Real Madrid made a mistake by hiring Mbappe and spending too much money for a player like him. Real Madrid had a much better option but Real Madrid couldn't even use the penalty kick they had.
However, we can't blame Mbappe for everything and he is just a part of this team regardless of his getting the lowest rating in the game against Liverpool I'm sure he was trying to do his best but it was not enough since Real Madrid still lost the match with a 2-0 result against Liverpool.

Mbappe wasn’t bought but came free although he has a high wage but Madrid is a marketing club and I would say the business part of him coming was weighed more higher than that of him playing better football. Although it wasn’t that much of a necessary signing since Vinicius is also playing through that position. But regardless I don’t still think he is a flop or wouldn’t hit his mark in Real Madrid because they have had many players that came and were even booed by the fans but turned out to be the most loved, example is Benzema and Modric. Modric was voted the worst signing in Europe then and Benzema was booed by the fans both ended up winning the golden ball. Another clear example is Vinicius Jnr who even played as a right wing back under Zidane, today he is the fans favourite.

For me Mbappe needs to reduce the pressure on his back and let the game flow it was actually his eagerness to score in every match that is making him do way too much and this would continue but him knowing this is a phase and it will pass will do him much better

Mbappé arrived at Real Madrid for free. The club did not have to pay too much money in a transfer fee to get him. Under those circumstances, a talented young player like Mbappé would be described as a strategic move on the part of the club, given the great potential he has.

Both Mbappé and Real Madrid are going through a complicated moment, especially in the UCL. His irregular performance has been put into bright relief, but it is one of the demands of a process of adaptation to a club as large as that of the Spanish capital. The success of the club in extracting the maximum performance from Mbappé will be instrumental not only in overcoming the present difficult moment but also in building a foundation for future success.

Real Madrid has a tradition of nurturing young talent until it matures into some of the game's biggest stars. Mbappé, with proper support, is capable of becoming that player and leading Real Madrid's return to glory both in La Liga and in the UCL.The poor result against Liverpool was disappointing, but there is still time to turn things around.

For over the past few season's Manchester City under Guardiola's watch, Manchester City has not faced with the kind of result they're getting in the past two - five games of their games, and it will definitely have a psychological effect on both the manager and the players, and affect their performance the more, especially when the taticts that was working perfectly seem not to be working at all, and witnessing your squad hit back to back draws and defeat as seen now, from one lose to one draw to another lose.
People fail to understand that in life whatever has a beginning also has an end. What we are seeing now is the end of of era. Pep Guardiola has led Manchester City to to highest level and just as the force of gravity, it's time to fall down. Check the history of so many top clubs they got to a height and began to lose their too performance. Mancity fans need to accept that the days of winning trophies every season are over. A team that gave out a three-goal advantage to an average European side is facing a serious problem. Pep should leave the club now the ovation is loud.
You can’t blame the fans for thinking that Manchester City will never have dark days. City have been dominating the league for so long that fans and clubs seem to have lost hope of defeating them but no one can be on the rise forever. Contrary to your opinion, I think fans of rival teams should accept the fact that Manchester City is not dead. They are only going through a rough patch and they will soon make a comeback. If City doesn’t win any trophy this season and next season, it won’t take anything from Pep’s legacy. He remains one of the GOAT to ever do it in the English Premier League.

Mo Salah penalty miss was not a benchmark in this match because Liverpool were leading 1-0, Mbappe miss was a problem because they were hunting for a goal to make the score level again. Liverpool are still unbeaten, Real Madrid finally became the victim of Liverpool's ferocity in a series of perfect results achieved in the UCL.
In my opinion, Mbappe is in a bad moment in his career, he is still struggling to adapt at Real Madrid, and now he just missed a penalty in an important game. Nothing has gone right for Mbappe at Real Madrid so far, he hasn't shone at all, that's my view on Mbappe's performance so far.
Your view of Mbappe is not wrong, but if I look at the Real Madrid team as a whole in the match, it is very clear that Real Madrid were really overwhelmed in facing Liverpool so that the level of ball possession and total shots on goal were not more than Liverpool. In addition, the formation used by Ancelotti in the match also looked unusual so that it was more directed at defense than attack so that it could make the middle area not so optimal for Real Madrid. And as a result of this defeat, Real Madrid is now in a very sacred position so that in the next match Real Madrid must be able to win in order to have the opportunity to qualify for the next round in the Champions League this season.
Real Madrid lost from all sides, I didn't expect them to play that bad and especially for Mbappe in this match it was really bad, he had filled the left wing position in his original position because of Vinicius' absence but Mbappe was unable to show his best performance, not only because he failed to execute the penalty but there was indeed no major contribution to the team from Mbappe, it's been a long time since his arrival he should have been able to adapt but in fact he didn't.

