The logic might be - we must dilute prelims and early prelims with big names, otherwise people would switch their channels and return only for 2-4 fights in main cards, but we need to sell ads Cheesy
Problem is that fighters complained for being put into prelims, and they are highly ranked, one of them had title fights not long ago.
UFC match making is tricky business and you cant make everyone happy, but maybe they had some internal problem with Dana White and that put them down and removed from main card.

From what I saw on the reddit, a lot of comments are like "I hope Pantoja wins" and few are like "That guy from low league that has never defended a title has no chances". I sure understand the origins of "that guy from", but why others hope that Pantoja wins ? Cheesy I went looking his highlights Cheesy Ok, he can knock people out with hands, but all or majority of them were in the ring. Octagon is different. You cant catch opponent in the corner, it is bigger.

Exactly, who this guy Asakura really is? Cheesy If he was really a prodigy, then he would be in UFC long time ago. If he had a clean record, we would know this guy long time ago and wait for his debut, also people would flood Dana with this guy. I open https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kai_Asakura and see 21-4, fought last time year ago, many unknown fighters in his record. And this guy is given a credit of trust to have a debut fight against champion. Especially when there are guys who stand in line for a title fight for years. In addition this guy is 31 already, which, for a flyweight is close to have a career downtrend to start. And now the funny part, this guy was a current Rizin bantamweight champion, only because previous guy vacated it Cheesy I can suppose that this is an attempt to get a peace of Asian market.

They say he's a 'bad ass' in Japan, but I've never seen him fight and I don't think he'd beaten guys at the same level of skill as the guys in the UFC.  Am I saying that Pantoja will surely win 10 out of 10?  No...  But if I were to bet money on the fight, I'd def always bet Pantoja at the current line at almost 1.40.

But let's just watch the fight and hope it will be a good one.

I think that Japans fans will get disappointed as the odds show that Asakura is a huge underdog with 3.10. Most of Asakura opponents were strikers, and now he faces a champ who is blackbelt in bjj and half of his wins are by submission. Even the fight is in Vegas (I guess everyone know how judges in Japan like to give victory to home fighters). Everything is against Asakura. If he manages to pull an upset, that will be really shocking.

I really wish Shavkat would teach Garry manners and avenge Magny's loss.

UFC 310 main event - it is indeed Kai Asakura's UFC debut and he's getting a title shot straight away. I think it's justified, as Asakura was Rizin's bantamweight champion until he vacated the belt in June 2024. I think the other reason behind the UFC giving him a shot is that they want to attract more fans from Japan, who are always very supportive of their fellow countrymen performing well in martial arts. Plus, the flyweight is the least popular among all weight classes, so there's no harm in propping it up by acquiring new fighters and making it more interesting. I think it has the potential as fights there are usually pretty entertaining and fast-paced. It's just the fighters in that division are less known to the public (and the UFC can be blamed for this to some degree).

^  Not just that...  Who is this guy Asakura..?  Cheesy  And remember, Pantoja vs Asakura was supposed to be the co main event for Muhammad vs Rakhmonov.  That would've been Rakhmonov's break out event and pretty sure he would've own Muhammad's ass in the cage and become the champ.

But I don't mind him and Garry go at it either.

Here's a vid with all of Rakhmonov's matches.

Upcoming UFC event is looking very interesting but I it is funny that I am not that interested in watching main event Pantoja vs Asakura.
Another strange thing I saw is that UFC added Aljamain Sterling vs Movsar Evloev fight into prelims, not as a main card fight  Shocked
I dont understand what is the logic behind this decision, I am expecting this to be one of the best fights in this whole card.

The reason why little people are interested in watching Pantoja vs Asakura, but rather would watch Rakhmonov vs Garry because of the weight division. Personally I find it less exciting to watch little and light guys fight. All those 55-60kg guys are like schoolkids today. I prefer to watch when huge guy beats other huge guy. Every time I see those huge boxers, mma guys, they have a special dangerous aura around them. But all those skin and bones... Dangerous, but their look does not scare me Cheesy

^  I wouldn't mind having the co main and the main event switch places.  We all know it's the better match up in terms of skill.  And yeah, I already said the same about the Sterling vs Evloev match up.  But it is what it is.

As for the Japanese guy getting a title shot..  Kinda surprised but 125 roster is so shallow, so I guess it's kinda expected that the UFC will need to do sht like this.  The question is...  How will the new guy look in the cage?  We already know Pantoja is a beast...

