It would seem that cockfighting is really just a big thing in the Philippines these days (though I’m assuming there are other western nations also allowing for this to be going on). Those of you who live in the Philippines here, why not try and fighting back? Start protesting, educating fellow countrymen on this sickening and barbaric torture these animals are being put through? I can’t believe whether this gambling “game” is still even being considered by anyone.

Again, as always, if you support this..FUCK YOU!

This is the only decent stance you can take towards any sport that involves harm to animals and making two animals fight against each other to the death is especially sadistic. It is so brutal and barbaric that it echos throughout society at large, most civilized societies have outlawed similar blood sports many centuries ago. How anyone could take pleasure or entertainment from seeing animals in such fear is rather sick in the head. You can tell this case is simply about the fact that the Philippine government cannot control the revenue flow from online games that they have banned it, but they still allow in-country fights because they don't care about the animal welfare side one bit.
Nope. they arent banning cockfighting but only banning or blocking into those illegal online betting sites or platforms because it could really be having two
possible reasons.

1. They cant able to tax
2. They are minding about their citizens too much addiction.

This is a good government stance towards the situation but dont expect about 100% precision or totally solving out such problem.

Cock fighting is a big thing here in the Philippines because this is the only gambling platform that people can play whenever they want to play.   And cock fighting is the most or famous gambling fight during festival in different barangay or even in town. The government can not have a tax if this illegal gambling will continue and that's the reason why the government pushing to banned this kind of game in the country,.

^ After downloading and depositing Php100 registration fee, they can start betting with cryptocurrencies. Withdrawal would be easy but converting them to fiat would be harder because third party exchanges in the Philippines are highly regulated. I just don't know if these bettors use Binance and other unregistered CEX/Custodial services.
Maybe those bettors are using Binance and CEX and DEX services and they can choose what they want. Suppose the regulators get stricter with their regulations. In that case, there is a possibility that DEX will grow in the Philippines as the exchange will become increasingly crowded with bettors looking to convert their money to crypto and vice versa. This will also trigger an increase in local sellers which will help bettors.

So it appears there are still a handful of active websites taking in bets for e-sabong and operators are also accepting bitcoin to evade authorities.

This is their recruitment avenue to attract bettors. Once these bettors will communicate with the administrators of the Facebook page, then the admins will give a link to them to download.

Despite this some isolated cases of illegal gambling. I'm sure that the e-sabong activities will slowly die due to this much hassle process and I doubt that regular e-sabong bettors will manage to undergo on this hassle payment method while there's already live sabong games IRL. Honestly I don't see much difference banning this game while the physical game is still allowed. People that playing online will just go to coliseum and be live and the problem on gambling is still the same. The only difference was they can't bet anytime they want but still they can gamble on same activity and probably on much larger bet due to time constraint.

If you don't live in the Philippines, stay out of the way and keep the discussion professional. No offense but you are not in the right place to give a shit about the culture here for ages. It's clear that you are crossing the lines here. I'm sure there's a tradition too in your country that might not look comfortable in other countries.

We care for the animals here in general. We are even one of the countries that are recognized as the most pet lovers in the whole world.

If you don't want cockfighting, don't ask the PH community to start protesting. Instead, what you need to do is to start protesting in your country or nearby to stop this cockfighting. That's a big start.

No dream is too big and no dreamer is too small
I had no idea that online cockfighting was a thing, but it makes sense.  I'm sure as technologies like cryptocurrency become more widespread and more people become comfortable setting up platforms on the onion routing network, things like this will become more common.  It seems like only a matter of time before some sort of darknet gameshow like something out of a horror film becomes a reality.  I'm sure such a thing probably already exists, but certainly isn't mainstream...yet.

Yes, online cockfighting was indeed a thing and still remains a thing because there are some still some operators who are operating these things even if the president of the Philippines himself authored the ban of E-Sabong (online cockfighting). I admit, pursuing these operators of the site will not be an easy task to do but it needs to be done and it has to end before someone's family could be destroyed.

As technologies are upgrading, there will be a time that online cockfighting will be available again but it's not for everyone as the management would be more cautious.

Yep even though this is indeed quite normal in gambling and indeed many people think this will not have much impact because there is still a lot of exploitation and hunting of animals on a large scale but still this is a good step because it is not very ethical to see chickens this is in a race without any advantage for them, not even a few have to die because of this sabong fight which makes the government inevitably take risks But I support this and I think their actions are quite appropriate
They are only banning those platforms/sites which do operate on illegal manner or simply dont pay tax nor being regulated and they arent banning cockfighting specially on legal places or venues which government could

able to snip out some taxes or revenue. Therefore, this doesnt talk about banning cockfighting itself but only into those illegal related betting sites but pretty much sure this isnt something simple that they could
get rid off with since creating something new and online bettors would surely be finding ways for these places.
Thanks for straightening out my friend.
in this case maybe what you say is true but on the other hand it is quite difficult to prohibit something like this considering that in this case there will also be many ways as you say. we have experienced many things like this but indeed there are always many ways to break through this kind of thing. if something like that maybe this will only have a slight impact on the hard work of the government which prohibits it in my opinion because indeed this will only be a tickle and without any significant effect in my opinion

Filipino farmers face big losses if these bans are enforced.

The difference between farmers and breeders is huge. If you know what I mean.

Many people think that cockfighting will be banned in PH but it's a misunderstanding. It will still be operated and held on cockpits. I think this kind of gambling cannot be stopped since the government is earning from them and even though the life of many roosters "Fighter fowl" are being used for entertainment which caused deaths.

The good thing is that they banned the online e-sabong since many people are getting killed due to their debts.

