It is unlikely that we will be able to call this a real gambling, because here the client does not risk anything. And the concept of gambling includes the risk of losing or winning money. Gambling without money is rather designed to shake the psyche and interest of users of the gambling platform. There is a same phenomenon in forex when a trading platform is provided on a demo account.

We can't call this gambling since there's no money or valuable assets been risked. You don't only gamble when you stake money, there are so many others valuable assets that can be us in place of money for example, your house or other valuable properties you own.

For your example, this is more of an advertisment, they're looking for customers to use their services therefore giving our free promotion for users to participate in and win free rewards. The more the competition get popular, more participants might decide to use their products.

This type of promotion also encourages people to bet money for the real games as they'll they always have that too just Incase they get customers that are feeling lucky and wants to try betting with real money instead of playing for free that reduce their chances of winning.

If anything that is of value to you is put at stake, it could be money, a belonging, your dignity, your time, or anything you can think of, it will still be considered gambling because you are gambling that thing with your prediction that might be wrong and you lose that thing if that happens.

In your case, you guys used to bet your time since the one who lost used to polish the shoes of the other which would be investing your time into it. Similarly, if there is anything at stake, you will have to give that thing away if you lose the bet.

Truly they offer promotional opportunities and give gamblers bonuses in return, but still yet, one has to read and unde the conditions attached to those rewards received because most of them can only be used to gamble back to the casino and not to withdraw the money just like that after receiving the bonus.

In reply to the comment above yours, to me, predicting without money is still gambling, gambling is gambling, money is just an instrument that could be used to make more interesting in some cases, I've watched friends bet over the outcome of a football Match without putting money down, a simple choosing who would win a match and another person taking the opposition can be equated as betting, in the old days, men made bets/gamble without money.

I was already feeling ashamed of myself, since they the previous person quoted me wrongly. Well I don't have to argue but within myself I understand is a pure gambling despite no funds included.