UFC 310 is when co-main event and main event matchups must switch places Cheesy And Evloev vs Sterling should be in main event. I even feel a little bit pity for Sterling. He was on a serious of wins, 4 title defences, only one loss and now he is in the middle of prelims.

Btw, anyone is surprised that Pantoja is fighting a guy who is having a debut fight in UFC ? Cheesy

Despite the fact that I hugely respect Merab, I'd say that he is faking that thing. He says it's all part of brotherhood and so on but that's fake, once he even said that if Dana White would pay them a million dollars, they would think about it, it was recently but I can't find the video. This means that he wants to build a hype and sell this fight well to earn lots of money, it's not because of brotherhood.
I think Mehrab and Sterling do have a pretty good brotherhood. They have been seen spending some time together. But it doesn't seem like their brotherhood is like Khabib and Islam. Mehrab would consider fighting if Uncle Dana paid him a big payday like a million dollars. Mehrab isn't trying to build Hype but if he gets the big money it seems like he would try to build hype for the fight like two best friends ready to fight. But don't know if the fight will end their friendship or they are ready to fight and go home with the money together.

But Sterling told numerous times that he does not want and will never fight his gym buddy Merab. (...)
He said a lot of things, if the money was right, both probably would happily agree. It's not like there's a serious risk of dying in the octagon or anything, they could remain buddies afterward. And they're probably bashing each other heads at the gym anyway.

Did you guys signed for Dana White's 16 days of Giveaways ? Cheesy This is pure exchange of private data for prizes, and chances to win seems to be pretty low, but take a look at the prizes. First three places are amazing. Usually such prizes are for participating in competition, but this time its just a giveaway.

P.S. In case you want to take a part of it, check out accepted country list.
Even fighters regret signing up for Dana White and why the heck would someone sign up for his giveaways? Dana is a money addict, he doesn't give things for nothing, his fighters were sleeping in the GYM, he won't give away a t-shirt if he doesn't get 100x times more benefits back.

The countdown vid just dropped.  Let's see how the guy from Japan matches with Pantoja.  Wink  Rightful favorite is surely Pantoja but words are swirling around that this Japanese guy could crack.  I'm kinda excited even though it could be a total mismatch.

This is Asakura's debut, he'd probably find it new in the cage. Pantoja can't be careless to do his slugging because the Japanese have serious power, I guess we see it as a mismatch because that guy doesn't rank. Dana just ignored all these. Taira would have made sense if he just won his last fight.

If Asakura wins this fight I think UFC will go back to Japan. The crowd in Japan is very welcoming to combat sports, they have Pride before and then this Rizin.

^  Evloev is a pretty good wrestled himself so this will be somewhat a demonstration of Soviet style wrestling vs Western style wrestling.  Well some parts of the match as this is MMA and they might be striking for more than 50% of the fight.

But it's a good match up which deserves to be in the main card just under Shavkat Rakhmonov vs Ian Machado Garry.  But yeah... Excited for that one.

Anyway, isn't there supposed to be a PFL event today or was it yesterday?

Does anyone remember Sterling vs Kattar fight? It was an UD, but I dont remember how Sterling performed. (...)

I watched the highlights of that fight a few days ago. Aljo did very well, he dominated in striking and on the ground:

It seems like the takedowns were the key to success, Kattar was too focused on avoiding them that he couldn't do much, even in the stand-up. As you can see Sterling landed much more strikes/significant strikes.
Kattar also has some solid wrestling background but it wasn't on the same level and he couldn't avoid Aljo's takedowns. Who knows, maybe the Evloev fight will look similar.

^  As far as I can remember, he did decently well.  But we could watch at MMACore, now called Kick Box Score.  Here...  Wink

https://kickboxcore.com/videos/Combat_Night_Pro_-_St._Petersburg_-_Alex_Korpita_Vs_Adrian_Torin/10595745

Evloev is pretty good but for the line given to him at 1.38, could be lower now, is just too much and it's kinda skewing the value towards Sterling side as he is an elite UFC fighter himself.  But we'll see...  It could be close but with Evloev getting the W.

Some good replays to watch involving the fighters at 310.

Does anyone remember Sterling vs Kattar fight? It was an UD, but I dont remember how Sterling performed. That was his first fight in featherweight. Wonder if fighters quickly adopt to a different division, as Evloev is not a guy who is testing newcomers. 18-0 and 8-0 in ufc is not a guy for beating. Evloev won agaist Lopez, who is a master of black belt bjj and master of submissions, so for Sterling it wont be an easy walk.
