BTC price is now down to $8391, I have no idea why.

We'll just have to see how things shake out in the next period. We are still down a little it doesn't seem to have peeked back over the 100 EH mark. If we maintain 7% this go and stay flat for the next 2 that would be a bit of a blessing. I only see that possible because of all the delays in gear getting to market. Even at this level there have to be a lot of people teetering on shutting down older gear, but I feel they'll hang on a bit hoping the price recovers above 10k.

Glad I have 28TH waiting in the wings. I should be up to 190TH in about a week. It's cold enough to move the small guys inside nice of winter to start rolling in early to help me keep ahead of the Diff for a bit.

Actually saw it up 9.5% during this Epoch. At least it's backed off the double digits...for now.

well  a s17 pro  does 53th at 2225 watts (I own one)  so 2.225 x 24 = 53.4 kwatts a day

or 54 kwatts a day

at 1 cent    54 cents power cost
at 2 cent   1.08
at 3 cent   1.62
at 4 cent   2.16
at 5 cent   2.70
at 6 cent   3.24
at 7 cent   3.78
at 8 cent   4.32
at 9 cent   4.86
at 10 cent 5.40

1 th earns about 0.00002050  x 53 =  0.0010865 x 8500 = 9.23 usd a day

soon to drop by 7% or $8.58 a day

8.58 - 5.40 = 3.18 a day  for a 10 cent person
8.58 - 4.86 = 3.72 a day  for a  9 cent person
8.58 - 4.32 = 4.26 a day  for a  8 cent person
8.58 - 3.78 = 4.80 a day  for a  7 cent person
8.58 - 3.24 = 5.34 a day  for a  6 cent person
8.58 - 2.70 = 5.88 a day  for a  5 cent person
8.58 - 2.16 = 6.42 a day  for a 4 cent  person

so the s17 pro has a goodly margin for right now.  but it is the most efficient gear around and is really fucking pricey.

Hey guys,

After todays price and hashrate drop, what are the profit margins for new miners?

hashrate drop is done and over with  we are soon to be at 12.8 or 12.9 diff on thursday.

by new miner  do you mean  newer gear?  or do you mean a new person jumping into this?

Doubtful, we're already back up over 95ET so it was  just a temporary blip. It was a 33ET drop, which would be around 2.3 million S9s, or 625,000 S17s. Thats in the neighborhood of 3200 MW of S9s, or 1400 MW of S17s. Are there any single mines that big? Maybe a whole region in China had a power outage?

The article seems to be aimed at "illegal" mining operations, which is probably a small % of the total hash coming from China.

I purchased 22-26 s9s most with psu’s for 180-240 .  Made good money with them.

I purchased very little overpriced gear. From June to now.

I've learned that in this business, "large miners" does not mean "Professional Miners". This is the 4th cycle I've seen where fast money comes into mining with a vengeance and pays WAY too much for hardware and infrastructure. They act as if the Pie in the Sky earnings are infinitely sustainable. Then when the inevitable correction occurs, as it always does. They go belly up. In the after math of the 17/18 washout, the same thing happened. When people were buying S9's for north of $5,000.00 per unit, I warned that those units would inevitably sell for $300.00. Needless to say I was laughed out of the room. Between Sept 2018 and December 18 I was able to purchase 4PH of S9's for between $369.00 and $225.00 brand new in boxes with brand new PSU's. From large "professional miners" that blew it on purchase costs and floor costs. I'm seeing the same thing occurring again. Rising diff and falling BTC price will once again wash these entities from the game board. Bitmain's pre-ordered out to December and people are still piling in. I'm keeping all powder dry because I am almost certain that...yes...within 4-8 months I will be buying S17's for $500.00, Stateside with no tariffs, brand new. Commence the laughter.

Yeah a crazy couple days to be only checking in. Not going to lie I'm a little pumped to see forces being applied to ideally stifle the hashrate increase. What can I say I want my ~150 TH to pull in as much BTC as possible in the next few months. It was beginning to look extremely bleak.
If I'm not mistaken isn't the rainy season wrapping up, and guessing again I imagine that would account for a diminishing amount of gear coming up. There is no doubt it will continue to rise at some rate - machines are 2-4 times as powerful. We just don't need year round support for all the S9's in only a small portion of the world pumping away. Although I'm sure anyone pulling in big cash on those would disagree.
I remember last year sometime a similar event was going on, seems to just be the ebb and flow.

Yup, heading back up just as fast as it fell... over 82EH now. And price dropping. If diff goes to 12.5T and price is $9500, break even for S9s is around 7.7 cents/kWh.

Hopefully it won't spike all the way back up over 100EH.

edit: well, 3 hours later and we're closer to $8500 so break even for S9 at 12.5T is now 6.9 cents/kWh

Pretty good drop off in nethash .... lowest nethash in a month.  Maybe some S9s exiting? Wonder if there will be more of a drop going into October as miners don't renew month-to-month hosting contracts for their S9s.
