The impact of cockfighting in the Philippines has been worse especially when lots of people go missing because of it. There are rumors that a huge syndicate is behind it. There are also recorded crimes connected to cockfighting which also involves officials and several policemen. It's too disappointing that the legalization of cockfighting was abused and caused lots of crimes. It's a good thing that the government has considered banning it because of its bad impact on the community.

2. They have somehow prevented people from actually engaging in this activity.
Cock fighting is honestly a super agressive sports which can really put stress on not just the animal but people who are seeing it live as well. At the same time the economy of Philippines is going down and the first thing they can do is to actually prevent the people from using their money on things like that.

Cockfighting and other forms of gambling have been in existing in the Philippines but this is the only time that it made an impact to the society, this is because in the past there is a time limit in cockfighting and you had to go to the venue and so are other forms of gambling like horse racing but here in e-sabong it is made available to you 24/7, you can bet anytime and a compulsive gambler cannot stop himself on something that is there 24/7.

The principle of "The lesser of two evils" comes to mind here...
One the one hand you have animal cruelty and gambling addiction and on the other hand you have extra Tax income for the government. How will the people feel, if a school was built on the tax income from lives that was ruined by gambling addiction and animal cruelty?
This will never happen in 1st world countries where people are more distanced from the cruelty that are connected to animal slaughter for their meat. They are too sensitized and pre-occupied with animal rights and tree hugging ..than in 3rd world countries.
I speak from experience... because I live in a 1st world country and I work on contract in 3rd world countries.

If that is the best solution from the PH government, then it should have been done to prevent a bigger disaster that could arise in the future before more people or families are destroyed because of that gambling. This is bad for taxes but good for everyone, imagine, people who cannot even afford food for their family are using their money to gamble.
For as long as 2 USD, you can bet, but people who does not even earn below minimum wage are gambling, so where would their life go?

Reminds me of banning bullfighting in Spain, which was way more bloody than two cocks fighting. I can understand why bullfighting was closed - because bull will die anyway and before facing bullfighter with sward, he is exhausted by bullfighters team (dont remember their name, the guys on horses with pikes). But cock vs cock is a fair fight. Same as boxing or mix martial art fight.

- Do you think that your respective government will do the same even though that gambling is a big contributor to the government's revenue? It's a big sacrifice but no choice since lots of people got wrecked here and there are still unsolved cases of missing people.
This is the act of addiction that make people behave in that kind of manner. The major purpose of government is so it can protect lives and the property that people are having and if government is not able doing this type of function it is a failure to government. Money and live not the same. If government is getting to itself tax money and the people are dying because others set them up and also losing property by selling it to play gamble of cockfighting this is not good story for government. But banning because people are addicted is good move or else they can bring more restrictions so the addiction can be reduced but banning it is okay for me because its totally not fair to treat the animals in that way for our business.

This has been on the surge lately right after the pandemic and it become one of those revenue making from the government. However, it went out of control, people gets addicted to it, and there are reports of people just disappearing and being taken by no other that the cops itself, so this needs to be stop by the government.As OP stated, a kid was sold because of the E-sabong. This news was really trending because they did really sell their kid. Also, you are right, E-sabong was hyped during the pandemic because people had nothing to do at home. That is why the addiction in our country is rising. This online cockfighting gives access to everyone to gamble especially those who are on the lower income range, since they are the real target here and seriously even a minor can have a bet on this one and its really addicting. Though there’s no final resolution yet with regards to this one but hopefully the government will start to regulate this, and banned online cockfighting as much as possible. This has been the reason why many are broke today, this should be stopped.
There was no restriction and everyone can play especially the teens that are influenced by the YouTubers at their home and some of the wealthy old men that can't even move in their room are still playing. I know, because I have a source, a maid who was working at their home and she was telling this story to me, the old man was always pissed because he always lose, he cash in about $300 a day and most of the time he lost his bet. The reason why the government stopped the operation is that the poor are getting poorer since they can easily access online sabong which is the favorite of the Filipinos in all types of gambling. I have thought of this hard when I have come across this article.