And on the other hand it must also be admitted that Liverpool's performance has been extraordinary this season, they were not favored because of the change of coach which made it possible that they could not make the team better in their first season but Arne Slot has now really proven that he is quite extraordinary in continuing Klopp's performance and can even make the Liverpool team even better.

If Mbappe had been able to score from the penalty spot, the match would have been tied. This penalty was very important for Real Madrid. After a goalless draw in the first half, Real Madrid fell behind 1-0 at the beginning of the second half. If Mbappe had been able to score this goal, Real Madrid might have been able to earn 1 point from the match.

If Mbappe had scored that penalty in yesterday's game, it might have been a different story today. It's possible that Real Madrid players would have put in more effort, as that goal could have brought them happiness and boosted their strength. They might have started aiming for a win. However, since Mbappe missed the penalty, I believe it partly affected the players' morale.

We know Real Madrid well they have the ability to equalize whenever they are losing to an opponent. They especially try to win games in the Champions League competition, as they have proven time and again. Yesterday's match might not have led to a win for them, but it's possible it could have ended in a draw if Mbappe had scored the penalty.

Yes you can never tell for sure, but I think a goal from Mbappe would have shifted the momentum at least a bit or it would have changed the game because Real Madrid wouldn't have to open up anymore and play for the win. They I think would have been ok with the draw and then they would have been the ones who could patiently wait for one attack and score a goal. But since they were behind, it was impossible for them to stay calm and patiently defend. There have been plenty of games where one goal changed it all. Should I provide an example? Manchester City vs Feyenoord Rotterdam Tongue

In your example, you don't need to go far, just remember Real and their games, especially in the context of the Champions League, for example last year against Manchester City, when they only needed to score one goal for the opponent to fall apart, get confused and start conceding more goals. It could have worked, but I think not with Liverpool.....

As we agree that Arne Slot brought Liverpool better than Klopp.

The statistics for only 1x conceded and the rest they never lost by continuing to win matches, meaning they will be closer to winning the trophy even though what I say is too early.

I wasn't sure Arne Slot would make it this far, they might have struggled a bit with Liverpool but they didn't, they found the right chemistry and the players seem happy to be under Arne Slot's tutelage.

Do you know from whom Arne Sloth took over? Do you know that almost any of the players currently playing for Liverpool have been trained by Klopp and they turned them into what they are today? Your post makes no sense, Klopp made a monster out of Liverpool and finished seasons in far above 90 points range. Now let us give Arne Slot some months and see where they stand then. Klopp won it all with Liverpool and was the strongest competitor Manchester City ever had even when Manchester City were at their best. I think you are drawing some very early conclusions here...

I can't speak for all Real Madrid fans, but I like everything. In the sense that now there are (and were before) losses that can be corrected. The gap with Barcelona has been almost eliminated, the situation in the Champions League is acceptable - the main thing is to get into the top 24. The fate of the title will be decided in the playoffs and not in trashy games of the group stage.
As for City, I am also happy for them because they are doing badly in the Premier League. I hope Liverpool did not waste all their energy today and knock them out on Sunday. If not, then today's victory was Pyrrhic.
In the real sense, Real Madrid is not performing so badly this season but the problem I am seeing is the problem of expectation. Since kylian mbappé joined Real Madrid this season, many people had expected that Real Madrid should be scoring an average goal of 3 to 5 every match because mbappé can score and as well as vinicius junior can score. It is when these expectations were not met that people began to say that Real Madrid is doing terribly bad.