Wow. This sounds pretty rough. I agree that there are quite a lot of rudimentary barbarian customs in any society, but this is part of our culture and history. Tell me, only cockfights infuriate you, or any bad attitude towards animals in general - I mean that people eat them and, accordingly, they kill them before they eat them. Are you a vegetarian?

When there's no pandemic we can only see this kind of event on weekdays or even if there's a festivities in town, but when pandemic hit badly Philippines many people has find this E sabong as one means of entertainment and other think about making this as platform where they can earn money. Some really earn with because they became an agent where they invite people to gamble on that platform.

If we look at it deeply this is really a animal cruelty because there are animals get hurt but this somehow part of the culture in that country so I think the decision of government to stop that what makes the cruelty and abusive acts lessen.

Every country has a different culture, maybe in the Western countries this is animal cruelty but in the Philippines, it's just a tradition for them to enjoy. Actually, the only issue here is the stopping of online cockfighting, animal cruelty was never an issue, and even the government does not see any problem with cockfighting, they just don't want to have it online anymore.

Online cockfighting in the Philippines has become the trend since the pandemic has started and so its easier for the people to gamble even at the expense of their homes, but i don't know yet in other countries if cockfighting are also operated online. However, despite of the current ban, cockfighting is still visible in the Philippines in different coliseums, as it can be hardly ban totally as it has been here already in the ancient stage. So its either people will love it or avoid it, but it won't be easily ban.

It is the online part of cockfighting that was banned mate while cockfighting held in arenas is now given the go signal to resume as the pandemic restrictions in our country eased.

The main reason why online sabong was banned is due to many people getting addicted to it which affects their financial status that resulted in their families being destroyed. Operators did a very good job of making the platform so easy to use that even in the comfort of your home, you can bet but the downside of it is it destroyed some families of their users.

Though online sabong was banned by the government but you can still bet online through illegal platform just like what they did before it was legalized during the pandemic.

Sometimes, we don't have these addicts to blame nor the providers of these services. I mean, dey are already addicted and only a therapy of some sort could be some means to putting a stop on addiction. Hence, a sudden hold or stop on a practice don't seem to add up or wo t work without an alternative to it being put in place. It might work for those who just go ahead with gambling just for the sake of it, seeing it as a thing for the moment but, when your addicted, it's it's whole different story. When you have the cravings to gamble and you see it for a means to save your life or make a huge income, no ban can stop you at that point. Hence, the companies capable of providing such gambling services within a ban locality seems to make even more money.
An alternative should be provided and that would help to ease the ban!
How do you know that they are already addicted huh? What if they are not and they only became addicted because of this game so therefore it's the fault of the operators or the gambling itself. They are the ones that we will blame but I think there are bettors of this game and still manage to have a normal life, so maybe we can also blame those who get addicted because they don't have a control of their own life but they let the simple game control them.

There are known treatments but there's no guarantee that they will stop permanently (the addicts). Not only sure if what alternative you mean there. Was it games? If it is, then there's many gambling games that are still allowed and can be used an alternative since there's no more cockfighting.

It may be not the fault of the operator but the fact that they open this platform for them to get harm themselves and other then they are counted as liable person if sething happen to their gamblers. Addiction in this kind of activities is so serious and we actually see people's life became miserable from this and that's why there operation needed to stop so that those gamblers will stop using their platform on abusive manner. We may have no guarantee that they will stop but at least government lessen the platform where they can gamble.

Any government should support the desire of households to improve their financial well-being.  At the same time, the government should not allow conflict and chaos due to the addiction of its citizens to gambling.

The government of the country should also take care of the moral character of its citizens.  Violent and bloody sports should not be encouraged.  Here it is necessary to maintain a balance between the interests of different segments of the population.
Those are good points you brought up, and the role of government and the things it should and shouldn't do is (and always has been) a very complex discussion.

However, one point you didn't bring up is cruelty to animals, which many governments have laws against.  If you ask me, cockfighting is animal abuse, though I'm sure there are a lot of members who'd disagree.  They're just chickens, right?  And I'm by no means a PETA activist, but I consider modern chicken farming to be a form of abuse as well (like packing them together with no room to move, pumping steroids in them such that they gain so much weight that they can't move, etc.).

But hey, that's just me.  The government of my country doesn't seem to mind how chickens are farmed, although they regulate it.  They do have laws against cockfighting.  Not always consistent with their actions or their philosophy, are they?

Yes, of course, cockfighting is a very bloody and brutal sport.

Roosters are genetically programmed to fight other roosters to protect their chicken harems.  This feature of roosters is used by the organizers of the fights.

Rooster spurs are a terrible weapon given to them by nature.  The organizers of the fights specially sharpen the spikes or even put metal blades on them, turning the spurs into a terrible murder weapon.  It's very cruel.

This is another reason for the prohibition laws.

You can not encourage in people, such a quality as the enjoyment of cruelty.

....they are losing money while the operators are making a lot of profit on a daily basis.
the biggest operator of E-Sabong in the Philippines are making millions of money in a daily basis, so if we will try to analyze that, that's more than 100 millions pesos of bets going to that platform on a daily basis, and majority of that money are coming from the poor, so we really cannot blame the government of their action to ban it.
I think this is for the best, personally I do not like a government that bans something in an arbitrary manner because this will eventually lead people to do the same but on the black market, however there are activities that indeed deserve to be banned and cockfighting is one of them, it  simply does not sit right with me that two animals are forced to fight just for people to get entertainment out of it, taking into account the many options we have now to entertain ourselves harmlessly I do not see the point of something like this.
