Cockfighting ruin the life of my friend so I totally agree on this to banned this kind of online gambling because it can ruin more lives if it continues.
We know in the Philippines they spend more time online, and that's why online Cockfighting becomes the trend over the past 2 years and even though the government collects a lot of money from this, they should still regulate this or stopped it totally. Hoping that no more minors will go into this kind of gambling, because its too risky for them.

I agree with this policy because cockfighting looks very inhuman to me. Animals like chickens don't have minds, so animals compete without rules, and many dies (very different from the fight that humans do). In my country, cockfighting is the most prohibited bet, the perpetrator can be imprisoned for a maximum of 1 year.

This online cockfighting is like playing in a live casino right? You just watch it at the comfort of your home and bet more often than you would at an actual casino.

If you bring gambling and leisure closer to the people then it's only natural that they become more prone to addiction so it's probably a good idea to stop it. It's hard to stop people from gambling online so better to just ban it if it poses risks to health and family relationships.

If that's the choice of the people then the government should do it as it's the citizens of that country whose lives will be affected, it's more of a political move rather than an economic one. For sure they will find ways to get revenue to offset this loss.

In PH's case, they should look into this gamefowl industry offline as there is still too much money involved in this and the government could get more if this could be studied. ATM, only the owners of the cockpit arena are benefitting from this industry.


For me, no. Online cockfighting is just one way to bet and there are a lot of options out there. Illegal online cockfighting will flourish on this move by the government so people who love to bet online will just go to this option.

Knowingly that this gambling type had been existing through ages and now that we are on a digital era then its no surprise that betting would made possible as easy as this but the government had seen the

possible effect specially that everybody could really possibly be able to make out bets on their mobile phone which could really give out higher chance of addiction which is something that government
doesnt really like to happen.Its actually a good gesture.It might be looking bad for those bettors but actually an overall good decision that had been made.

It's all about free will and choice. Those people that didn't end up good have chosen to gamble and they shouldn't blame anyone for it. They are all accountable for their actions.
If there's someone to blame, it is themselves because they are the ones who have the authority to do what they can with their money and they should be responsible for their decisions.

I don't see animal cruelty here because in the first place, these fighting cocks are treated well. It's hard to breed fighting cocks for a purpose on that. Breeders are spending lots of money here and in the end, they will just show cruelty on their own fighting cocks lol.

This is not something about animal cruelty but the effect on the people is now getting serious. These people may be new to gambling that's why they don't know how to face their losses and instead, they will chase it.

It's good that for now, it was suspended. It will give time to those addicted bettors to find themselves even if it will take time.

When I watch how low-ranking fighters in the UFC (and therefore having ridiculous incomes) crawl in blood and beat each other with their last strength, I have much stronger emotions about the unethical nature of what is happening. But for some reason, no one forbids such competitions.  
Regarding cockfighting, I can say that I support a ban on it in those countries where it was not a tradition - you should not start doing something that is outdated, but still, in countries where it is widespread and popular, the ban will only lead to the emergence of a black economy, the industry itself will not disappear.
As for "well-intentioned" bans with the idea that the government knows better how stupid irresponsible people should spend their money and spend their leisure time, I am strongly against it. I don't need morons-officials to decide for me what I can do and what not.

There’s a lot of pros and cons and yeah the government knows its consequences and the president already made a statement about closing it yet there’s not final paper for this and changes can still be made most probably.

I agree, this should be more regulated since cockfighting is already in the Philippines since then and its just that, pandemic force them to adopt change and adopt technology as well that’s why they go online but unfortunately, they missed to regulate it. I do have some bet here as well, and I can say its really addicting if the government really concern about their people, they should act right away.

This online cockfighting gives access to everyone to gamble especially those who are on the lower income range, since they are the real target here and seriously even a minor can have a bet on this one and its really addicting. Though there’s no final resolution yet with regards to this one but hopefully the government will start to regulate this, and banned online cockfighting as much as possible. This has been the reason why many are broke today, this should be stopped.

Fights between animals should be prohibited because they are bloody, unethical and harmful.
I understand that they bring income to the State but in the end it is an industry that takes resources without producing anything, at most simple entertainment.
In this case there Is also an issue related gambling addiction... Well It was a good choice but I think a better information should always be provided because this time Is with this game the next time It could be another one

PH President Rodrigo Duterte has approved the recommendation of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) to stop e-sabong or online cockfighting operations.

Online E-Sabong (cockfighting) is a legit and regulated gambling industry here in the Philippines. So much hype that many people got hooked on it even those who are not really into that gambling since betting here is so easy and different from the actual betting in the live arena.

The government is supporting online cockfighting here because it's a big help to support the economy during and after the peak of the pandemic. According to statistics, the government is receiving around PHP 60,000,000 (around $1,149,700 USD) per month in a form of taxation and revenue.

But since the hype of online cockfighting here, there are lots of recorded negative effects of gambling up to this date. Some people sold their houses, cars, gadgets, and even a "kid". There are also cases of missing several people on which today, there's still no good progress and that was all related to these gambling.

This was all brought up to the President and even though he was supporting the online cockfighting industry here, he ask his constituents to conduct a survey on the effect of this on all people. The result is WORST that's why ASAP, the President ban right away the online cockfighting and disregard the revenue the government is getting.

Let's discuss: (applies to all gambling-type)

- Do you think that your respective government will do the same even though that gambling is a big contributor to the government's revenue? It's a big sacrifice but no choice since lots of people got wrecked here and there are still unsolved cases of missing people.

- Is it really valid that we should blame the online cockfighting here that's why most people wrecked their lives?

For me, it shouldn't be stopped but should be more regulated strictly. I know there's a thing that can balance this but I don't know the specific term of it. Because of these irresponsible gamblers, the government's revenue got affected which should be a big help now that our country is just slowly rising after years of dealing with the pandemic.