Talking about Liverpool, their win was not a coincidence and I did not think that they have exhausted all their energies. Manchester City still stand the risk of losing the weekend match against Liverpool

City, having missed out on a win after leading 3-0, received another psychological blow and of course I hope this will affect the game with Liverpool. But I still think that Slot made a mistake by putting the optimal lineup against Real and playing at full strength - this is just an image victory, dealing with City is much more important now.
As for Mbappe, I hope he has nerves of steel, another unsuccessful match + a missed penalty and endless criticism (due to inflated expectations) can drive anyone into depression.

It was surprising to see both teams not performing as well as usual, Manchester City only managed a draw against Feyenoord at home & Real Madrid lost to Liverpool. Due to the results in round 5, both teams are only ranked 17th (Manchester City) & 24th (Real Madrid). Luckily, they are still in the play-off qualification zone, unlike PSG who are already out of the zone. I think this season is a crazy season for some of the big teams.

Manchester City and Real Madrid were in excellent form last season, defeating many clubs in all tournaments, but this season has been disastrous for them. But I am sure it is because of the guys that are injured that their performance was awful this season, but they can still pick up form if they take advantage of the windows. If they sign new players for the club, they will be able to pick up and win league matches. Manchester City and Real Madrid will still qualify for the next stage since I do not believe they will lose their three matches in the UCL. They will do whatever to win their next matches. Real Madrid have lost back to back in the Champions league and that is a poor performance against Ancelotti and the players. Manchester City have scored three goals and make Feyenoord do them come back in the game, and end in a draw match. This season as be seriously tough for the big club in the world Liverpool as become best this season In all competitions let see if they will achieve the ucl and the league title this season, because currently everyone believes that Liverpool are the favorites of winning the ucl and probably the premier league title.
It is hard to imagine that teams like Real Madrid and Manchester City have to go through the play-off round to reach the round of 16, but that is the reality today. Both teams are strong candidates to win the trophy for many people, but unexpectedly, their performance has decreased drastically due to a storm of injuries to several key players. Manchester City is slightly luckier than Real Madrid because they have collected 2 more points, after winning 2, drawing 2, and losing 1.

Real Madrid, who currently occupy the last place in the play-off round, should be vigilant, Ancelotti must immediately find a solution to save their chances in the next three matches. Atalanta, RB Salzburg and Brest are easy opponents, I think these three matches will give Real Madrid a place in the round of 16. Meanwhile, Manchester City will face more difficult opponents, Juventus, PSG and Club Brugge. The additional two matches in the play-off round will make the players even more tired.

Arne Slot is now a coach we really need to noticed the effort his putting in this Liverpool team that made the team exceptional this season, they have been doing great since the beginning of the season in all competition, and they defeated Real Madrid of all people today in the Champions League; this is an interesting game that was well played and Liverpool were very lucky to go with the three points because they were the better side tonight.
They are not only lucky, but Arne Slot's strategy to put three attackers on the line makes Real Madrid overwhelmed from the beginning. Real Madrid is incapable of blocking it and we can see how ht 1st goal happened, their defender not focusing Liverpool midfielder's movement but focused on guarding 3 attackers. Their schemes also worked very effectively when Gakpo came in. They were shaking up Madrid's defense until there was a missed penalty and a second goal by Gakpo.

I think this season will be a tough season for Real Madrid because they are faced with many injured players and improved opponent's performance like Liverpool. Real Madrid will difficult to defend their Champions League title for this session.
I identified 3 problems with Mbappe and if these problems are not solves, Mbappe and Real Madrid will continue to struggle.
  • There is much expectation of Mbappe in Real Madrid. So, whenever that expectations is not met, he will be considered a flop even if he played like every other players.
  • Mbappé should remove the mindset of dominating and being the number 1 man in Real Madrid.
  • He should stop being nervous and anxious. Too tensed to deliver. That guy has never enjoyed football since he arrived Real Madrid.

Once again Real Madrid lost.

Incredible what its happening this year with Mancehster City and Real Madrid, both finalist at risk to not pass the 1st stage of the new cup.
But not only that they are risking to be out even from the playoff, crazy times.

Ancellotti will be sacked soon or later while Guardiola just renowned his contract, what is happening.

