Leclerc at 1.35 and Sainz at 3.05.  Any chance Sainz finishes a head vs Leclerc?

Edit:  Typos.

Have you watched the qualifying? Q3 was very exciting and just look at this result.  Cheesy  It was really unbelievable that Russell and Verstappen had exactly the same lap time. But Russell took the pole anyway because of doing it earlier than him. I already can't wait for the race. I'm really curious about Mercedes drivers' race pace - especially Russell's.

The full results for the qualifying are here: https://www.formula1.com/en/results.html/2024/races/1237/canada/qualifying.html

people pay more attention to the news about marquez because he has his own charm and very good performance in the last few races. besides who doesn't know marquez and how his championship record in motogp? compare with martin who until now has not won any championship, though he is likely to get the championship title in the current season. this makes the news of marquez's move to ducati even hotter to discuss because it is everyone's hope.

I think not everyone, but only some people who are usually fans of Marquez himself, mate. And you can say things like that to people who have known MotoGP since the Marquez era began because I personally have known many MotoGP legends until the last one was Valentino Rossi who has retired from MotoGP.

I quite understand what you are saying because the media really looks more at riders who have selling points so that the news articles they write can be visited by many people. Apart from that, Jorge Martin, who never won the world championship in the MotoGP class, was also caused by the team he played for, namely the Satellit team, not a factory team like Marquez when he was still playing for the Honda manufacturer. So there is something reasonable for Martin as to why he has not been able to become world champion until now.

Sponsorship does have an influence because it is related to money, but for a manufacturer as big as Ducati, of course they don't really consider that because they themselves also have sponsors that they have to look after as long as the collaboration is still running smoothly. However, I see that Jorge Martin's move to Aprilia is not in the spotlight at the moment even though he was runner-up last season and current leader of the standings.

Hamilton is again doing really nice in Free Practice now just as in Monaco. But probably he will have big difficulties as of the qualifying. But there is a rain probability so who knows.  Smiley  Hamilton is normally one of the best drivers under rain. If he had a faster car he would already be more competitive. Mercedes must be having their worst year in the recent times I assume.

Norris and Leclerc seem quite competitive. I think they will both do nice during the qualifying. Maybe even a pole for one of them would be nice to see. Verstappen is still unpredictable. If he doesn't have a stable car until the qualifying he might have serious issues with taking the pole position.

It basically turned out that Perez's renewal was done for marketing.

Redbull admitted that the contract was made due to the great influence the driver has in Latin America, without him they would lose a lot of money in that part of the world.

What a sad decision from them

I saw it more to the appeal of the sponsors and the appearance shown by Marquez in several series of this year's race season. That is why I asked the reason Marc Marquez was drawn to the Lenovo team Ducati to become a colleague of Pecco Bagnaia. Understandably I don't understand the Moto GP but interested in always trying to be able to watch in every race series.
If you only look at Marquez's performance in several series which happened this season, what about the appearance of Jorge Martin, who has been at Pramac Racing for a long time? This is what caused Jorge Martin to go to the Aprilia factory because he was really not taken into account by Ducati because of Marquez's presence in the Gresini Racing team.

Quote
The popularity of Jorge Martin is not as high as Marc Marquez in my opinion which began to follow the development of MotoGP. Formerly since Vale and Lorenzo had not yet retired, Marc Marquez's name was also discussed and almost everyone knew Marquez. Maybe in terms of sponsors this can be justified.

^  It's higher according to an earlier post by coinlocket$.  Around 48% by quali and 36% by race time.  So that prolly means the chances of rain is going down as we come closer to the race?  It's prolly just gonna be cloudy will no rain so that means the track might be a tad cooler which will make it a little harder to warm those tires.  So given the bumpy road and the cooler tires, which team would perform better under these conditions?

Yeah, the weather is quite changeable lately. Maybe we won't even see rain as you said. I would be happy to see it in the last 10 laps of the race also for example. Think about how exciting the last moments could be.  Grin  Do you remember Norris' disappointment in 2021 Russian Grand Prix? Rain came in the last laps of the race and his obstinacy caused him to lose many places dramatically.

Therefore rain coming in that part of the race can be interesting here also. When it comes to which team to be better here, I would say McLaren and Ferrari by agreeing with general expectations.

Come on Leclerc, let's go for the pole!  Smiley

Cars got some upgrades today.

Redbull got a new rear wing, and some changes on the front one.
Mercedes changed the front suspension, Front corner.
Ferrari and Mclarens has no updates.

Also Verstappen asked for more upgrades cause RBR is loosing the gap  Grin

And the results were not very satisfying, because in the FP1 and FP2 sessions Max did not get good performance and had poor grip. However, I don't know whether in the qualifying session they will be able to improve their strategy to be able to face the race, but if they can't improve it is very likely that Max will only be in the top 5, just like yesterday's Monaco race.

Yeah...  As said by some folks who have been paying attention this season.  Red Bull's RB20 isn't handling the ground effect as well as their car last year and the other year.  It has something to do with the car's floor or something.  Couple that with this track's bumpiness and you got less down force.  Grin

If Leclerc wins again here then we could get the makings of a great season guys.  Wink  The next races will be in Europe at decent tracks...  Spain, Austria, Silverstone, Hungary then at Spa!

But then again Red Bull could be sand bagging.  We'll see at FP3.
