Basically the West would attack any EU member that wishes to normalize relations with Russia. That is what Poland's purpose is and why they are being armed and exactly why they warned Germany against normalization (bringing up WWII, etc.).

Republicans have stated that they will stop aid to Ukraine if they can control the House or both houses. I think those are statements intended to attract voters in their midterm elections, the possibility of them doing so is improbable. Regardless of which party is in power, the national interest must come first, or you will also be deposed if you harm the national interest.