Some of the big teams might not be able to make it to the round of 16 this season due to their performance in the season. Most especially for Manchester City, which we have all seen that without Rodri, they are not able to perform anything tangible, which makes us confirm that Rodri is the backbone of the team. I don’t say they will not be able to score goals, no, but their performance will not be that good this season again; they will just have to accept that faith.

Talking of Real Madrid, I still have hope for them. Because they still have 3 more games to play, if they are able to win all 3, they will get a total of 15 points, but that is under a probability for them to win all 3. Even though I have higher hope on that, I am not sure they will win all 3 games, but I am very sure that they will be able to win at least 2 out of the 3 games for them to see if they will be included in the round of 16.

Here is how top 8 looks like after 5 games played.

snip-
Liverpool are just dominating the Champions League.  Grin  They played one of the most difficult fixtures yesterday and won that one also. They are playing so smoothly. Goal statistics are pretty good and they have conceded only 1 goal.

Arne Slot has made an incredible start. Xabi Alonso's work last season comes to my mind.  Tongue  I think they have a pretty good chance to go for the PL and CL titles both at the same time. It would be a challenging one but not impossible to do.
As we agree that Arne Slot brought Liverpool better than Klopp.

I watched a video clip showing before the game in which Mbappe was trying to talk to Bellingham but neither he nor Rüdiger talked to him. They acted like he was a ghost. I wonder whether there is something broken in their relationship.

In this game, Real Madrid couldn't play the way they wanted. If Vinicius Junior wasn't injured then we could have watched them more effective in the attacking line. It was an easy win for Liverpool.

You would have attached a link to this video clip you referring to. In view of that, am skeptical how that could be true for teammates that fighting on a uniform interest a cordial relationship among them should be there strength. Perhaps it's just the way you look at it.

Assuming Vini Jnr was present in that game it would have been a different ball game for Liverpool as the duo of Vinicius and Mbappe would have been a bigger force for Liverpool to contain than just Mbappe. Hopefully in the second leg we will see an entirely different Madrid with Vini Jnr available by then.

Of course I can attach the video here, I forgot about it sorry. Here you go: https://x.com/UtdFaithfuls/status/1862039412105748957

Now we are going to have a one-week break before Round 6 games. Liverpool are really doing amazing things. 5 wins out of 5 games so far... There were some challenging opponents on paper as well but it didn't matter.

Inter are the only team that haven't conceded a goal yet. This strong defense has carried them to the 2nd position. But it would be better if they start scoring more goals in the long run. Who knows maybe they might play big once again here.  Smiley

Yeah that's really sucks !
Real Madrid are have on the track of loses. Always they came up with a lots of hope and  passion but in the end they return with bad feeling and hopelessness. And the reason behind this is the lack of crucial players. Every day one or two players get injured. Which gives real madrid a lot of weakness in the match. Killian Mbappe is also not contributing to the team the way a star player does. Vinicus junior and Rodrigo are absent due to injuries due to which Real Madrid cannot perform in a better way. These are some of the reasons why real madrid is taking bad breath. .

Manchester City seems to have the same issue. Rodri's absence has given a lot of lackness in the team. Pep has lost 5 consecutive matches. So both team are in very serious trouble, and if both teams don't put their run on the right track then both managers have a chance to be sacked off.

Underestimate- nothing
November 28, 2024, 03:04:40 PM
The Champions League has thrown up some big surprises this season, are Real Madrid and Man City out of form this time around or is it just a tougher competition this time round?
There are 3 more games left but I would think that Real Madrid will struggle to qualify directly unless they make the playoffs, and the qualifiers won't be easy either as some other big teams will be here.

Its actually a very big surprise because at the same time it's now as if it was planned both of them are not in form and it as disfigured the both of them but I actually love the situation that Manchester City are finding their self because it is deserving they have been full of there self and pep is good but he as pride and know he will know the value of not knowing it all, am sure pep would have learn from what is happening this season and the poor performance is affecting them mentally and reflecting physically.

And if real Madrid is unable to qualify then their going to be a huge problem, because they have been reduced to nothing but they have improved, and with the way they are playing they might have a chance of qualifying since that is the most important because if they qualify they might be gingered to even make it to the finals because we should know Madrid by now you can not just under estimate them, that is what Dortmund did last season and with the experience that Madrid have they were able to win. And if Madrid and Manchester City don't qualify whobdo we think is going to win the Champions League this season.

It is surprising that both teams that are considered as the favorites to win this season have performed less than optimally so far. Man City, who are usually a tough team for all opponents, were suddenly held to a draw by a team that is of lower quality than them and Real Madrid lost again in the Champions League, not even being able to score a single goal. This is really surprising.

Looking at the current situation, I think Ancelotti deserves to be fired, because nothing would have changed if he was still at Real Madrid. Indeed, Real Madrid has many injured players but that is also his fault for forcing the players too much. He cannot manage Mbappe, the substitutions are always late, rarely giving opportunities to young players even though there are many quality young players, it is very surprising that this happens to an experienced coach. In this match, players like Brahim, Bellingham, Camavinga, and Mbappe finished the match against Liverpool with injuries. Currently, the players who are recovering are Vini, Rodrygo, Tchouameni, Carvajal, Militão, and Alaba.

Seeing the injured players is very difficult for Real Madrid to be able to enter the play off because Ancelotti can not use young players he can only be strong when there are star players.

Real Madrid team wasted the most opportunities in this match, which made Real Madrid fans angry with Real Madrid. Because all the gamblers who bet on Real Madrid team lost incredibly in this match and lost their bets. I think Real Madrid fans will never forgive because Real Madrid team players missed penalties, although Real Madrid team only attacked 8 times in the whole match and the opposing team Liverpool attacked 17 times.
This season Real Madrid has face many challenges in the champion league their performances this season loom very unserious compared to their last season, they performed very admirable, the way their performances is moving this se their coach needs to do something about them to make their team improve.

Obviously, Real Madrid performance is back; they are not showing any improvement that will convince us that they will get to the top this season. Last season Real Madrid was strong, but unfortunately this season they are not doing well. As you said, Ancelloti needs to do something before it's too late for them because currently, not only in the Champions League but even in the La Liga competition, Real Madrid is finding it difficult to meet up with the goals; they are not topping the spot in both La Liga and Champions, and that’s something strange from a team we're all known for doing well.

Honestly the gap between Real Madrid and the Liverpool is a very huge gap which it will very difficult for them to catch them up the fro the top of the standing, because they’ve lose severally of their matches that will bust their points; but as it stands now I don’t think they can able to meet up this season in this champion league.

There are many teams that are doing better than Real Madrid, and they are still finding it difficult to catch up with Liverpool. Real Madrid only have 6 points while Liverpool are leading with 15 points. You can see that there is a very big difference, so definitely Real Madrid will not catch up with this performance there showing right now.

Maybe the luck is not on there side this time around and they have to struggle really hard if they really want to make it to the next round of the competition. Real Madrid and Manchester City are two big teams everyone have seen to be contenders for the champions league title but after playing five matches out of eight matches to be played, and seeing the position they fall in the standings, it is very difficult for them to even make it to the next round if nothing positive is done in the remaining matches. They are big teams, they should know their elimination from this round won’t make any sense and will bring their records on this league down. Let’s see what they do in the three matches left for this round to be over.

I understand Peps frustration, after all he has managed this team for hundreds of games, and never had this kind of trouble before, and yet when you look at it, it makes sixth game where you couldn't win a game, and for 5 of them they had a losing streak. So, we need to understand that he isn't doing anything different, he isn't really changing much, he is doing exactly what he used to do and got success, but this time around he isn't getting the same success as he used to get.

I personally believe he couldn't really figure out the reason, which makes sense because he should be getting the wins that he should normally get, so not getting them makes no sense to anyone at all. I see that he has a few injured players, but aside from Rodri, none of them are that much of a big deal, and yet he is still losing a lot of blood right now, and that is a bad situation to be in. I believe the greatest return could be just focusing on how to get better results with whatever players he has left.
I kind of reason that these clubs must have gone back and study Guardiola's tactics and now are using what they've must have learned to play against Guardiola. However the January transfer window is just around the corner where Guardiola would have the chance to get the players he want and further boost his squad the more,  or either restrategize a bit since that for about six last games played so far, the usual tactical system is no longer yielding the desired result.

Here is how top 8 looks like after 5 games played.
